I don't know wheter to be angy at the last post or laugh out loud. We have a Da Ali G in da CBR hizzouse. Heh.
Anyway, Gotham Central is great. It's like they took one of my favorite cop shows, Homicide, and set it in Gotham. Complete awesomeness.

Brilliant comic.
I fear for its future.
That about covers my thoughts on the book.
Edit: Well, OK, maybe one more thought. To me, this will always be Ed Brubaker's book, but Rucka's done a surprisingly nice job with it. (His non-superhero stuff is sooo much better than his superhero stuff. Read QUEEN & COUNTRY, everyone!)
Having said that, I wish Rucka would remember that Renee Montoya isn't the only cop the GCPD has. GOTHAM CENTRAL is Montoya-centric enough as it is; if the series continues after Brubaker leaves, it may very well become THE ADVENTURES OF RENEE MONTOYA.

Awesome series. Nuff said.... Ok I'll say more. Brubaker and Rucka together made this one of the best series. It's too bad that Brubaker went exclusive to Marvel, but I'm confident that Rucka has plenty of stories that he can tell, with Montoya and Allen, or with the other MCU detectives. It hasn't sucked too bad since Bru left. Hopefully they will try some different art styles since Lark has left too, and the new artist, while similar, isn't as good.

Gotham Central is a great comic. I hope it continues. :)
I tried it with the Half a Life, story and was so disinchanted that I threw all the issues in the trash, and stopped collecting it after that.

That was the Two-Face story, right? That wasn't exactly the book's best moment, IMO.

You mean the Eisner Award-winning, Best Serialized Story of 2004, "Half a Life"? I'm always glad to hear that I'm not alone in disliking that arc.
But it's been largely good since then. The Joker arc was excellent, as was the Bullock/Mad Hatter arc. Those have been the high points of the series for me.
A good chunk of the current arc is devoted to following up on "Half a Life"s effects on Montoya's personal life, so now's probably not a good time to jump back on.

I don't mind Renee being gay, but a bit of forethought in building that into the character would've been nice.
Oddly, that part of the current arc is the most interesting, even if Batman turning up is mildly pointless.

I read on some future solicits that Brubaker will be teaming up with Rucka on an upcoming arc of GC. Also, a new artist will come on board. Things are looking good for GC as long as Rucka can keep from turning the title into a lesbian soap opera starring Det. Montoya.

I don't mind that every so often, but he needs to start using other characters, especially if he can't bank on Ed doing it for him now.
EDIT: Is it that aspect of Rucka's writing or just his overuse of it that bugs people?

I guess it just bugs me that there is such a big cast on GC, and the only person that Rucka wants to write is Montoya.

If you look at it in isolation, the story is interesting, but I agree that he could be more diverse. Perhaps a Renee Montoya mini will let him get it out... :o

I hate to be the voice of doom in this thread (especially in my first post here) but in talking to Rucka at Wizard World LA he made it pretty clear he doesn't think the series will be around much longer. He said that when he came on the book it was Brubaker, Lark and himself and with both of them gone he just doesn't want to keep going with it. He did say the book will be around for the arc that Brubaker and him wrote before Ed left but after that it'll be pretty much wrapped up.
He also told me not to worry because he is in talks with DC about doing another book with the same sort of tone and feel. Whatever that means is anyone's guess. At first I thought he may have been talking about a Metropolis P.D. book but I've already heard him shoot that rumor down.
Sorry, you may continue discussing the book now. :D

Not much else to say after that eh? Maybe they will find another quality writer to pick up the book. I guess we will have to see later. I'm sticking in there.

Scarily, he might MEAN a Montoya starring book...

He did mention wanting to use some of the characters from GC. Frankly my favorite arcs of GC have been the ones Brubaker does rather than Rucka. Although that post-War Games issue Rucka wrote dealing with the fallout of the Batman/GC relationship rocked.

I doubt it. Once Rucka leaves, I think they'll cancel it. It has been critically acclaimed, but sales have been highly borderline to say the least.

Gotham Central #30 was pretty good. Not just for the relatively expected way the main plot ended, but for the nice little subplot with Renee's father showing up at her apartement while her partner is home alone.
