Anyone else live in the LA/OC area of California? Recently one of the local classic rock stations, Arrow 93.1 fm, changed formats to what could be described as a 24/7 jukebox or "Muzak with attitude" they basically just play random music (the first three songs when they changed formats, was like "Whip It" from Devo, a classic rock tune I don't remember, and "Dance now" from C&C music factory). No requests, no DJ's. Nada. Just music of various types and commercials. That's it.
So what's everyone's opinion's on such a format?

Depends on how random the music is. I'd love a station where you could hear, say, Metallica, John Mayer, and Black Eyed Peas all in one set. As far as no DJ's go, I love it! More often than not, it's been my experience that DJs add little more than bad jokes and half-witted social commentary the listening experience, both of which I can do without.

Yeah.
I've often said (Ok, like twice) that when I'm Grand High Dictator of the Universe each radio station will be required to play two completely random songs each hour.
I wanna here, say, some Ornette Coleman in a block with Sting, Phil Collins, and Enya. I wanna hear Napalm Death on the Christian Music Channel. I wanna hear Mozart's "A Little Night Music" the first part of Dvorak's "From the New World" symphony.. And then Tiny Tim's "Tiptoe through the Tulips."

Not me.
However..
I want to hear knowledgeable, entertaining DJs play music they like. On a focus group based Clear Channel crap station I'd just as soon get rid of the poor DJs. What a poor, sad, bunch they are.
When I was in Michigan last time, about five years or so ago, there was an all request station. Which was, therefore, pretty random and kind of interesting... At least I listened to it more than any radio station but the college and public stations.
(On the other hand there was this one DJ who would. not. shut. up. He's talk for two or three minutes between each song. Drove me nuts. So in *that* case, the station would've been greatly improved by getting rid of the DJs altogether, or at least firing that guy.)

A radio station that plays more than one kind of music?
What a concept.

I live in LA but don't usually listen to 93.1. I like 95.5 better for classic rock. But I'm going to check it out for sure.

We have JACK here in KC. It's been around about a month or two. At first it was refreshing and nice, but I have gotten sick and tired of the station promos about how they don't take requests and the like. Sure some of the songs are nice to hear, but JACK really must not have too deep of a album archive, since they seem to play alot of the same songs every four hours or so.
I mean, if you are going to go this route, shouldn't you really play music that doesn't see the light of day? I was kind of hoping for alot experimental music mixed with some oldies and some progressive rock. If you aren't going to play a "play list" then go for the gusto!
