An Evening With Grant Morrison
Curious about the secrets of the Universe? Come ask. He'll explain.

LOS ANGELES – Grant Morrison, the always original and sometimes controversial writer, will spend April Fool's Eve in intimate conversation with cultural critic Jay Babcock.

The event takes place March 31, 2005 at Meltdown Comics & Collectibles, 7522 Sunset Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90046. It begins at 8 p.m. sharp, and is free and open to the public.

For over 25 years Morrison has unleashed his unique vision on comics, transforming staid mainstream icons as well as creating truly original work. The diversity of his output ranges from groundbreaking runs on Doom Patrol and the New X-Men, to his instant classic creations of The Invisibles and The Filth. Many of his graphic novels and collections have become international bestsellers. In addition to comics, Morrison has written acclaimed plays for theater, fiction in high profile anthologies, and articles on everything from architecture to travel. He is also a practicing Chaos magician, musician and DJ.

Jay Babcock is a respected critic and editor of Arthur Magazine, one of the most vital outlets of investigative journalism and cultural exploration to emerge out of Los Angeles in years.

This is the only time I've ever wished I lived in L.A.

I'm there without a doubt.

Meltdown is already my favorite comic shop. Now here's a reason to like it even more.

Yeah Punchy, I shop there more than any other shop. I wonder if Ive seen you in there and didnt know it? I havent been in as much since they opened "Baby Melt" a few blocks from where I work in Glendale.

This is a very cool announcement. Im gonna try to make it, but it depends on how early I can get off work that day. With my luck, that will be a late work night.

Grant Morrison. Very cool. There was a great interview with him (I think it was in Arthur Magazine...a friend loaned it to me) where he talked about his theories on magic. He once saw a lion-headed demon. Nice!

I'll go if I can find someone to cover my shift but how crowded do you think it'll be?

Probably not. I don't go there weekly since I live over the hill in the Valley. Besides I don't think they offer pull lists or discounts. I go there once a month or so to check out all of the indies.

I imagine it will be pretty crowded.

Anyone know if there's a list of his comic book work? Dunno if I have any of his stuff or not.

You should be abel to find a list online easily enough.

He did the first run on JLA and the Batman GN Arkham Asylum. Also wrote New X-Men. That's some of his mainstream stuff. He also has written Animal Man, the Invisibles, the Filth, SeaGuy, and his new series Seven Soldiers.
