While in Ottawa I dropped about $42.00 on a Japanese import since the Pop Group's Y is only available that way, but I went along with it anyways since their music is so frickin' good. In the same shop I came across Husker Du's Zen Arcade which is pretty much one of the Holy Grails of my music collection as the Huskers (alongside the Velvet Underground, Richard Hell, Television, MC5, Buzzcocks, the Damned, the Jam, the Dictators, Mott the Hoople, the Replacements, the Clash, New York Dolls, and the Stooges) were responsible for turning me from just a neophyte music fan to the music nut that I am today. Couldn't find this or New Day Rising anywhere in Saskatoon. (They had New Day Rising there, though I didn't get it because I was already spending enough as it is.)

Where did you shop in Ottawa?
I believe that the store was called Organized Sound and it's on 593 Bank Street (I'm definite on the address). I don't know if they would still have a copy of Y or Zen Arcade there, but they had Husker Du's New Day Rising, The Fall's Live At the Witch Trials, Silver Apples self-titled debut (which is very important as it marks the beginning of predominantly electronic experimental pop music and thus leading off into Can, Kraftwerk, Eno, etc.), Metal Urbain's Anarchy in Paris, etc. so there's some good shopping to be had there.

The Trail of Dead CD has three songs. If it's anything like what they did last time around, the first track will be on the album, and the other two are b-sides (or international bonus tracks). One of the songs is a Genesis cover, so I doubt that's an album track. Anyhow, it was only $3 at Tower, so it was hard to pass up.
It seems there's only one single on the Streets album, which is fine. It's definitely going to take some time to get into it.

Edo-G: My Own Worst Enemy - Nice to discover another tight MC out of Boston, and even better when he's teamed up with Pete Rock producing for all but two tracks on the album.
MF DOOM: MM FOOD - As weird as the title of the album suggests, MF likens just about every kind of subject matter you can think of to . . .food. It's quite inventive, although I wasn't prepared for the five track break in the album where there was no actual rapping. Other than that, quite an interesting hip-hop album. DOOM's style is just sick and his production is great.

To say nothing of the fact that they're all from different record labels. But yeah, there was Madvillain(arguable the best hip-hop album of the year), Viktor Vaughn II: Venomous Villain, Special Herbs, MM Food, not to mention his guest spot on De La Soul's new album. The man's definitely kept busy, and he's actually been around for a good long while. A lot of people have started to take notice. 30+ year-old housewives know about MF DOOM! If they can't find a way to get him on the Fantastic Four soundtrack, it'll be a crying shame! What better cross promotion than a rapper who's built his stage persona off of Dr. Doom?!?

Wee Saturday CD Fun Day! I really shouldn't have spent all this money, but they were all mostly cheap so I couldn't pass them up. And still, I couldn't find most of what I was looking for. Damn stores around here have no Boredoms, Ruins, Fantomas, or the John Zorn albums I was looking for. That Organised Sound place Crocker found said that they had had almost all of the things on my list at some point, but not today. Bastards. They did have a number of other things I could've bought, but that was my first stop of the day and I was managing to restrain myself.
Continuing my Mike Patton weekend, I bought:
Faith No More, Angel Dust
Faith No More, The Real Thing
Tomahawk, Mit Gas
Mr. Bungle, Disco Volante
I finally found The Mekons, The Mekons Rock N' Roll, which made me happy.
When I was in one of the stores, they were playing Shatner's version of Pulp's "Common People." I almost bought his album since I love that cover, but it was a little too pricey for an album I haven't read much about and don't know anything about the quality of the other songs. So I got Pulp's Different Class instead.
Yay! I love spending money. I also got the new Rod Stewart, Shania Twain's greatest hits release, and Neutral Milk Hotel's In The Aeroplane Over The Sea as Christmas presents for people. And now, I am banning myself from spending money until sometime in the new year.

He's Black Sabbath's drummer for those who don't know. The song is just over 3 minutes long and has an anti-war theme. Very Floydesque too. Neat song.

I got it for myself.
Seriously.
I had it when I was like twelve on cassette and I got nostalgic when I saw it on the rack. Admittedly there's a quite a bit of crap on it. There are at least two good original songs from Devo and They Might Be Giants, as well as the Chili Peppers cover of "Higher Ground". What makes the album though is the guilty pleasure of the Power Rangers theme done in 80s hair metal style.

I couldn't find anything about it online. I might have to ask my own local music stores about this. Though Pere Ubu's online store Ubutique (http://ubuprojex.net/ubutique.html#other) claims that the disc is commercially available.
I did get RFTT's recent disc that came out when they re-united (doing some shitty remakes of great Laughner tunes).
Which is probably why Thomas called it a "non-reunion" (unless of course they actually decide to write new material).

Black Market Clash by the Clash, to replace an older copy that had somehow scratched, terminally fucking up the lead-off track "Capitol Radio One." (And I had discovered this AFTER I had dusted it off and given it scratche repair and it went through fine on my discman.) I honestly don't know why Epic came up with that inferior Super Black Market Clash when this was as cohesive as many of the Clash's albums itself.
Also got the first Bob Marley album Soul Rebels, which preceded his major label debut on Island Catch a Fire. It really sounds different from the rest of his work because its so much more stripped down.

Why would you need a Springsteen Greatest Hits? Don't you have every record of his already?
It has three tracks that aren't officially available anywhere else.

To me, greatest hits is another way for saying "newbs only"
To Springsteen's management, it's another way of saying, "The fans already have all this stuff, let's throw a couple of new things on there so they have to buy it anyway."

This came today...
Napalm Death-Fear,Emptiness,Despair
just got back from shopping at a Used & Collectible CD/Vinyl store -- that we always pass, and I took the opportunity to go for a walk to there.
Ended up spending $53, but I picked up (all on Vinyl Baby!):
KISS : 45 - featuring the 4 singles from the KISS solo albums (Import from Mexico, w/ song titles in spanish)
Lush : "For Love" EP -- featuring "For Love", "Starlust", "Outdoor Miner", "Astronaut" (Import from United Kingdom)
L7 : Pretend That We're Dead Limited Edition Picture Disc (# 01828 ). Also features "Sh!tlist", "Lopsided Head" and "Mr Integrity"
and finally (and the one I paid too much for - $19.99)
45 Grave: "Sleep in Safety" - It's way out of print, never released on CD, and I've been looking for it for almost 20 years (came out in 83). At least the vinyl is in great condition (I put back a copy of "Lucifer's Friend" by by the band of the same name, because the sound was so scratchy)
yay. . now I can't wait to get home to my Phonograph

I finally jumped on the bandwagon and finally purchased Green Day's "American Idiot." I'm glad I did, it actually makes a good case for buying CDS and listening to them straight through. It's very rock opera-esque (like the Who's Tommy).

Oh Yeah. Bought the Man Man CD "Man in the Blue Turban with a Face" ... Or something like that...
At the show.
Very bizzare, but we already *knew* that.
I do think that they're more of a live band than a studio band. Still, it's fightin' it out with Kinski for my favorite album of 2004.
(One more good point from the show... The lead drummer/pot banger/duck shaped rattle player picks up a "whiiiir"-sounding noisemaker, uses it, and tosses it behind him, not looking back.
Like, three songs later, the drummer/Blow-Keyboard player/Monkey Noise maker picks up the noise maker off the stage and shakes it, ending the song.
Neat bit of coordination, I thought.

In the last couple of weeks I've made a goal to buy one cd each time we go to Best Buy.
I've gotten Headbanger's ball 2, the soundtrack for Resident Evil Apocolypse, Skindread, Killswitch Engage's 1st cd (in exchange, I let lewis make a copy of it and he made a copy of their newer one for me).
*edit to add*
I didn't really buy it.. but I also got the cd for St Diablo and also Sicks Deep who have been touring around Virginia and a few other places, those guys all rock, and I can't wait to see them again April 1st here in Lynchburg.

Did you get the remastered Super Session with the bonus tracks?
Unfortunately no. There was actually a copy of it at the store where I inadvertantly found East-West but it was gone by the time I was able to get to the store and purchase it. *Proceeds to mutter* Needless to say I was quite unhappy with this development so I settled for used copy from Tramps. I had deliberately put off finishing the essay on the basis of getting this so I could be able to talk a bit about Bloomfield's dabbling in pyschedelic blues guitar.
