Okay, so I haven't read any DC besides Green Arrow and 100 Bullets, but Superman/Batman has looked very inviting.
I skimmed through an issue and they were fighting GA, and I was confused. So what's going on in this title?
A little issue summary of what's happened thus far and who the key characters are would help. Thanks heaps

Loeb has worked quite a lot of DCU guest stars into the series, so it would take a while to name many of them. Just suffice to say that most of the DCU appears in it.
Here are a few arc summaries to get you going...
Public Enemies (Issues #1-#6) Art by Ed McGuinness.
Batman and Superman are framed by president Luthor, involving a Kryptonite asteroid. Appearance by Future Superman, big Luthor fight, and an introduction of a new Toyman.
Stand Alone Issue (Issue #7) Art by Pat Lee.
Deals with Superboy and Robin. Just sort of a filler issue, that ties up a few loose ends of the first arc.
Supergirl From Krypton (Issues #8-#13) Art by Michael Turner.
Deals with what happens and what is discovered after the asteroid falls to earth. Lots of guest appearances here, with the villain being Darkseid. Batman and crew go to Apokalips.
Absolute Power (Issues #14-#18) Art by Carlos Pacheco.
A reality bending tale, where many things happen. Thanks to the Legion Of Super Villains, Superman and Batman travel across different realities, including one in which Ras Al Ghul is the leader of the free world. Something happens to let them reset the flux, and Batman messes it all up. Probably the best arc of them all so far.
Stand Alone Issue (Issue #19) Art by Ian Churchill.
Deals with threads left open by the Supergirl arc. Probably just a set up issue for the Supergirl ongoing that starts this summer. (Yet to be released)
With A Vengance (Issues #20-#25) Art by Ed McGuinness.
Superman and Batman fight an "Ultimates" type superteam, and Loeb promises that all questions raised and all plot threads will be tied up by issue #25's end. Features appearances by Bizarro #1 and Batzarro. (Yet to be released)
Hope this helped!

The softcover trade for the first arc, "Public Enemies" just came out. I'd say it's worth checking out.

Just for clarification purposes, the new toyman was introduced in an earlier issue of one Superman's other mags- can't remember which one though- (Oh yeah, that cleared it RIGHT up.)
