In Robin #136 Batman did say something along the lines that Tim is a lot smarter than him and it is quite possible that Bats and Alfred would be working for him someday. Way to go Timmy!

I only started reading Robin when Willingham started with #121. I was originally in it for the Rick Mays pencils but I decided to hang around during all the art changes and even War Games. I like this title. Pop Mahn’s work was excellent in #136.

Back to my main focus, "Tim Drake is a smarty pants". How can he be smarter than the Dark Knight Detective? What instances have we seen in the past to back this up (I am sort of new to the DC Universe)? I heard that Tim “figured out” Bruce was Batman. Is this the only thing that qualifies that he is smarter than Batman? What else has Master Drake done to prove himself superior to the World’s Greatest Detective? I need to know!

I am not looking to disprove this idea. I like the Tim Drake character a lot. I wish I was more like him. I am also reading the current Teen Titans and the whole “Titans Tomorrow” future Robin was incredible. I also read the whole run of Young Justice but I viewed that series like a cartoon. Not saying that’s a bad thing. Peter David did some pretty hilarious stuff along with Todd Nauck.

Augie,
Please delete this post.
I am embarrassed by its lack of responses.
Thank you.

Tim has long been established as being the more cerebral of the three Robins. Like the Lee & Ditko Spider-Man stories, Dixon usually showed Tim winning by using brains and not brawn. Tim was also the resident computer genius, before Babs's introduction as Oracle, in a time before WWW (ever notice how only genius's knew how to use computers before 1997?).

As far as him being smarter than Bruce, something funny happened there and I think this is more what your question is about. Tim was introduced as being smart and Bruce himself has said that Tim possess greater potential than him. So that became canon. But then after Tim's introduction something happened to Batman. Namely Morrison's JLA run.

Morrison showed Batman as an all-knowing, near-infallible mastermind, and, by extension, the mere notion of someone being smarter became ridiculous. And it wasn't just Morrison, as Morrison's take on Batman was so incredibly popular that it spilled over into the Bat books. So Tim being allowed to outshine Bruce has now become a risky prospect.
