My favorite bar/club is closing this weekend. All this after howyadoin made a sweet as flyer for me to use as a promotional tool.

The owner called me earlier this week and gave me the news.

Damn, no longer will I be able to go behind the bar on the busy nights so as not to bother the bartenders and pour myself a glass of scotch.

No longer will I be able to sit in the corner of the bar drinking well past closing and into the morning sun with the bar staff.

No longer will I my tab get automatically cut in half and then trimmed again, no matter how much I've had to drink.

No longer will I be getting the last minute calls to DJ because the scheduled person was too drunk or he/she flat out didn't show.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do when your favorite watering hole dries up?

Sackcloth and ashes seem appropriate.

That sucks, man.

I think I did.

I find that stuff pretty interesting. It's like another culture. Screw that. It IS another culture. It's nice to be able to lurk about, observing and whatnot, without appearing creepy (hopefully).

And yeah, it's definitely a culture all its own, with its own etiquette and behavioural norms.

Yeah, this place is gonna be one of those places.

Lava Lounge was a place that when you ordered shots for people you didn't go up to the bar with a measly count of 3 or 4. You'd go up to the bar, turn around and start counting the heads of anyone who wanted a shot. Goodness, there were times we'd get upt to 25 - 30 people doing shots of Jagermeister or Tuaca.

And the great part was it just wasn't one or two people who would be ordering the shots & picking up the tab, there was/is a group of at least 15 people who you could count on to "dial it up".

It was the only place in Cincinnati, that could easily have either two guys, two girls, Black couple, White Couple, Asian couple, interracial couple, Goths, Preps or a guy in a bunny suit and a girl dressed like Snow White making out in one of the booths as it would have anything. And everyone would be completely cool with it.

Lava was the kind of place that frequently used to joke with customers, "if you were as drunk as the bouncer, we'd have to throw you out."

Damn place was my second home. I'm gonna miss it.
