Welcome to CBR. We speak English here. You might want to try that some time.

I dig Springsteen, Hendrix, Prince, Ben Harper, AC/DC, old blues/r&b/soul, and a bunch more.

I have four or five more or less equal areas of musical obsession:

Early Jazz and Jazz-Related Pop, 1900-1930
Louis Armstrong, Bessie Smith, Bix Beiderbecke, Duke Ellington and Jelly Roll Morton are the transcendent artists; Al Jolson and Zez Confrey are just as interesting, though.

Rock and Roll, 1948-1958
Elvis, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, Jerry Lee Lewis, Bo Diddley yadda yadda ... but also Wanda Jackson and Roy Brown and Moon Mullican and Professor Longhair and Don & Dewey and the Treniers...

Pop Music, 1961-1970
From "Be My Baby" to "Let It Be," and everything in between. With special emphasis on the British Invasion, female singers, and the multitude of unknown garage psychedelic bands. (You know it's bad when you have a She album.)

Soul Music, 1956-1972
Sam Cooke and Al Green are the bookends. Everything in between is pretty much audio gold, though I prefer Southern, Memphis soul to Northern, Detroit/Philly soul.

Punk/New Wave/Post-Punk/Alternative
From, roughly, Spiral Scratch to Loveless. Again, pretty much everything.

In Stream of Conscience order:

Pearl Jam, the Smashing Pumpkins, the Beatles, Marilyn Manson, Massive Attack, A Perfect Circle, the Dead Kennedy's, Rush, Led Zeppelin, Portishead, Moby, Madonna, Black Sabbath, Air, and others.

my biggest areas of obsession would be:

Singer/Songwriter Genres: Tom Waits, Nick Cave, Leonard Cohen, Paul Simon, Paul McCartney, Van Morrison, etc.

and

Kraut/Prog Rock: Can, Faust, Neu!, Brian Eno, King Crimson, Genesis, Gong, Soft Machine, Amon Duul, Cluster, etc.

as far as newer stuff i'm really into Animal Collective, Joanna Newsom, Deerhoof, Xiu Xiu...anything that manages to push the boundaries and still sound good.

I'm the token Deadhead around here. I also enjoy jazz (Count Basie, Charlie Parker, Manhattan Transfer) and a lot of classic rock, blues & R&B, 50s-70s pop and soul music, really old country music, and Western Swing.

You're not the only one.

In addition to the Dead, some of my faves are The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Robert Johnson, The Black Crowes, John Coltrane, Led Zeppelin, and Queen. You can't really tell from that predominantly classic rock list (which is what I listen to most of the time) but I also enjoy quite a bit of classical music, mostly from 19th century.

There's a lot of folks around here. You don't really have a good sample population yet.

Besides you started the thread asking for our favorites not what we like.

I dig a litte of all types of music. Metal, folk, Salsa, Latin, Symphonic, Punk (my favorite punk bands are NOFX, Avail, old Green Day, Hagfish, and the Descendants ... and the Misfits if you want to count them), and on and on ...

Eclectic is the word. Some classic rock, some classical, some soca & calypso, some jazz, some... other. I'm CBR's steel drum maestro. I have a soft spot for old video game music of the 8-bit and 16-bit eras. My personal favorite composer is Yoko Kanno.

Anything that's interesting, I'll listen to. I pay almost zero attention to current trends in pop music.

I used to like that stuff, then I made the transition to emo and ska then into the stuff I like now.

'Cept for NFG, never really got into 'em.

I think one can still see the pop-rock remnants still there in my playlist, so it's not like I totally hate the stuff.

My absolute favorite band is K'S CHOICE.

After ten years, they split up in 2003, so SARAH BETTENS is who I'm following most so far.... but I really like GERT BETTENS too. I got to meet them several times, and they are so nice and fun.

The rest of the top ten after that is something like...

PLUMB
THE BIG CREAK
SARAH MCLACHLAN
BARENAKED LADIES
DEF LEPPARD
KYLIE MONIGUE
THE DONNAS
GUSTER
REBECCA PIDGEON

I used to listen to punk stuff about eight years ago. When I was in university I was really hard up for boozin' money and sold all of my NOFX, Lagwagon, Sex Pistols, Bad Religion, Progagandi, Pennywise, and No Use For A Name CD's. I don't really regret it either. I had moved on musically, and I haven't yet gotten a urge to hear that stuff again. I did however keep my Clash CD's, those guys are great.
