I was watching Smallville the other day and I noticed how Clark saves everyone all the time and I got to thinking, how would things change if one time, he wasn't able to save Martha & Jonathan Kent, Lex, Chloe or Lana? Would he turn into another Batman and fight crime with vengence? Would he become another Spiderman and use his powers as a responsibility?

Ma and Pa Kent: I think if they were to die, Clark would probably not totally lose it but he would isolate himself from the world. I think he would finally come to killing the person who murdered his parents, then live in guilt. He would also need guidance so I think he would turn to Jor-El and follow him and become Superman to do what Jor-El told him to.

Lex: Clark would feel responsible for Lex's death and not being able to save him but I don't think he would go over the edge. He would probably live like Spiderman and continue to use his powers for good and become Superman to try to save everyone he could and use Lex's death as modivation.

Chloe: Same as Lex except some hidden feelings might come out.

Lana: Again, I think he would go over the edge and kill whoever killed her (kinda like when Alicia died) but instead of going to Jor-El, I think he woudl put on the red krypotnite ring again and leave because of the guilt from murder and not being able to save Lana.

Any thoughts?

If Elseworlds are any indication no matter how horrible his life is, no matter how many people die, no matter how much he's tortured and regardless of when and where his ship crashes down he will always become Superman. Always. Lands in a jungle? Superman. Lands in Britian? Superman. Lands in Russia during the 40s? Superman. Lands in an asteroid belt in the 30th century? Superman. Lands on Apokalypse? Superman. Born on Earth and sent to Krypton? Superman. Lands in Gotham with Johnathan and Martha Kent and is raised/saw the same things as Batman did? Superman.

Oh, and he'll apparently almost always end up with Lois too. ;)

In the Pre-Crisis world, Clark isn't able to save the Kents (or was it just Pa) and the experience humbles him. But he still becomes Superman.

I'd like to see an Elseworlds where he lands on a Planet where everybody but him is a Super hero. Kinda like that one episdoe of Darkwing Duck.

You're probably thinking of the Superman/Batman arc, which also has him being raised by the Legion of Super Villians. And even then he's turned back into Superman. ;)
