I really loved the first one, and am eagerly awaiting the second installment. What's the status of the sequel?

What's the status of the sequel?
The sequel has been announced, though the exact detail of the storyline is still a bit of a mystery. Currently it's in pre-production, but no real work has started as of yet. So far, only Ron Pearlman has been cast as a definite, and there is talk of Johann appearing as an addition to the BPRD team. Meyers is supposed to make a brief cameo but wont be significant character in any way.

GdT to talk about HB2 (http://www.nowplayingmag.com/content/view/59/2/) (see below for excerpt)
"Most everybody is coming back," he says. "Abe Sapien is coming back. Liz, Myers... even Professor Broom is doing a little cameo. We have a moment in the movie where you see Professor Bruttenholm as a younger man reading a story to Hellboy."
"You will get new characters from the B.P.R.D. comics," says del Toro, referring to Hellboy's organization, the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense. "You're going to get Johan, the guy with no body, which is a really great character. And we're going to have a little surprise cameo from one of the villains from the first film."

I read a recent interview with Selma Blair where she confirms that she'll be back in HB2. Anybody heard from Doug Jones? Abe has to be back, I can't imagine him not being there after the introduction in the first movie.

I talked to Perlman's son, he says that they dot have a definate script together (or at least one that they've showed Ron) and that Ron is working on something else now. so i guess they wont be shooting for a while. :(

E! Online chatted with Ron Perlman, who says he thinks they will start shooting Hellboy 2 in the fall. He also commented on a possible trilogy:
You know, you make them one at a time, but I would say that if there are more Hellboys in the future, then I'm very blessed, because he's a guy I could play every day for the rest of my life and never grow tired of.

On March 21st the HELLBOY II entry on the IMDb was updated from 'Announced' to 'Pre-production' - so, who knows what ideas lurk in the heart of a delightful Mexican director?

I'm not sure how you got that out of what Petersen said...
But the next movie is going to be sweet. no matter which story(ies) it's based on, it'll be sweet as hell.

HB2 is not in preproduction yet. GDT is still working on the script and will be turning it in soon...that's all we know!

Thanks for the info Christine - the IMDb is not the most reliable of sites, despite its reputation. Much appreciated!
