Spider-Man 3 villain has been cast!

Long story short, Thomas Haden Church (who was recently in Sideways) is the new villain.

They aren't saying who he'll be playing, but he really could be anyone. He's played intellectuals and he's played morons in the past, plus he has the ability to be a total prick on camera, so this is good news. In my opinion, he could play a mean Eddie Brock.

I really like how they aren't casting big names for the sake of having a big name in the cast. This way, more attention can go to the character.

Stegron may be a fairly tough Spidey villain, but NO.

I agree with cable guy and uncle bob. This cant get rid of GG2 venom lizard and manwolf. I mean there can be more than 1 villian. Thomas Haden Church could play as venom or hobgoblin and have a little twist in there with harry has GG2 but I am hoping that he is venom. With todays technology, they can really make Venom a badass that he is. Heres what i think might happen

John Jameson goes in space and brings back the symbiote(or whatever you know what i mean) along with the medallion that turns him into Man-Wolf. Spidey finds this and starts to kick ass. After awhile spidey hates it.

Meanwhile Brock joins Daily Bugle, prints libel, gets fired and his wife leaves him so he goes to the church All sait ladies or whatever. Spidey is there cause the symbiote doesnt like sound so that symbiote slithers off of spidey and drips onto unsespecting Eddie Brock who gets it. Then Venom appears and spidey must defeat him while Eddie/Venom is getting his revenge.

It really depends on if Franco is returning for a fourth film. I can see them building Harry into becoming the Green Goblin so that they would have a real selling point for the fourth film. I mean we know Kirsten Dunst will not be returning and Sam Rami but I can't imagine the Studio wanting to give up on a Multi-billion dollar franchise.

I think Church could really work as Venom or Sandman but it would have to be someone whose powers change their body structure or else he won't be menacing enough.

I honestly think the list is down to Venom or Sandman. Hobgoblin or Green Goblin harry is redundant within the franchise and that alone will be reason enough for studio execs to kill the idea of it carrying the film. man wolf is too obscure, mysterio and electro arent visually kewl enough.

Mysterio ok maybe , or it would need some huge work . But Electro ??? especially in his current almost-magneto level of late as shown in MK spidey and New avengers ??

With a modified costume and powers of the same level shown in the mentioned comics , he could be a quite decent movie villain .

Also while nobody never think of him , raimi might the road of a "unpopular" villain . Someone like the Shocker .

I don't see how this eliminates The Lizard - unless everyone is dependent on the guy who played Connors in Spidey 2 reprising the role - which he may or may not be a good enough actor to pull off, as opposed to a total maybe 5 minutes of screen time. Dylan Baker is an amazing Actor (see the film Hapiness), they won't let him go.

Ooh, that'd be great. Although I'd always thought Dean Winters (better known as Ryan O'Reilly from Oz) would make a great Electro, and, thanks to Bendis and the Ult Spidey "Hollywood" arc, I've become used to imagining Bruce Campbell as Mysterio. :D

Still, I like THC as an actor, and he could probably pull off either role. Just so long as he isn't Venom, really, I'll be happy (because, dear lord, I hate that character so much).

Church's huge forhead screams out sandman to me. But I don't think sandman can carry out a villians role by himself. In a book sure but a movie? Nah.

Not that it matters what I think sort of out of the loop as it were.

Still he is a good actor and whatever he does has to be better than say ahnald as mr freeze.

My understanding is they plan to use him as the Lizard in the future. At least that's what I recall in a Dylan Baker interview. It'd be nice if they kept Dr. Conners as a supporting character. Of course we all remember what happened with Billy Dee Williams and the Batman movies so this could all change.

I think Church could be a variety of guys. Mysterio, Electro, Sandman, Scorpion heck he'd could be Venom and I wouldn't mind (okay a little but hey). I'm just glad they got a good actor.

You can't deny that the producers of the Spidey films make sure they get respected, talented people to play villains as opposed to "name" superstars...

As for Church, I don't know...his face totally screams ELECTRO to me...

Looking at Church, my first internal reaction is definitely to think he's pegged for Lizard (Dylan Baker is out?), Sandman, or someone else more high profile. But really, if you take in the second movie, could it hint any more that Harry is going to be the main event in the third? I'm only trying to imagine how they can practically and smoothly integrate Church's character into Harry's development, all while considering villains he may resemble. Dr. Hamilton came to mind. Meh. We'll see I guess, but I'm really not hoping for the ultrapolyvillain approach that was big in the downfall of the Batman franchise. This creative team hasn't missed, yet, though, so I trust them. :) (Which is also why I think them doing 'GG3' from the comics could work out well.)

Well Raimi already said he doesnt like movies with two villains (if i'm right ) .

He also said he doesnt like Venom , or rather than he enjoy moe classical foes .

"But Marvel could order him to include Venom anyway" , i already hear some people say :D .
I dont think so , especially after a major marvel movie director such as Singer leaving for the concurrence .
Should they even try to boss Raimi around like that and piss him off , i wouldnt be surprised to see someday Raimi doing lets say "Green lantern" or other dc/wildstorm icons :D .

I think we wont see Venom , unless they convinced him somehow . And even if they managed to do so , i wouldnt expect him in that movie , but a future one , as the last of a serie .

Like you said conceptual designs , doesnt necessarily mean any or both will be picked . Maybe raimi is "playing" both against each other , comparing their worth to see wich one he picks .

I'm suprised nobody has mentioned Kraven. I think it could be very plausible to see THC as Kraven. A least just as plausible as Scorpion, Hobgoblin, Shocker, or Electro anyway. Plus, Kraven's a more...I guess "epic" villian than the others.

It's very possible to continue the "Harry goes crazy" storyline with another villian. It could either be a subplot where Harry is brooding over it, hiding his intentions from Peter, or Harry could be funding the villian that goes after Spidey, or a combination of both! Hell, Rami might set it up for future movies to use Harry in that fashion, mastermind villian funding all the other baddies. Who knows, but it's still possible to use, even if Rami and the cast is leaving after this movie.
