I love Garcia-Lopez! I remember as a kid, seeing his work on Superman and realizing for the first time that this art was different, better than the rest of the comics I had been looking at, and for the first time I made it a point to look for an artist's name in the credits of a comic book.

Modern Master is a fitting tribute to the man!

Sorry, Jan. I can't name any more names at the moment. Volume 6 will be coming out probably in January of next year with Volume 7 two or three months later. In the meantime, though, I'm working on a book with Scott Beatty (of Batman fame). It's called The Brave and Bold Art of Jim Aparo (though it covers Jim's entire career, not just Brave and the Bold) and is scheduled for April. Scott's writing it and I'm designing it. It is not part of the Modern Masters series, but it's a book I've wanted to do for several years, as Aparo was my first “favorite artist.”

I'll also mention that I'll be showing a large amount of José's early Argentinean work in the book. I couldn't get the originals, unfortunately, but very few people in the US have seen any of this stuff, and it's quite nice. And there's sketches... lots of sketches.

# 6 will be out in February and will feature Arthur Adams :) :)

# 7 spring / summer 2006 will be a John Byrne issue :) :)

The time for a Mignola issue draws closer.

I love this series! In fact, one small but significant reason I love SDCC each year is that TwoMorrows publishing has a booth setup and usually has advance copies of these Modern Masters volumes on sale months before they hit newstands. God bless TwoMorrows and God bless this series!

I believe it IS high time that Mignola had an issue dedicated to him, however, Comic Book Artist had a really good retrospective that came out not too long ago which went into pretty good depth. Perhaps TwoMorrows isn't ready to tread already trodden ground so soon, or perhaps Mike has just been too busy to contribute yet. I'm sure we'll see one eventually. In the mean time, I'm very much looking forward to both the A. Adams and Byrne issues. Both are favorites of mine and I look forward to reading what each has to say in their respective issues.

Yeah, the Modern Masters series is the best of its kind that I've ever read, hands down! They always do justice to the creator with a lengthy interview chock full of all kinds of great artwork! :D
