I know I made a thread on who do you think the villain will be. Now it seems that not only is Lex Luthor in the movie, but their will be another villain that the writers are planning to have either a link with Superman's planet or one that has been hunting Superman in space for a good while. Who do you suppose this villain is?

I say it's Brainiac.

Either Brainiac or the Eradicator.

Probably Braniac. The original intention of Superman III was to have Braniac as the main bad guy.

I'd like to see a Luthor/Brainiac team-up against Supes

Now here's another question: How would they go about trying defeating him?

Supposidly, the villains will not team up.

but wouldn't that be waaaaaay too much movie, for him to handle 2 villains? I mean, it would make a lot more sense for them to team up, seeing as how even with Zod and the other two, Luthor still couldn't take Supes down, so wouldn't the next logical step be for him to team up again?

Pfft. Doomsday.

Brainiac really seems to be the logical choice. I kind of hope if they do him, he's more like his animated version, though...I like the tie to Krypton.

Supposidly, Luthor won't know that the other one exists.

Hmm something I hadn't thought of before... if they're keeping it consistent with the first two Superman characters then Lex Luthor is going to be a comedy character with delusions of being a genius. I hope they forget that bit

Unless you're a fan of the animated series, Brainiac didn't have anything to do with Krypton.

Er, or you know, you read some Pre-Crisis comic books.

Well Singer has said that the first two Superman films will be tied into "Superman Returns" in a sort of vague history kind of way. I believe it's safe to say that Lex will probably be a bit more like his post-crisis self. With some hints of pre-crisis here and there.

Disappointed Mercy wont be in it. :(

Oh, and I think the other villian will be Brainiac.

I know. That's why I said if he's in, I'd like to see a version more like the animated one.

I think the tie to Krypton makes him a better villian and makes him tie in with the Superman mythos better.

Brainiac was interesting in the animated series.

Heh... the haunting way he would say "Kal-El" would always send shivers down my spine.

I always thought it would be neat if Lex Luthor was the primary villain and his right hand man and lead goon was Metallo. That way you have the mastermind angle with Luthor, the danger of a strong physical villain, and the danger of Kryptonite. A nice combo and the villains would work naturally with each other. Just like in the cartoon, I can see Luthor goon John Corben hurt badly during a scuffle with Superman--Luthor gives him a new body (the Metallo construct) and uses him as his ultimate weapon against his arch-nemesis. Might be interesting.

Helll yeaaaaaa Doomsday. Maybe noot for the first one but he NEEDS to be in at one superman movie.

Just like Venom HAS to be in a spider man movie.

According to Singer there won't be any supervillains in Superman Returns.

Luthor gets centre stage in this one.

I kind of think that is a smart move... I just hope that there are enough epic setpieces to make it an exciting movie. Because a straight Lex v. Supes film could potentially be flat and unexciting without a super-powered opponent. After all, as much as Lex is a mental and psychological threat, Superman is still very much a physical character.

I like this scenerio. Might tick off some Metallo fans, since he would be essentially regulated as a Luthor thug. But in the end, it shouldnt be that big of a deal. However, I do like that Lex is getting center stage as the films villian. He's such a great character, he deserves it. A teamup with Brainiac wouldnt work on the silver screen I believe. Mainly because I think people would walk away thinking that Lex isnt much of a threat when compared to Brainiac. Which shouldnt be the case. Especially when re-starting a franchise.

I agree. By teaming up Brainiac and Luthor, how can Luthor come off looking like a viable threat. Brainiac is both a mastermind AND a physical threat. I dont think you could have them side-by-side without Luthor looking a little emasculated.

Sort of like how Luthor became the sideshow during Superman II.

As far as I know, Luthor is the only villain in the movie. Besides, a villain team-up would be too premature. After all, this is Superman's first movie in nearly 20 years.
