Just wondering... how would New York City and the Marvel Universe be different if Peter Parker had never been bitten by the radioactive spider? Throw out anything that you think would have happened. Here's what I think:

No Venom or Carnage. That's an easy one.

The Punisher would be more aggressive if only Daredevil was trying to stop him.

Someone else would probably have been the main guy to take on the semi-powerful metahumans that Spiderman usually deals with, but who? Daredevil, Black Cat, Nova???

I was thinking... maybe the history of the "age of heroes" would have been different. I mean Spiderman was one of the first heroes of the modern age MU, other than the FF. So if Spidey had not come out and been successful, maybe other solo heroes would not have as well? Just a thought.

Also... didnt Spiderman save the universe or something in Infinity Abyss? Guess that wouldn't happen also.

Well, Gwen Stacy would still be alive for sure.
Actually there is a What if? about if Flash Thompson, Betty Brant or John Jameson were bitten instead of Peter. Good Ending!

Spoiler if you are planning to read it
The ending is the same in all of them and how they all die but Peter finds their body, takes some of their blood, figures out what happens, injects himself with it and becomes Spiderman.

Lots of hot comic babes would have to find another hero to hang out with?

But ya dd would have a lot of slack to pick up. Which might be a good thing. Always thought dd was a bit underused in the marvel universe.

Spidey really changed the world of superheros (in DC and Marvel) and made it a more interesting genre...it was kinda like the same effect the Beatles had when they came to the states. Music changed forever

Well, for starters, Red Skull would have successfully ignited World War III.

John Jameson would be dead. Dr. Octopus would likely have blown up a large portion of New Jersey. Sandman would have held Midtgown High hostage, and likely killed someone before the crisis ended. Curt Connors would never have stopped being the Lizard. The Vulture would have had his way with the Daily Bugle offices. The Green Goblin would have harrassed some other hero in his bid to take over the underworld, and probably transferred his dangerous obsession to that hero and that hero's loved ones. The Beetle may well have killed Dorrie Evans. The Big Man, the Crime Master, and others would have had longer and more productive careers. The Molten Man's rampage would have run unchecked. A poor guy named Joe who stumbled into superpowers would likely have died. Whatever Ock wanted with ISO-36, he would have gotten it.

And that's just some highlights from the Ditko run. I could go on, and bring up a number of occurences, any one of which could have dominoed into disaster for New York, America, or even the world. To say nothing of what might have happened to Peter and Aunt May if he hadn't been able to make money by taking pictures of Spider-Man.

Time is a tapestry. Pull on its threads at your peril.

So who would be the #1 solo hero in NYC? DD? I just don't think he'd want to tackle all of the Sandman/Lizard/Electro etc. type characters.

What would the world of comics be like without Spidey? Hmmm....

-There would be no one besides the Hulk to keep Wolverine in check
-The Kingpin wouldn't have had a list of jokes about his mama read off to him
-DareDevil wouldn't have to admit to anyone having a sixth sense that matches and exceeds his own superhuman senses
-Captain America would have no one to respect and look to for inspiration
-The word "teamwrecker" as we know it would not exist
-MJ, Gwen, and Aunt May wouldn't have much of a purpose in comics, as well as J Jonah Jameson, Robbie Robertson, Betty Brant, etc.
-MARVEL would be nowhere near a driving force at the movies
-Nightcrawler would be the most agile character in the MU
-No character below class 85 or so would touch the FF

The list goes on and on and on......

There's even more possibilities. maybe the Fantastic Four go to Florida to fight the Lizard, and someone else ends up fighting the Molecule Man.
Villains defeated by Spider-Man may kill other heroes.
Flash Thompson might have been a Human Torch fan.

As much as I love Spidey, theres no reason why a small team of X-Men couldnt handle his rogues, or someone like Ms. Marvel could do it solo.

Going by continuity, retro as well, Jewel would probably tackle a lot of Spidey villains.
