The Adventurer

The past couple of weeks have landed a few new titles from DC's Humanoids and 2000AD imports on my lap and I figured I share the love.
First up is Nikola Dante Vol.1: The Romanov Dynesty, this book reprints a number of 2000AD story arcs about Nikola Dante, Lover, Rogue, Adventurer, and Deadbeat of Russia 2666AD. It's the story about a Theif discovers he's a member of a lower royal house of Russian Aristocrate socity and he couldn't be happier with all the boose, wealth, and tail that intitles. But nobody cares for Dante's style and he's always finding himself in the frying pan, dirty fighting his way to victory. "Honor Be Damned!" and all that.
Grade A boo all around, I've got to pick up Volume 2 that came out last week soon.
Next is a Humanoids offering, Miss: Better Living Through Crime presents 4 stories about a Hitman team during the Roaring Twenties. The main characters are Nola (A down and out white girl living in the slums), and Slim (A Black Pimp who seems to have the whole world gunning for him). Together they make quite the hitman team, killing mobsters, gangsters, misstresses, husbands, wives, etc... all in the name of making ends meet. It's a fantastic book, with amazing art and a story that twists and turns. Can't recomend it enough. If you love Crime Drama, get this.
Also from Humanoids, Charland Anthology #2: Freddy Lambart Reprinting two Freddy Lambart adventures. Freddy Lambart is a kind of raunchy spin on the Tin Tin consept, where Freddy and his pals, Dina and Sweep travel the world getting into all kinds of trouble. Sex, Murder, Revolution, and Kidnapping permiate this volume with some great over the top cartoonish action, with a more dirty tone. It's fun as all heck, and the art is breathtaking. Another A+ gem
Finaly from 2000AD, Skizz is an Alan Moore tale from the 1980s, about an Alien traveller crashed and stranded on planet Earth. Not understanding our world he stumbles into the hands of some college coeds who promise to help Skizz escape the paranoid athorities after him.
It's not the greatest story ever, but it's fun with some great dramaic moments and good Black and White art. You really feel for Skizz's plight stuck in a world he just doesn't understand. B+, check it out if you like solid Sci-Fi yarns.
And that's it, solid additions to my other Humanoids/2000AD albums, I've got a few more books in the pull box at the local shop, including Devlin Waugh from from 2000AD. That should be good. Accualy with DC solicitations this month I'm got a stack coming in June...
THE BALLAD OF HALO JONES TP (2000AD)
THE COMPLETE INDIGO PRIME TP (2000AD)
ROGUE TROOPER VOL. 2: FORT NEURO TP (2000AD)
THE INCAL VOL. 2: THE EPIC JOURNEY TP (Humanoids)
TRANSGENESIS 2025 VOL. 1: ANCESTOR PROGRAM TP (Humanoids)
I can't get enough of European comics. It's my Manga, apparently. All the best in Sci-Fi, Crime, and Horror comics come from Europe, it's amazing.
