I heard Toni Basil's 1980s cheerleading hit "Mickey" on the radio tonight. I must say: this song is possibly the most endearingly annoying pop song of all time. You almost feel like you should hate it, but somehow, you just can't.

I actually liked the song when it came out. I can't decide if it was due to the song itself or simply the video with the cheerleaders.

Yes, that's annoying.

But I doubt you heard the version by 'Lolly'.

Most definitely an annoying piece of radio-friendly pop. Then again, I can also remember days of past when that song was welcomed by cheers from my little sister which is what always jumps into my head whenever I hear that song.

Eh. It could be worse I suppose......

One word...maybe two.
Chumbawumba.

I'm hard-pressed to find "Mickey" anything but annoying, these days.

And Alex, dude, "Tubthumping" is one of the great one-hit-wonder pop singles of the late '90s, along with "You Only Get What You Give," "The Way," and "Zoot Suit Riot."

No, I'm not kidding.

I actually like all those songs. Although "Fire Escape" is a better song than "The Way"

And once in awhile I annoy people by singing "Mickey" and substituting my name in the chorus. That works for a few songs actually.

I have.

No, it was horrible, you are the wrong!
And The Way wasn't a one hit wonder, because Fire Escape charted, and then they had one more song.
As "You Only Get What You Give" was actually thje first of two hits (though the second one lesser, but it was then covered by Mandy Moore....someday We'll know i think it was called)
...
Zoot Suit Riot i don't think we can count, because it sounded like a billion other songs during that 3 month retro phase everyone had.

I found Mickey to be a little bit fun and yet fairly annoying at the same time. Recently, I've been enjoying a song that was apparently inspired by Mickey and also by that classic, Secret Agent Man:

The Teen Titans theme, performed by Puffy AmiYumi

Not in my part of the country. Besides, we call people one-hit wonders that had more than one charting song all the time. Thomas Dolby had several charting songs, but everyone calls him a one-hit wonder because "She Blinded Me With Science" was the big one.

I never heard "Someday We'll Know" on the radio, but I have the album, so I know it's a great song.

Yes, but it's the only one that was a big smash. Again, from my subjective stance: it was the only retro-swing song that got massive radio play in my area.

Puffy might be the greatest pop band in existence right now.

It's Raining Men by The Weathergirls might edge out Toni Baisl' Mickey for most annoying pop song.

It is more annoying, as it lacks the limited charm of "Mickey."

"Mickey", if it's the song I think it is, is referenced in Wayne's World. Therefore, awesomeness.

I like Mickey.

I jumped all around the living room the first time I heard 'Tubthumping'. By the fifth time I'd heard it, I wanted to shoot the radio.

Toni Basil's "Mickey": the most endearingly annoying pop song of all time? I agree, except for the "endearing" part.
