View Full Version : Your Very Own Solo Avengers Book

The Avengers have recently spawned several solo books.
Some, like Hawkeye and Antman, failed pretty miserably.
Some, like She-Hulk, are struggling yet sucessful.
Others, like Black Panther and Hercules, are still too early to call.
But my question is, in the wake of the seperation caused by Disassembled, what is YOUR idea for an Avengers solo book?
I personally would like to see our new Oxford fellow Hank Pym in action as a part time adventurer/archaeologist hero, part time Oxford smartypants. Along the lines of Indiana Jones. In fact, my Goliath solo would have very strong parallels to old Indy. Sort of like "What If...Indiana Jones Could Grow Huge?"
I mean, once you're an Avenger, you always gotta have that yearning for adventure, right? At least I would think for Hank Pym.
Anyway, share any and all thoughts about YOUR'S and others' solo Avengers titles. And if there was a thread like this already, I couldn't find it.

I would like to see a Carol Danvers solo book. I think it would be cool to take Whedon's SWORD (which is a branch of SHIELD) and make Carol a field agent, which means she'd essentially be an ambassador/mediator/spy/ass-kicker to other planets, dimensions, etc. She'd could interact with the Kree, Shi'ar, and Skrull. Maybe she'd take some trips to the Negative Zone. She'd could also have lots of cosmic-type guest stars. I'd love to see Whedon write it. Of course, an idea like this isn't nearly high-profile enough for someone like him.
Barring that, I'd actually like Carol to take over the mentor role in Young Avengers. First of all, she's got more experience than Jess. Second of all, she's nearly as jaded and cynical. Finally, I just think Carol's due. Hopefully, Hous of M will be her time to shine. Then again, I think Bendis absolutely missed the boat with Carol during Disassembled.
Anyway, I love Carol, and I think a solo book with her would just be peachy.

Or how about, what if Indiana Jones could grow SMALL....enough to fit through the keyholes and traps, penitrate the castle, tomb, etc, without tripping the traps? Isn't that more likely and worthwhile to a tomb raider?
PS: To what recent solo Hawkeye book are you refering?
I know of only the Solo Avengers and one mini-series....
And poor Herc has had at least two successful and one sucky mini series... so I wouldn't say the jury is still out on that one by any means...

I prefer Jess in YA. And BMB might be adding her to the Avengers after House of M.

Captain Britain - a masked superhero working for the British Ministry of Defence and also a pop-culture icon. Kids and business execs swanning about with Cap t-shirts, magazine covers and album titles. Neither Braddock, nor the new one - the UK government are using the name to promote their own next generation of superhumans. And his first story would focus on this unknown Captain Britain repelling a team of American supes, maybe some former concerned Avengers like Falcon and SHIELD operatives, from a secret installation out in the countryside. So Cap would be a fashion icon and hero of the people - at the same time serving a sinister agenda for the government.

Why call it Captain Britain then? It's like taking the Punisher and calling him Daredevil.

The Falcon:
The Falcon, dealing with a bar that's opened up in Harlem, that's really a front for super villain mercenary operations. The Falcon has to take on all the big name villains, who've moved into his territory. Falcon vs Vulture, Falcon vs Electro, vs Bullseye, vs the Trapster. With a run in with the one and only Deadpool too.
Quicksilver:
Pietro, feeling a sense of responsibilty for the recent actions of his family, returns to the superhero game full time. Taking his superheroics on the road, criss-crossing the country at superspeed saving lives and stopping crime. Becoming involved in a world domination plot by some of the biggest super villains in the Marvel Universe along the way.
Ant-Man in the Microverse!:
Scott Lang realizing he was in danger began instinctively began shrinking to avoid the blast that everyone thinks killed him. But having no control over the speed he was moving at, accidentally shrunk himself into the Microverse. Now Scott Lang is trying to get home, taking him on adventures throughout the entire Microverse in his quest to get back home, and back to his daughter.
The Amazing D-Man:
Demolition Man, champion of the people. Helping the helpless, especially the homeless. D-Man protecting a colony of outcasts who've moved into the old Morlock tunnels. Mutants, the homeless, those who've just gotten sick of the world above, all have taken up residence in Zerotown and now D-Man has to protect them from the most bizarre threats he'd never imagine facing. Vampires, Dark Beast's genetic experiments on the loose, supervillains running from the authorities, corporations looking to use and abuse Zerotown, the mob, even the Lizard. D-Man faces them all alone... or with occasional help from Blade, the X-men, Spider-Man, Daredevil, the Punisher, Captain America, and maybe Howard the Duck.
The Mighty Thor:
Donald Blake, a man fresh out of med school and ready to begin his career as a doctor, wakes up one day to find a walking stick in a package sent to him from parts unknown. Striking it to the ground, Donald Blake is transformed into the mighty Thor, and all the memories come rushing back. Thor is back, and has no idea what's happened to him. He's locked out of Asgard, barely remembers Ragnarok, his power has been severely weakened, and he's trying to find out what's what. First blaming Loki, until Loki shows up at his door, in a mortal form. Thor and Loki are forced to work together to find out the secret to their return, all the while keeping their return a secret. Hard to do that when creatures out of Norse myth begin to show up in Manhattan every day.
Untold tales of Wonder Man and the Beast:
Alone Wonder Man and the Beast have had alot of crazy adventures, but the craziest happen whenever they get together. Set in the past, present, and ocasionally the future when they in time travel trouble. The buddy comedy road trip series. Cameos galore.

I think it would be awesome if Marvel had a Solo Avengers or Avengers Spotlight book, to "revamp" corny Avengers like Doc Druid and Gilgamesh. To have new heroes take up the "identy" of fallen Avengers like Hawkeye and Ant-Man. To showcase classic Avengers in solo adventures and team-ups between classic Avengers, and "revamped" Avengers.

Well, right now, the one I would most like to read is:
The Sentry
written by Paul Jenkins and illustrated by Scott Kolins
There is just so much to be explored about this guy that I dont think one three-part arc in NA is even close to enough. He is easily the most interesting new character Marvel has had in decades and I would be stunned if he doesnt get at least a mini within the next year or so.

I love Jae, and I loved his take on it, but I figured I would go with someone different for the fun of it. As for Kolins, I loved his EMH stuff, and I have seen some of his Flash stuff and that was nice too. His artwork has a nice silver age feel to it, and I find that would fit the Sentry just fine. Plus, there would have to be cameos from some of the Avengers, and I like the way he draws Cap and Iron Man.

Amazing Fantasy could be used for this...
And YA looks like it's gonna have characters take the torch from Ant-Man and Hawkeye.

I feel silly replying to this, but still.
I thought it would be interesting to have a series idea about a superhero identity as a brand name. Captain Britain worked for me because (a) you can play up all that desperate 'cool Britannia', pop fashion marketing from a few years ago - New Labour, socialism as fashion accessory and (b) from the very beginning of Cap B there's been literally thousands of the guy. Alan Moore wrote him as a multiversal superhero and now Braddock has been replaced by some little used female version. 'Captain Britain', seems to be more a title than anything almost, a property that has to be revived every now and then to keep it in circulation (like 'Captain Marvel').

I saw Moore's idea as a multiversal GL corps but I get what you mean. It just seemed silly to use the name and nothing else, the other Captain Britains were all very similar, stylistically, this would be very different.

It would yeah. Essentially the name has been stolen by the MoD, to give their superhuman program a more acceptable face. I'm curious to see what Miller does with Ult. Cap B.

THE MIGHTY THOR ... after lifetime filled with crime, self-loathing, abuse, hatred, and general misery - Carl Watson is dying. And not in the way he'd always imagined - being brutally murdered at the hands of one of the many people he had wronged in his turbulent past, and left to rot in some forgotten backalley. Just another casuality of a cruel and unforgiving world ...
No ... he exists now as a motionless shadow of man in some dreary hospital bed. A bitter old fool whose mind is fully aware of the slow-death that awaits his crippled body. Lost and alone, he is without family and certainly without friends ... not a single soul will mourn hsi loss. Treatment after treament proves to be unsuccessful, and with everyday his body withers further into nothingness. Unable to speak or move, his doctors give up hope and do their best to make his final days as peaceful as possible. Days turn into weeks, weeks into months, and soon many years pass ... until he can fight no more.
And with his dying breath ... a silent admission, and a desperate plea ... to someone, anyone.
And an answer comes.
For this worthless wretch is the last descendant of divine Norsk-Blut ... the final anscestor of an ageless bloodline, the last living scion of a union between a mortal woman ... and a God long forgotten.
"Yea verily," speaks the voice from beyond, "this time your life shall be quite different ... "

Thanks ... I liked the idea of a "broken" man, revived with almighty power and given a second chance (a nod to Donald Blake, of course)
I figured that "The Odin-Force" could imbue this poor bastard with the power of his Norse heritage ... turning him into an iconic hero similar to Thor. At least that's how people who immediately percieve him. Thus he immediately realizes the immense pressure and responsibility that he's under ... for better or worse.
Because of this guys' horrible past, the book could explore the most deplorable corners of the Human mind, while "exorcising" the man's spirit with his new-found might. He could use his powers in an attempt to right some of the wrongs he has commited ... sometimes he would succeed, and other times not - all the while learning what it means to be both Human and Super-Human. The imperfect striving for glorious perfection, right?
This dichotomy somewhat parallels that of the "Immortal / Mortal Hero" which could be played out in countless ways ... I mean, you'd HATE this guy for what he was/is but you cheer as he races (or flies!) towards his own salvation (while beating the snot outta villians and beasts!!)

Spider-Woman! Jessica Drew (let there be NO confusion). I'd give anything to see a cool Spider-Woman series again after all these years! I'd love to see Bendis and Finch do a series based on the original Spider-Woman! Heck, I'd love to see them do She-Hulk, too! It would finally mean a She-Hulk that doesn't suck!

(But Dr.Druid was already turned into an amazingly interesting character in that sadly underrated and largely ignored Druid mini by Ellis.)

In light of the incredibly successful Superman/Batman series, Marvel quickly tries to find a suitable competitor. Then, they realize that it's Superman and Batman. There is no competition. No duo is more popular than these two. So Marvel does the logical thing.
Makes a mismatched comedic rip-off.
And thus, The Sentry and Moon Knight was born!
Come on. You can't realistically tell me that you wouldn't love to see Marvel's answers to Superman and Batman paired up in a comedic knockoff of the bestseller. Get a capable writer onboard...Dan Slott, Robert Kirkman...and that book would be amazing.
