View Full Version : BoP--Bat Book No More
I understand that Birds of Prey is no longer a Bat book. I am wondering exactly what that means. Especially in terms of story telling.

I can't speak for Gail (obviously) but so far it seems to mean they aren't operating in Gotham anymore. The latest few issues have them globetrotting around against superheros who kill. The DC Encyclopedia also says that the Birds are going to be based in Metropolis, though I don't know how true this is considering their command center seems to be a plane.
I assume they won't be part of bat-crossovers as well, which is always a good thing. That's been the way for a while now.
Also (BoP #80 spoiler) Huntress left the team in a huff after she discovered Oracle had been manipulating both she and Black Canary rather than being a true friend. To me she seems the most obvious tie to Gotham and Batman, and she's gone, at least for the next few issues from the solicits.
[edit: wrong BoP spoiler number]
Thanks for the response. I guess what I am getting at is will the group be working with Batman?
I can understand the team flying around and having adventures all around the globe. But I could understand that happening with BoP still being part of the Bat books. To have the book yanked out of the Bat books (whatever that means) seems like a rather permanent descision. Which I find disapointing because I really enjoyed the interactions that Babs had with Cassie. And especially the Batman and Huntress dynamic. I think she's a phenomenal character and for her to be taken out of the Bat books (especially since Batman influenced her) to be a crying waste.
As for your spoiler.....I hardly doubt that it will be long term. 6 issues max.

On the spoiler: I totally agree. But it had to be mentioned.
As for interacting with Batman, I think they'll interact with him as much as they do with any other guest shot hero, which is to say an arc every once in a while but not too often. But that's pure speculation.
What isn't speculation is that the current writer on Batgirl (I can never spell his name right so I won't try anymore) plans on doing an arc soon that deals with Barbara's abandonment of Cass after War Games and the bad terms they left on when Babs accused Cassandra of not even trying to learn to read. So you might want to pick that up, it's pretty good.
Just so you know: The current arc is Batgirl out on her own in Blüdhaven and this months issue seems to be dealing with her feelings towards Spoiler's death in War Games. The next arc seems to be Batgirl dealing with nature vs nurture and trying to find out who her mother is/was and fighting with Raveger. I'd guess the Barbara/Cassandra arc comes after that. I really like how the current writer is focusing on her psyche and giving her some real personality again.

By the way, I'm curious... Where do you get your insight into these things? :)

I have a dull job that lets me read interviews and threads. Like this one: http://forums.comicbookresources.com/showthread.php?t=46187 :p

BoP still has the Bat logo on it, doesn't it?
Batman just had a guest appearance in the one before this one.
Either way, man, wasn't the last issue great? I loved the ending, my favorite book of the week by far.

BOP used to be listed with the "Batman" titles in the DC solicitation information; for the last several months it's been listed under "DC Universe" instead.
It's my understanding that BOP will not be interacting with the bat-titles on a very regular basis anymore (post-War Games), but some clarification here would be helpful. Perhaps Gail could help us out in this regard.

Basically BoP isn't under the editorial control of the Bat-office anymore. That doesn't mean Batman and co. can't show up occasionally, but it exempts BoP from big events like War Games.

Well, that can only be a good thing.
