With Batman Begins coming out this year, Superman Returns for next year,
and now an upcoming Wonder Woman film from Joss Whedon, who thinks that
DC's big 3 will rule Hollywood's box office and beat the competition with Spider-Man and X-Men?

it's about time. Marvel has beaten them to the punch and may have beaten it so bad, the market for superhero films may begin to dwindle...

But both three X movies did very well in terms of sales.

As for them dominating... no. Not overall. The movies, no matter how good, will always be dwarfed by other blockbusters in terms of sales and by more independent or... well, better written films in terms of quality. But if you're referring to their dominating the niche comic book movie buisness, it's quite possible. I think Sin City has a chance of doing well but I think the "trinity" will be above marvel in the next year or so, since Marvel only has Fantastic Four coming out to my knowledge. They might get Spider Man 3 or X-men 3 out too, which would certainly give any of those three a run for their money.

Eh, I think people who think comic based movies in general, let alone DC's "Big Three", are going to take over anything but a niche portion of the movie industry in general are kidding themselves in the extreme.

I think what you're forgeting that Supes and Bats are iconicle. Their appeal reaches beyond the niche market. People that would never touch a comic book will go see a Batman or Superman movie just because of the characters.

You have to romance the non comics folks with flashy previews and things for say an X-men or Fantastic Four movie who have probably never heard of the characters. But EVERYONE knows Bats and Supes.

WW on the other hand…with Whedon on board I'll be first in line but shes not on the same level, recognition wise as Bats or Supes.

Close though. She's the only instantly recognizable super-heroine without connections to a male predecessor.

GremlinClr mistakes what I'm saying:

I'm not forgetting anything. The niche I'm talking about isn't comic book readers (hell, that's not even big enough to be considered a niche in the movie industry), but action/adventure movies, of which super-hero movies are taking over a very small portion, and likely to remain that way.

Superman, Batman, and WW might be icons and all, but if you polled the world and asked who their favorite superhero was, Spider-Man would mop the floor with any of them. I'm clearly not seeing why you automatically assume that the DC trinity has any advantage over Spider-Man. Are there some five people in the world that know of Superman and have never heard of Spider-man that are going to buy a hundred thousand tickets each?
