Joss Whedon has been selected to write and direct the adaptation of Themyscria's Finest to the silver screen, according to the Hollywood Reporter. "Wonder Woman is the most iconic female heroine of our time, but in a way, no one has met her yet," Whedon said in a statement. "What I love most about icons is finding out what's behind them, exploring the price of their power. There is a woman behind the legend who is very fascinating, very uncompromising and in her own way almost vulnerable. She's someone who doesn't belong in this world, and since everyone I know feels that way about themselves, the character clicked for me."

In the "Whedon-verse", I always thought Charisma Carpenter would've best looked the part of Wonder Woman, although I doubt her acting (and celebrity rating) will be enough for her to get the lead in a big movie. And, I heard WB frowns on those who've done Playboy, so who knows.

It'll likely be a big name though - Catherine Zeta-Jone, Sandra Bullock - one of the names we've heard - is my guess. As long as it ain't Julia Roberts...LOL.

This film should be great though if we get top notch Whedon!

I hope it's not an A-list celeb, because they never turn into good superheroes. It's not like Tobey, Hugh, Brandon, etc, were huge names before Spidey, X-Men, and Superman. I want a relatively unknown actress to get her shot. Plus, I can't think of any A-list celeb that looks good for the role.

This is fantastic news! I'll just remain + on the casting and wait for further details. GO WB! ROCK ON JOSS! :D

I hope the link works - if not, I'll post the whole thing. It's an open letter to Joss Whedon from somebody at MTV News. It's very tongue in cheek, but also quite accurate.

I'd be interested in everyone's thoughts.

And I'm sorry, I am completely and totally opposed to the idea of Charisma Carpenter as Diana. She's a beautiful woman, yes. Would probably look lovely in whatever outfit they put her in. She's NOT Diana. That statement will probably get my Whedon Fan Club membership revoked, because she seems to be an odds-on favorite for some reason that I can't quite fathom.

Personally, I like Morena Baccarin. :)

I'm with you 100% (and in my brain full of wonderous dellusions, I took that video interview as hope).

I think Morena would be PERFECT. She's beautiful but she's also VERY intelligent, full of grace and you just watch any scene she's in in Firefly and she just has this majesty to her. She can handle the very proud and strong nature of Diana, as well as her vulnerable moments.

I don't see Charisma in the role at all.

Now, if Joss just wanted to cast her as another Amazon, then by all means...

Also, I hadn't posted on this news before but I am, of course, incalcuably GEEKED that Joss will be doing the WONDER WOMAN movie (I hope he's a fan of Rucka's run). It does, however, also serve as a deep dissapointment to me because I was really banking on him to do X3, which WW puts the kibosh on (or rather... X3 kiboshed itself, thus pushing Joss into the arms of WW).

I'll agree with both you guys on this - she'd be great. Thank God I married a Whedon fan, otherwise my knowledge of any Whedon specific stuff would be limited to Luke Perry and Donald Sutherland!

Show of hands -- who else saw Buffy in the theatres and just thought "Why would they have a series based on that god-awful film?" when the series premiered? I'm not afraid to admit that's why I saw very little of the TV show until I met my wife.

When BUFFY was first announced, I only gave it a shot because it co-starred Anthony Stewart Head, late of one of my other favorites, VR.5. I didn't care about those Taster's Choice commercials. Just VR.5

Then I got hooked for three seasons.

I did. Only difference is I didn't even see the movie. A combination of persistent nagging and dumb luck got me to watch the show mid-season 3 and I've been a Whedon stalker ever since.

Morena Baccarin can not be Wonder Woman. I could never survive being in that much trouble with Patricia.
