Absolute Planetary hardcover

THIS is the way to read Planetary. Collected stories in a BIG, over-sized hardcover with a built-in book mark (kind of a ribbon thingee).

Anybody else diggin this or planning on getting it?

I've dropped the title. I can't stand continuing to support a book that's so frickin' late. I feel like I'm being strung along.

Anyway, the difference matters to me.

I'm looking forward to volume 2... some time within the next decade, I guess.

bought this for $30 of amazon and it's one of my favorite tpb's so far ( i own about 75). as far as the lateness of planetary, it's never bothered me since it came back on the schedule with issue 16. i just enjoy it when it comes out and never pay attention to the solicits. but i'm biased as i'm a cassaday freak and own about twelve pages of planetary art. i hope that there's an Absolute Planetary V.2 and they put in the kickass planetary/batman crossover.

OH yeah. I was thinking Planetary/JLA, but I remember the one you mean.

I reread the hardcover recently (yes, I'm really hopin' for a vol. 2, as well) and saw the pseudo-Wonder Woman, once again noticing how very similar she was to the Wonder Woman from the Planetary/JLA book. (Would've been nice if he hadn't changed continuity the way he did, but oh well.)

I don't pay attention to solicitations, either... at all. But considering how long this book has been around... and how low the issue numbers are... that's just pitiful.

The hardcover is a beautiful thing, though.

I've said before, and someone else agreed with me, that it looked like Cassaday's art is cleaner... tighter, in X-Men than it was in the earlier Planetary issues. (Thinking about it, now, that was years back, so this kinda makes sense.)

I haven't looked at my Planetary tpb's since I got that hardcover, so I'm not sure if the difference I saw was due to the over-sized art.

Thoughts?actually i asked this same question of cassaday at a panel at this year's wondercon and he said the evolution to a cleaner style happened between planetary 14 and 15 while he was working on the captain america relaunch. while that arc suffered from fair to poor writing his art is spectacular-check out the six issue hardcover if you don't already have it.

THIS is why I flip back through subscribed threads once in a while. This is the second post I completely missed.

Thanks for the info. I am trying VERY HARD to wait for the next Absolute (hopefully, they'll make one). Unfortunately, there are apparently some issues that I SOMEHOW missed and they're in the latest tpb volume. rassum frassum

I don't know how I'm going to make it but I'm sure going to try.

(and the crossover trade)

been wanting to get back into it and was thinking about getting them all in trades again, so now I'm wanting to know, how many issues does the HC contain?

This could be the answer to me prayers.
(not that I do pray)
(and if I did, I'd probably pray for somthing more substantial than a way to get back into planetary)
(like world peace or somthing)
(or a million smackers)

From what I understand, there are multiple hardcovers, but only one BIG one. I'm assuming that's the one you're referring to... the Absolute Planetary hardcover, slipcase edition. It says, "Originally published in a single magazine form as PLANETARY #1-12, copyright 1999, 2000, 2001 and PLANETARY Preview copyright 1998."

There are also hardcovers that contain six issues, at a time, I believe.

I don't know how I'm going to make it but I'm sure going to try.just so we're clear, i meant the writing on the six issues of captain america was fair to mediocre, not planetary. i love planetary, delays or no, and i also am waiting with baited breath for a V.2 of absolute planetary. don't see how they couldn't after reprinting the uneveness of the second half of authority.

Cool. I was concerned with the art stuff. I've seen all of the Planetary issues enough to have a good feel for it. They read MUCH better in collected volumes, imho.
