Okay, what gives a person the right to totally make a mess in a public restroom and not clean up after themselves?

I've seen some totally foul things in public restrooms that make un-potty trained kids look sterile in comparison.

FLUSH! Aim properly when you pee! Throw the paper towels away for the love of God!

Tell me about it. On the first day my company occupied a shiny new workplace, there was, um, fecal matter smeared on the walls of the men's room by late afternoon.

File that under TMI.

Yeesh.

I was at work and someone basically filled the toilet with— stuff— and LEFT if there the whole weekend...Monday was disturbing to say the least.

At my girlfriends college someone smeared "the mysterious sh!tter" in fecal matter in the stalls. Yes, in the womens room.
About a month later there was a random pile in the halls, but this was quite possibly from a drunkard...which is strangely more acceptable than if it had been on purpose.

I actually heard a report on the radio that women's bathrooms were found to have higher levels of bacteria than men's bathrooms.

I found that strange cos i've seen some male public toilets that are just disgusting so it makes me wonder how bad women's toilets must be......

It's likely that the cleaning staff takes a look at both restrooms and decides the men's room needs cleaning more. So they skip cleaning the ladies' room often and bacteria breed. Most public computer keyboards have more bacteria than public toilet seats, too, for similar reason: Keyboards don't get cleaned until thes start sticking to your fingers.

Some wankers are beyond disgusting.

Unless you've got physical, emotional or mental problems, there's no excuse to leave a bathroom looking like someone had a claymore mine in their bowel.

Here's an experience of mine that has become a small legend in local circles.

I don't know if any of you all have ever visited the men's toilets in North Station in Boston, but they are utterly dismal. No doors on the stalls, a dozen peeling layers of paint and plaster, ans a stench that would knock a buzzard off a garbage scow.

When I was in college, I worked the early Saturday shift at the school library, which meant I had to get up at 5 AM and subject myself to a long brutal commute via public transportation. One morning, in the middle of my commute, my gut did a flip flop, and I had to go to the bathroom immediately. Since nothing else was open, I was forced to use the North Station facilities.

I was trying to balance myself so as to not touch anything, while holding my overcoat in front of me for the illusion of privacy, when a really rough-looking homeless man walked into the men's room. He looked at me, shook his head, and said, "Not on my worst day, kid. You're better off going on some cardboard in the alley."

Yeah, but if you ask me the condition of bathrooms is practically a human rights issue.

It just shocks me that perfectly educated and well-informed people have no problem with pissing everywhere and filling up toilets with dookie and not flushing. How could any reasonable person think its okay to leave that mess for another person to clean up? Its beyond rude and cruel.

Indeed. The bathrooms at the library I worked at were also a disgrace. Because I worked the front desk from opening to closing, I saw every person who entered and left the building on a given shift. It became a point of curiosity for me--which patrons were responsible for fouling the bathrooms? The kindly old professor? The reserved grad student? The clean-cut businessman who needed change for the Xerox machine?

The world may never know.

My grandmother, who gets in the most hilarious situations, was travelling through the countryside in China a few years back with friends. (Gail are you reading this??)

So on the return leg of the journey she starts to get bad diarrhea in the coach and needs to go BADLY. But all along the way the toilets at the rest stops are so filthy she doesnt dare go into one. And so she's holding what I assume is the motherload of all dumps all the way to the airport.

Finally she gets there, hobbling as fast as she can toward the toilet. She gets in and boy was she in for the shock of her life. Apparently many people there don't know how to use a toilet bowl so they just go on the floor. And there she is tiptoeing around puddles of urine and plops of crap to get to the toilet bowl which has been left relatively untouched.

Why she felt the need to recount this tale while we were having dinner is a bit beyond me though.

My mum cleaned at a motel for 15 years and it's been her experiance those who are well dressed and groomed can be like pigs in mud when it comes to using bathroom facilities.
