I'd venture that the reason there are several 3rd-string characters there with no apparent connection to the X-men or Avengers, is to provide a little cannon-fodder.

i think the obscure characters are there to add interest. is nobody else completely tired of seeing the same ten characters in EVERYthing...Marvel's sitting on a goldmine of interesting and underutilized characters and they use the same ones all the time. hopefully, somebody's realized that it's getting to be boring.

bendis has a knack for taking underustized and obscure characters and making them absolutely captivating. or at least interesting.

It is possible to have a reality altering story without bringing in the cosmic characters. Just look at the original "Age of Apocalypse" crossover. There was a cosmic plot device, but not much more.

The first thing I would do when putting together a team to handle a reality altering event would not be putting Luke Cage and other street level types on it.

oh and if this is sposed to be some everyone comes together type of thing but on a lesser scale then anything Infinity (everyone in that picture would be killed by a Thanos type within 5 minutes hence its not) wher the hell is the Hulk?

Don't worry, the Hulk plays a large part in House of M. Peter David is devoting a couple issues of the comic to it.

I still think Quicksilver is going to be the hero of this when all is said and done. If somebody has to step up to Magneto and the Scarlet Witch, there's no better choice then him.
