I was talking to some people who basically don't do anything else but keep up with the insider news in the comic industry and basically. That deal for Neil Gaiman against todd mcfarlane is apparently settled to the point where through marvel comics he will unleash Miracle Man.Just have no idea whether he will be brought into continuity or just a quick few mini's and series. Check December 2005.

No offense, but I'll believe it when I see it.

why is it so hard to believe?? Hell the commision from the book "marvel 1602" was sent straight to the legal defense fund for marvels and miracles which is neil gaimans thing. At least tell me this....when it does happen how big a news story will it be?

It's hard to believe because we've been hearing this exact same rumor for like six months, with absolutely no activity from Gaiman, McFarlane or Marvel to speak of.
If it becomes official, it'll be big news, but I highly doubt he'll be integrated into the Marvel Universe. More than likely, he'll get an ICON or MAX series or something, and there will be new printings of the old comics. Probably nothing more than that.

wouldn't activity in the last 6 months mean more than no activity at all in years? Plus why can't it be put into marvel continuity??
Jake V

There hasn't been any activity. It was only a rumor.
Why couldn't he be incorporated into the Marvel Universe? Honestly, it would dilute the concept on both ends. The MU already has a Superman-level character in the Sentry, and given the more mature tone Marvelman/Miracleman took in his later years, it wouldn't be appropriate for the Marvel universe. Plus, Alan Moore and Gaiman probably wouldn't want him hanging out with the X-Men.

I think it will eventually happen, but when it will is anyone's guess. The only thing I can say for sure is that it will be a huge deal, and that I will be purchasing it. :)

Read the MM comics and figure it out for yourself. There is simply no way to integrate that body of work into the Marvel Universe. And a reboot would be the single stupidest idea made since New Coke.

Hey, I liked New Coke!!
Nah, actually, not really. I just wanted to say that. :D

It would be ICON. MAX is in continuity.

Right. Like US War Machine and FURY were in continuity?

BKV hinted that War Amchine was in Runaways...

Well, yeah. There is a MU War Machine, just as there is a MU Fury. The stories told in the MAX US War Machine and FURY miniseries' were not the MU versions of those characters, they were out of continuity.

Arghhh! Stupid Marvel Vertigo line thing with shaky continuity! :evilangry

From what I understand of whats been said, it's more a verbal contract at the moment that Marvel will get MircaleMan.
In fact, it's quite possible that they are just hoping for this - Gaiman could have given the 1602 with no promises and they still woulda pushed it as hard as they did.
I'd assumed they are just trying to get into his good books for when it becomes time to think about more MiracleMan....
just like when they made some changes to the Captain Britain trade to please Alan Moore - Joe Q said it was done to get Alan Moore around to thinking that Marvel could be a future avenue to do some work at - Incidently Moore said it did repair some damage to the relationship, but at the time he had nothing he wanted to do at marvel - and was heading itno semi-retirement anyway.
I could be wrong, but at this stage I'd say any MiracleMan from Marvel is only in the first phases of negotiation.
As for MiricleMan being brought into continuity...... well, I wonder why exactly you want the character brought back?
It would ruin the concept and style of the series to date, and really make him just another character...
I'd rather no new miracleman than that.
I've only read a tiny bit, so I'll be over the moon if all we ever get is reprints of what went before.
And as said before, Marvel has Sentry - it's probably not fair to his creators, but he is a kind of MiracleMan lite.
And Ithink his original mini and concept is weakened by him reappearing.

More than anything, I want reprinted tpb's.

Because MAX is not a line, it's a way for Marvel to print comics with the f-word in them. OK, maybe really early on it was thought to be a line, but pretty soon after that, it basically became a ratings system. As far as I know, the only continuity MAX books were Alias and Cage. US War Machine, Fury and Supreme Power are all out. Punisher I'm pretty sure is out too.

That's all i want too.
It's been aaaaaages since i first heard this rumour, though. It's really not going to happen, is it? :(
On the continuity thing... I don't see how you could reconcile MM with MU continuity without f'ing up one or the other. Let it stand as it stands.

If any thing I would assume this book would fall under the ICON line of marvel's such as POWERS and KABUKI are printed under. I do not foresee Gaiman fighting for the rights of this character to again loose him to Marvel? That would be counter productive and hell, marvel would just ruin this character. They would just make him disappear and then a few years later, joe blow who is the greatest newbie writer comes along and does this entire storyline of talking heads.. nah.. not believing that Marvel will place him in any of their normal lines.

Bads news it seems about Miracleman :
http://newsarama.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=30097
UGO: Has the Miracleman film gone back to Neil Gaiman or wherever it is supposed to go?
TODD: With the lawsuit, Gaiman walked away from Miracleman. I have the trademark for Miracleman. No one wants to say it out loud, but that's what happened with the lawsuit. Everyone was like "Hah hah, he killed Todd," but unfortunately -- or fortunately, depending on where you are standing -- he had to pick some copyrights to some Spawn characters or pick Miracleman. He didn't pick Miracleman.
UGO: Did he take Angela?
TODD: Yeah, he took some of the Spawn stuff. For whatever reason he walked away from Miracleman, so now Miracleman will be in the Image 10th Anniversary book.
(Newsarama Note: According to other reports, the Image Anniversary book, re-titled simply, Image Comics #1, will see print in mid to fourth quarter 2005. In the interview, McFarlane said he is currently finishing his Spawn story)
Once again MCfarlane proves how much of an ass he is . To think that such greedy mongrel , allegedly left Marvel and any chance to work again for the big two , to create a label that would give properties back to their creators and protect their freedom

Only to have Marvel set up an imprint to do the same thing without the hypocrisy. ;)

Well the whole hypocrisy is THE problem :D .
Yeah, but only if you believe Todd.
With the announce of a image 10th miracleman title , it seems more credible than the marvel rumor .
Of course no sane person would hope that mcfarlane would tell the truth

Alan Moore I don't think would ever work for marvel no matter what Marvel does to make him happy

In his defense, MM is not the easiest collection to read these days.

That wouldnt really matter, since Moore completed his run on the title. Its Gaiman who would like to finish what he was not allowed to years ago.

Go back to the page again. There is an update at the end of the original post. Gaiman has given his 2 cents on Todd's statement.

i understand the legal arguments now i think..my head hurtst but i got it...
bottom line is there will still be litigation to come. this ruling was mainly about the spawn characters going with Gaiman...Todd never had any MM rights ever to bargin with ...so gaiman says he has the spawn characters and MM rights now...todd thinks he still has a MM claim and thats where the future litigation will come in...
sigh....dont bet on this year folks...
BTW Todd is the biggest tool in comic history....

I believe that it was the following :
-Gailman created angela and Cogliostro and maybe a few other stuff in todd's spawn .
-The guys got some argument , maybe some kind of personal thing we'll never know about
-Todd doesnt pay Neil for his characters and Claims that thye had an agreement about paying Gailman with Miracle man's rights
-Gailman of course says otherwise , that the two matters have nothing to do with each others . Also Macfarlane got no rights (or those expired anyway) over Miracle Man and is a big fat liar
-Court agree with Gailman it seems
-Just like his usual self macfarlane is an ass and try to be a pest.
I'm not lost anywhere right ??

Well, according to Gaiman's website, he's in final talks to get the old Miracleman stuff back in print. Doesn't say with who or when.
Honestly, I really don't care who reprints it! I'll buy it either way, I'm not fussy.

Marvel I believe is trying their best to secure the reprinting rights
