Surprisingly, I've ordered all 4 of them. They all seem to have top of the line talent and interesting stories...

If the rumors about Countdown are true, then I won't be buying any of them, and will probably never buy a DC comic again until Dan Didio and Geoff Johns are gone.

If the rumors are not true, all of them except for Rann/Thangar war.

I haven't heard any rumors, but IMHO, Geoff Jones is the best writer at DC. No one is better at fixing the problems and scraping off the accumulated crap of lame past storylines from classic characters.

Villains United for sure and maybe Rann/Thangar war and OMAC.

He is partly responsible for Identity Crisis story line, he has written Booster Gold out and looks like he is killing off Blue Beetle. So he might be fixing the characters he likes, but hypocritically destroying the eras that other people enjoyed.

Oh goody, another event that "shakes the very foundations of DCU" yet won't involve any of the DC characters I care about. I was already worried that there wouldn't be any more of those. Boy, I can't wait to start ignoring this!

(Though I'll prolly get the cheap 80-pager, since it's cheap an' all.)

That Booster Gold will no longer be a super hero and Blue Beetle will be killed off.

My first monthly series except for GIJoe was Giffen's justice league. Within the past year (year and a half?) they killed off Captain Atom and Sue Dibny and made Ralph Dibny kinda useless as a super hero for a while. if they get rid of Booster Gold and Blue Beetle, that will be the total desctruction of the heroes I grew up with. That's Geoff Johns and Dan Didio telling me they don't want my business anymore.

Yeah, yeah, I am a pain in the ass.

No, it's cool TCJohnson.
I stop reading Incredible Hulk, the book I was reading for the longest time, because Marvel didn't want PAD anymore and got Byrne (which I despise), so I understand.

I love Booster and Beetle and I really would hate for this to happen...

Since I get most of my stuff by mail order and have to wait anyway...

I'm getting Villians United because of Gail and because I love the artwork and I'm a big Deathstroke fan.

The rest, if they're good, I can probably find in trade if I want them. Not feeling excited about taking a chance, except maybe on the Rann/Thanagar war because that Adam Strange series is kicking butt. But I think I can wait for the trade there too.

Hmm...I'm thinking of TC's points about Geoff respecting his idols as characters and not anyone else's....he may have a point.

Now, I generally enjoy the Teen Titans series but I really hated John's reworking of Deathstroke, the death of Wintergreen and the corruption of Rose Wilson. It's just not my Slade, ya know, even without Joe controlling him. Dammit, I adored Wintergreen. And I hate that Rose got all dark and twisted. I cannot see the Slade from the Titans book or his own series experimenting with drugs on his daughter. Ever.

There. I feel better now.

Also, I'll add out that Geoff did take out both new Hourman (even Rick for a time) so Rex could show up again in JSA.

I think he's a very talented writer but his dangling subplots on JSA led to me dropping the book. It was getting as bad as later Claremont on X-Men, with no resolution to a bunch of stuff.

This would be my position. I'll be getting zero copies of any spin-offs, along with zero copies of the "event" itself.

After Identity Crisis I won't be investing in any more DC events.

Yeah, I'm not gonna bother either. It's unfortunate for Gail and the rest, as I'm sure that they're all putting out their best efforts for these, but I haven't been one for big "events" since the early 90s.

I'll be avoiding Countdown no matter the price. I figure they may realize how much they're in trouble now post-IC, which is why they made it only a dollar. Sorry DC, but, after those "ten-cent adventures" with Batman, I don't think I'll be taken in so easily by this either.

As for Johns' writing...

If there's anything he let me down with recently, it's the out-of-the-blue rendition of the Turtle in Flash #213, implying that he was a child molestor. YYYEEEEEECCHH! That, to say the least, was totally arbitrary, and out-of-character for a crook who never did things like that before, and was definately never written that way before, ever since he first appeared in the Golden Age. Usually, Johns does seem to have a good understanding of what makes an honorable crook, such as the Rogues are, but with this, he may have achieved his first real record of screwing up.

And then, while it may have been done as a tongue-in-cheek step, his tendency to depict Batman as a jerk was also becoming superfluous. It only ends up causing more damage to the perception of Batman as being a mindless control freak.

Does "get" exclude illicit downloads of pirated media? Hahaha...

Probably the OMAC thing, because any sentient being capable of hacking Oracle's systems (if not Oracle herself) warrants reading. Probably little else, since I don't like to encourage Geoff Johns writing.

Villains United. I'll wait to see if the others are any good.

I'm going to get Villians United and the Rann/Thanagar war. The other two, I'm not so sure about. I might get them just out of curiosity.

I'll just be getting Villians United, mainly because of Gail's writing.

One question though. June's BoP is tied into that OMEC thingy. Will I have to read that series to understand what is going on?

I'm getting OMAC and Villains United, in both cases due to the creative teams. I'm intrigued by Day of Vengeance because of Willingham, but I'll probably wait for the trade on that one.

The only two books I'm getting for certain right now are Countdown and OMAC #1, both because of price. I added the latter to a DCBS order for 63 cents, and as for the former, you can't go wrong with 80 pages for $1.

If I like OMAC #1, I might continue buying it.

VU intrigues me a lot, but because it, like all the rest of these minis, are *so* certain to end up as tpbs, I'm very tempted to wait for the trade. Same goes for Rann. I plan to buy the eventual Adam Strange tpb, and if I dig it, I'll buy the follow-up.

No interest in DoV at all, though.

Interestingly, I was planning on getting the Rann/Thanagar War mini, but now that I know it's tied into IDCrisis in someway?

Not so likely, now.

FWIW I think any tie-in to IC will be minimal. VU sounds like the one most likely to play off the events of IC.

All of these books seem to be just "Where are we now" books.

Villians United will be showing us who all the players on the villianous side of the DCU, and get them organized. It will be resetting and redefining the status quo of the villians.

Day of Vengence will be showing us who all the players on the magical side of the DCU, and get them organized. It will be resetting and redefining the status quo of the DC magic users.

The Rann/Thangar war will be doing the same thing with the major intergalactic empires of the DCU.

So I don't think they will have too much to do with Identity Crisis, except showing what the current DCU is like like post-IC.

I'm getting Villians United (but you all probably knew that already), The OMAC Project, The Rann/Thangar War, and The Return of Donna Troy (assuming that counts as a Coundown spin-off).

Perhaps it's a generational thing. When I started reading comics, Rex was Hourman. I enjoyed seeing him in the annual JLA/JSA crossovers. I saw Rex's son take over for him (not a bad idea), then made a drug addict (bad idea), then replaced by a garishly colored andriod (very bad idea). So to me, going back to either Rex or his son (w/o the drug addict nonsence) is a BIG improvement over the silliness that was created from the proud legacy of Hourman (IMO). If you started reading comics later, and/or the android was the Hourman you knew and loved, I could see how you'd think getting rid of him and going back to some old guy and his son would seem like a wrong move.

Those all sound like titles I'd be interested in at least checking out once for praise or mockery in an AICN Comics review.

Seems to me I read somewhere that Michael Moorcock - who (with Walt Simonson) is doing the sorely-ignored ELRIC prestige-format series from DC - is in some manner involved with DAY OF VENGEANCE... helping come up with a coherent rationale for DCU magic or somesuch.

Does anyone else recall any mention of this?
