Yup, it's being released this June.

But what I want to know is, should I get it? I know it's a Moore piece, which means it has a 95% chance of being mind meltingly good, but does this live up to it's reputation?

Get it. It's a very good, very tight story.
Unfortunately, there is a real life bittersweet part that I'll tell you once you read it.

Gottcha. ;)

And while we're at it, are their any other 2000AD trades I should get? I'm really trying to get into comics from my native country, but so far I only have the one Delvin Waugh trade.

Any recomendations?

Hurm. The old Brian Bolland Judge Dredd stuff is really good, if you can find it. Recommended trades: Judge Dredd Featuring Judge Death, Also Judge Dredd: Emerald Isle, by (who else?) Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon. Grant Morrison has a pretty good one called Book of the Dead, as well.

Other than that, Zenith (also by GM) is great, Lazarus Churchyard (by Warren Ellis) is good, and I heartily recommend any of Morrison's work on Crisis Magazine, particularly "The New Adventures of Hitler" and "Dare." It's nearly impossible to find over here, but it's great stuff.

edit: Oh, and Alan Moore and Alan Davis' Captain Britain trade is really good (publised under Marvel UK and serialized in their mag Daredevils). Once upon a time, you could get reprint editions of early Moore 2KAD work that had art by all kinds of great people like Dave Gibbons and such. They were called Shocking Futures and Twisted Times, I think. Actually, if you find an extra copy of either of those lying around Old Blighty (or wherever you are), PM me and I'll reward you handsomely.

Hope all that helps.

If you're looking for any good british comics, get "The Trigan Empire" by Don Lawrence. Written in the 60's it's about the rise of an Planet spanning empire ruled by one of three brothers. it's kind of how Atlantis is depicted, very advanced civilization, with flying machines and "Heat projectile "weapon's but they all still carry swords and dress like ancient greeks or romans.

I like the sound of this. Is it available in TPB form?

I'll almost certainly be picking up Halo Jones when it comes out.

I was under the impression that Image picked up the publishing rights for Lazarus Churchyard. At Least 'THE FINAL CUT', anyway.

Pick up The Best Of 2000AD which is a massive hardback with over 300 pages and it only costs twenty pounds.

Waterstones are doing a 3 for 2 on graphic novels and I've been buying loads of then recently.

They have a few 2000AD titles and loads of Moore, Morrison and other British writers.

Several reprint books of classic IPC titles like Roy of the Rovers and Eagle have appeared as well as three Tank Girl books.

The Ballad Of Halo Jones features in The Best Of 2000AD which I mentioned in my earlier post.

I'm not sure how much of it is featured but there is quite a lot from what I've read of the book so far.

Man, it's too bad Moore never finished Halo. That ending is so frustrating. It had been brilliant to that point, and you just knew that once she got into deep space it was only going to get better.

I totally agree with that sentiment.

I was fairly ambivalent towards the first two parts. They, in my mind, were clearly very early Moore, and while showing the promise of greatness were not that great themselves.

And then I got to part three. Part three was mind blowingly awesome.

Really? While I do agree that it got better as it went on, the first part was a fairly well done distopia bit (if nothing groundbreaking), while the second had an interesting premise and introduced all the neat characters for the third act.

The first part suffers, for me, due to a trap that all writers seem to fall into at one time or another when writing stories set in the future by making up its own language.

Its probably an accurate intention, but all it does is drag me out of the story and make me wonder what the hell the characters are saying.

I own it because it was given to me as a wedding gift. But I'm kind of "meh" on it.

How does it compare to Captain Britain, for those who have read both? Because I finally got it and read it, and it's very... 80s. Like, very sci-fi 80s movie, ala, Terminator. Didn't care for it at all.
