I'm going through my comic collection, trying to figure out what stuff to keep and what to pass on to another comics lover. I've started with the A's, so I've been rediscovering a number of A-titles, these days. Among them, Kurt Busiek's last Avengers run.

I've enjoyed reading or just flipping through these issues SO MUCH that I've considered purchasing the hardcover. From what I heard, they've only collected these issues in ONE hardcover volume?! I hope the folks at my local comic shop were wrong about this and that there's either another volume out there or one on the way. It just seems to me that if there were another volume or if there were going to BE another, we'd know by now. *insert pitiful fanboy mug here*

So, any thoughts about this run or it's potential hc-dom?

I don't know Marvel's criteria for HC books... EVERYTHING gets a trade though so it is available out there in collected form.

There's another hardcover coming out shortly. This week, I think.

Yep.

AVENGERS ASSEMBLE VOL. 2 HC
Written by Kurt Busiek with Jerry Ordway & John Francis Moore
Penciled by George Pérez with Jerry Ordway, Stewart Immonen & Leonardo Manco
Cover by George Pérez
The European country of Slorenia is dead. Every man, woman and child, eliminated with the cold precision of a machine. And out of the flaming remnants of this tiny Baltic state comes a message from its murderer: Mankind’s days are numbered…because Ultron has returned! He — or it — is one of the Avengers’ oldest, most implacable foes, menacing humanity countless times. But never before has Ultron been this dangerous, this deadly. Now, he stands on the brink of committing global genocide, and rebuilding Earth in his own robotic image. Our only hope is a desperate U.N. strike on Slorenia, led by the Avengers themselves. But will it be in time? Will the strength and courage of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes be enough in the face of such overwhelming evil? For the sake of the world, it will have to be! Plus: When you’re an Avenger, you’re one of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes — the first line of defense against the dangers no conventional foe could halt, the threats no ordinary man could withstand. Threats including Dominex, Lord Templar, Pagan and the Thunderbolts! Collects AVENGERS #12-22, #0 and ANNUAL 1999
March 16 :: 336 pages :: Marvel PSR :: $29.99Pretty much the entire run is also available in trade form.

For what it's worth, I think that run of AVENGERS is the only non-current/non-'60s material being put out in hardcover form right now.

Many thanks, ED. I didn't see it on this week's list from my comic shop or any other list I checked. What was your source? (...or would you have to kill me if you told me?)

I wonder how many his run lasted through. If it's more than 24, I'll have to wait on ANOTHER hardcover to be put out before I can get rid of my individual issues.

Sometimes it pays off to give these things another try.

(...or would you have to kill me if you told me?)That was the solicitation copy. I don't know if it'll actually ship on time (didn't check), but that's what was listed in PREVIEWS.I wonder how many his run lasted through. After that, there's another two years worth of Kurt with Alan Davis, Kieron Dwyer, and a few others.

*marks that in the "good news" column* Thanks.

I don't know how I'll feel about those other runs, but I've thoroughly enjoyed the Busiek/Perez stuff I have in monthlies.

How does the post-Perez stuff compare?

I forgot to come back and mention that I got both hardcovers and LOVE'EM. Thanks.

(Of course, now I've got ANOTHER run o' comics that I'm less likely to part with, but oh well.)

Perez draws a mean Firestar and a REALLY MEAN Ms. Marvel.

There's an unused cover with a chained-in-dungeon Scarlet Witch, that was one of the "extras" in the hardcover. Very nice. Although it did have me wondering if our female heroes oughta be dressed the way they are. The Scarlet Witch's outfit is just a step or two away from Emma Frost's worst (or best, depending) outfit.

It's appealing to the eye, but it does make me pause once in a while.

Wow! I didn't know there were hard cover collections available.
Does anyone think they are worth it? :o

Yes. I've been gushing over them.

Of course, I try to get a nice lil deal on'em. That helps me cost-justify'em.

Good stuff.
