By original do you mean the original team that has been part of DCU continuity for decades? How's that happening?

I think he's really John himself!
On a serious note he goes to Byrne's website and forum... so John likely announced it there

Shadow is right, I don't know anything more than the other forum regulars. The thread is here:

"Terry Austin is inking a couple of issues. Perhaps that will boost sales, as our X-MEN fans scoop up lots of copies just so they can complain that they're "not as good as the old stuff"."

Well, has Mike Allred ever expressed any interest in Doom Patrol?

That's awesome! It's exactly how everyone (except Cliff of course) looked on the island when the original DP sacrificed themselves. This could rival Arcudi's time-travel body-switch two-parter in the hearts of long-time DP fans if done right... and Arcudi did a great job with that story.
This makes me excited about upcoming issues of DOOM PATROL, because it's a chance that the reboot and original could be reconciled in some fashion... even if it's through Hypertime, or just that Cliff went back and time got screwed up when he tried to save Rita. Maybe the whole team got transplanted.
I'd really love to see that somehow Drake, Kupperberg, Morrison, Pollack, and Arcudi's work is still canon in the modern DP though. I enjoyed how they built off of each other.

It's quite funny. not representative, but a very precise cliché of the more typical x-fan (we are x-fans, we know it. -- just check the hatred for morrison's run in the x-board). btw. we rarely nag about the good old times.
we really cheer for byrne's being able to solve the paradox in a wicked way. we believe he did a good job with donna troy (it was an interesting way to deal with her millions of deaths ... ), so we believe he'll be able to fit everything.
we also keep on believing that this DP confusion is related to the new crisis event (it f****-up time,so...)

I believe in an interview once he listed the original Doom Patrol along with Kirby's Fantastic Four and Toth's Fox as inspiration.
And if you read Madman or the Atomics you'd know that Allred has been channelling Doom Patrol. Hell, it's more Doom Patrol than Doom Patrol is at the moment.

This is really funny and pathetic. The quote comes from a thread at Byrne's board about saving his Doom Patrol series. Byrne also took another shot at fans.
So, Darren A. Dew (a long-time who I remember posted at the old Unofficial John Byrne Fan Site when I lurked there) points out that Byrne shouldn't insult fans if he wants their support. Then, the other posters at that board proceed to deride Mr. Dew as if he just said something delusional. Of course, Byrne joined in as well. It was a truly sorry display.
Byrne's attitude doesn't turn fans off from buying his work. I know it's a factor for me.

Mike Allred on DP would be pretty interesting.

"points out that Byrne shouldn't insult fans if he wants their support"
No, Byrne didn't really say that. Some of us asked how we can save Doom Patrol from cancellation, and Byrne replied in a pessimistic way. No one got insulted besides Darren, who hasn't posted there in months.

I haven't posted there in months either... about the time Linda stepped down from moderator and the Cockrum fiasco occured.

I really think this thread has lost its way. Do we really need another debate over Byrne?
I bought the first few issues of Byrne's DP when it first came out, and then I dropped it.
When I went back to re-read them, I found I quite enjoyed them and managed to get a hold of the back issues.
Yes, I am a Byrne-victim, so I will be biased. I enjoyed them. Nice super-hero fare. Liked it a lot better than the JLA series that re-introduced the DP. So maybe I'm not such a victim after all.
