I didn't even want to see that as a comic.

It did have nice covers though. That's about the only good thing I can say for it.

And as much as I love Watchmen and V (which I believe ARE filmable, in the right hands) I have higher hopes for their adaptation than I do for Batman Begins. I've heard a few good things and a whole lotta shaky ones. I don't think I can handle another Batbomb... :(

Neon Genesis Evan ...oh, screw this.

Well, to be fair, all of those, if done right, could have been good.

Howard the Duck needed to be done about a decade and a half later using computer generated animation.

The League needed to go a little less over the top and not bow Connery's ego as much.

Eva: Well, trying to translate it directly will fail. From what little I've seen they at least haven't made that mistake. I don't have great hopes for it to be good, but it's possible, as long as you really only take a few core concepts from the series.

Hell, get Adam Warren to help do it. He managed to successfully merge Eva and the Fantastic Four. And anyone that could make a cross between Shinji Ikari and Ben ****ing Grimm work is a friggin' genius.

Man-Thing... Man-thing just needs to be straight up horror with the twist of the monster ultimately being the protagonist.

That or you use the old "Giant Size Man-Thing" name, totally leave out any connection to the comic and make a porn flik.

Fables is easy.

You do three movies.

The first would be a far more light hearted story using the Rose Red murder mystrey.

Then You do March of The Wooden Soldiers.

Then you finish it with the Fables returning home.

I actually think they could translate it directly, just not slavishly. Explain the story a little better, tone down Rei's sullen lack of character, Asuka's bitchiness and Shiji's...Shinjitude. Not entirely...like do the DCAU version of their personalities.

And it's definatly not gonna be one movie. Nobody would make a movie like that and not think 'FRANCHISE!' That'd be the best way to spread out the story.

No no, you have three films alright, but they go more like this:

First: Jack and the Beanstalk
Second: Jack the Giant Killer
Third: Jack comes to America, beats the devil in a poker game and sleeps with Sleeping Beauty, Snow White and Cinderella.

As a comic reader, I'd rather people discover gems like that in their original medium.

There's no comic I can think of that can't be adapted into a good movie with quality creators behind it. The only ones I'd want to veto are the ones I have no interest in in comic form in the first place. Thor the Movie, Jubilee the movie, Booster Gold the movie, and even then the filmmakers may succeed where the comic creators failed.

You know the chance of getting any movie right is pretty small. I should know I'm working on a crappy one right now.

But I don't think a bad adaptation really can kill the source material. People who aren't going to read Watchmen if the movie sucks probably wouldn't read Watchmen anyway. The last two Spider-man movies were awesome and hasn't helped the comics that much.

Green Lantern: Unless it's a CGI Animated film by Dreamworks, or some other animation company that is good for CGI Animation.

Thor: Looked good as a comic. On the silverscreen it will look cheesy.

Books of Magic: Thanks to Harry Potter I dont see any non-Books of Magic readers taking this film seriously. Think of the publicity once the public get a look at Timothy Hunter.

Exactly. To translate Eva into a movie, you need to downplay the parts that piss everyone off-the sudden plot shifting-without-a-clutch of the final part, the up-play of Asuka as a bitch, Shinji as a needy whiner, and Rei as...well, as Rei.

While the 20 or so zealout fans would protest, you have to tweak it. I agree that Adam Warren's FF manga issue is a great example-you have Shinji as a nonconfidant who, when he gets ticked off becomes their best weapon, Asuka as a show-off, and Rei as the person who shrugs and kicks the angel in the face. You'd have Gendo as the smartest person in the room, because that's his job, and he also happens to be Shinji's deadbeat Dad who didn't even give him a hug after 3 years before tossing him inside the giant robot.

Summing up, if at least for the first film you only acknowledge the Path of Sephirot as Gendo Ikari's messed up idea of area lighting and focus on a) 200 foot tall robots and monsters kicking the spit out of each other and b) teen drama, the movie would work well.

Otherwise, shoehorning questions of faith into an action movie with the heavy handedness of the audience being directly Slapped By God will end up with a crap fest the likes of which we have only seen in the second two Matrix Movies.

And we don't want that.

Aye...however, the problem isn't the first movie, but the inevitable sequels. 'cause like if you look at the first half, it's a very dark and almost depressing show about some seriously flawed characters, but yet the shows still have happy endings and moments of humor, and there's a big 'We can defeat them through teamwork' message, and all the characters have identifyable moments of humanity. Even Gendo.

But then it degenerates into a dramatization of Anno's couch trip, the show becomes darker and the characters become chariacatures of themselves. You could either keep it similar to the Anime or try and develop it in a more positive way. The problem with that, though, is that doing so corrupts the underlying message of "To be human is to suffer. But hey, we can all deal with it together." If the characters start to become more well-adjusted, it weakens the tragedy and suffering.

...and don't get me *started* on the plot...

Actually, aside from Wolverine and Spider-man, this is probably one of the most makeable line-ups in a long time. Almost no one's heard of Sentry, Spider-woman, despite a few other people using the name, hasn't been heard from much, since her cartoon got cancelled. I guess Cap and Iron Man are still in there, but Cap's yet to have a decent movie, and Iron Man keeps falling apart.

Even so, the way studios cross-produce expensive movies these days, a Fox/Sony co-production, allowing the neccesary characters to be in the same film, not to mention actors, is probably more likely than ever.

Cap and Iron Man are at different studios. It's pretty unlikely they are going to share them even if they haven't made a movie. They'd make more money making seperate movies. I think the Luke Cage rights have been sold as well. So basically you got Sentry and Spider-Woman.
