Argh. Why should I even bother typing this out, right? Since no one is going to read it anyways or reads the title. I will waste energy nonetheless.Ah well, talking about great comics is never a waste of energy. And BLOODHOUND is great comics. So here I go ...

What I loved about issue 8:

The explanation of why Clevenger and Bell were brought in on this case. With forensic crime-solving all the rage these days, I never understood why this book didn’t strike a bigger chord with folks.

The dialogue. The snappy one-liners were as great as always, but it’s the clever bits of dialogue I noticed this time around (“She needs one of these collars more than she needs a male role model.” “Ah, I got a sale on, ah, beef jerky…”).

The great character bits. Clevenger deduces that Bell was kidnapped as a child. Clevenger receives a rather … odd … present from his ex-lover. (“At last my hands are complete again” – Does anyone know what play that line came from?)

What I hated about issue 8:

After this, there are only two issues left.

What I loved about issue 9:

The guest art. Actually, I missed Leonard Kirk quite a bit, but Eddy Barrows did a nice job of filling in for this issue.

Clevenger defeating Zeiss in the only way that makes sense with these two characters: in the process of getting his ass kicked bad, Clevenger topples a barn over on Zeiss.

Naked Bell! Honestly, I’m not crazy about seeing such overt sexual tension between Clevenger and Bell, but at this point I’m not going to sweat it.

The reference to Clevenger’s life on the farm, from my favourite issue in the series.

It looks like Jolley won’t be wrapping up any of the uberplots he’s set in motion since the first issue. That’s good. I’d much rather see the series end with just another solid BLOODHOUND story, instead of a sloppy, forced conclusion.

What I hated about issue 9:

After this, there is only one issue left.

Oh, and I think Dave Johnson was slacking off when he drew the cover for this issue:

Just read #8, and loved it! There's a real mystery here.

Moving on to #9 as soon as I can find a copy...

This was by far the best series that DC had put out this last year that didnt have ID in the title.
I to liked the ending of the series, I think Dan and Kirk did a fine job and deserve a big hug.. um i mean.. a new series down the line. :D
Maybe we can see these characters again down the line, eventually.

Yeah, it's a shame more people didn't get on board. BLOODHOUND was a solid, consistently entertaining read. Nothing mindblowing, but easily worth three bucks a month.

Ten issues, same as CHASE.

*sigh*

Ten issues, same as CHASE.

OMG, I just realized this!

Got caught onto the series with #5. GREAT first arc, the story with Firestorm.....meh, decent, and the rest was very good too. In a day and age for me where I just sell stuff off on eBay when it's done, I can honestly say BLOODHOUND is staying right in my collection where it belongs! :)

Man, that was a fine ending for a fine series.

The BLOODHOUND post-mortem:

I'm going to miss this series. A lot of comics these days aspire to be "cinematic," but I think BLOODHOUND was the only one to nail it: relentless action, great dialogue, interesting characters. Dan Jolley and Leonard Kirk had done some good work in the past, but I think this series was where they really came into their own.

I'm thankful that we even got the meagre 10 issues that we did, given how unreceptive fans are to different projects these days. (Memo to fans: you suck.)

But DC could've done a lot more to push this series too. This was a series about a frickin' rogue profiler. How hard would it've been too tie the series into, you know, a top-selling mini-series about super-heroes trying to shakedown the superhero community to solve a mystery? Geez, a one-panel cameo showing Clevenger in a jail cell next to Slipknot in IDENTITY CRISIS #4 probably would've bought BLOODHOUND an extra six issues, easy.

*sigh* But that's spilt milk, I guess.

Edit: Oh yeah, and don't forget to check out Dan Jolley's HELL, MICHIGAN and Leonard Kirk's AMAZING FANTASY. It's the least we can do after they gave us such kick-ass work on BLOODHOUND.

I really appreciate the kind words -- the whole team does. On behalf of myself, Leonard, Robin, Moose and Ivan, thank you. This book was my baby, and I couldn't be more pleased with how it turned out.

Now for some shameless plugs: in addition to Hell, Michigan, I'm also helming the re-launch of "Chastity" from the new Chaos! Comics -- and, more personally, I have a creator-owned series debuting from Speakeasy Comics this winter. It's a Southern Gothic hard-boiled magic-using detective story, called "Sawed-off Mojo." Look for a much more extensive announcement featuring more information and a preview book at the San Diego con.

Hope to see you there.

I know there's talk of Peter David's Fallen Angel moving to a smaller publisher and ignoring ties to DC. Is that a possibility here? The only real tie is the one issue with Firestorm, and I think we can agree to sweep that under the rug in exchange for the possibility of future issues...

There's not much to say about taking Bloodhound anywhere else, at least not for a while. A little further down the road, we'll see what's going on.

I was glad to see Clev survive the final issue. These days, given how chic character death has become, I was worried that'd be the way the series ended.

Thanks for a great book, Dan.

I am still waiting for my issue 10. I am sad that the book was cancelled.

It was an excellent read, good written with good art. And clevenger was a very interesting and cool character. I have enjoyed every single issue.
