View Full Version : Saw the Episode 3 trailer

It was a bootleg that was downloaded from millenniumfalcon.com, so it wasn't the best quality visually, but the sound was great. All I can say is this movie is going to be utterly amazing. Anyone who is a fan of Star Wars is going to be blown away by these 2 and a half minutes.
The most chilling scene is the quick cut of Palpatine charging four Jedi who have come to arrest him. I think he is going to steal the film. And the shots of him fighting Yoda in the Senate are unbelievable.
I cannot wait until May 19.
Just finished watching it myself.
Man it looks good..!
I'm starting to feel the buzz.

Does anyone have a clue as to when during the program the trailer will air? I'm guessing the very end, but it's also possibly right in the middle.

Where's the effort? You tape it, or wait for Lucasfilm to post it like they did with the last two Star Wars movie. I'll check the trailer out when it's up somewhere.

See, that's already more waiting or effort than just opening a torrent a couple of hours after the OC airs. Better quality, no waiting for Apple, no using primitive analog recording equipment, and no watching the OC. Technology is great.

I'd Tivo it if I could, but since I am poverty-stricken, Tivo is a bit past my budget. Besides, I wouldn't want the thing to start thinking I actually like angsty teen drama.
It's not as though the Hyperspace QT that's coming out tomorrow won't be all over the net an hour later. If you've got any kind of savvy you won't have to wait past midnight Friday for a nice, high-quality Quicktime file.

Well I know they wouldn't show it until the end of the show so I just flipped over then. WOW. That baby looks so cool. The effects look the best so far and the fight scenes I think are going to be better then all the other movies combined.
I think this one will make all the young Anikin/Jar Jar crap and all the otehr little missteps of the first two films worth it. This is going to be the payoff in a major way. All that and it is so good to see Chewbacca again.
And once again Lucas makes the opening day my birthday. :D

Still no Grievous. Kind of disappointed in that, yet I'm not all that concerned, given the fact the only background knowledge we'll have of him is from the Clone Wars shorts. I guess they don't want to spoil the surprise, unlike Darth Maul's double-bladed lightsaber (would've been 10x cooler if I hadn't seen that in the trailer).
Really like what I see from McDiarmid, but I still don't buy Hayden's performance. Too much angst, not enough anger (if that makes any sense whatsoever).

He's in there, but very briefly. The far away shot where Obi-Wan is surrounded by droids, Grievous is located on the right side of the screen (Obi-Wan is facing him). Grievous has two of his bodyguards on each side of him. He's also in a quick shot throwing a punch at Obi-Wan. If you notice, Grievous's right foot is gone. Chopped off by a lightsaber?
Actually, I think Hayden is doing a really good job of playing Anakin. I think the emotion he conveys on his face without even saying a word is terrific.

Anyway there's a few decent links popping up. I managed to get a cquicktime file before the Lucasfilm lawyers shut the site. But I'm pretty impressed. Though not crazy about the acting in the beginning of the trailer. But I like the emphasis on Ian McDiarmind who did a great job performing in the last two.
And I was worried there wouldn't be a lot of space ship battles in this one but it seemed to be quite a bit. And like I said before jumping wookees. Can't beat that.
I admire you people's faith....
Tell me has Hayden Christiensen taken any acting lessons since the last film? Because truly he made the last film unwatchable for me. My hair stood on end. I trust me I had been looking forwards to seeing that film.

You've got to see Christiansen's non-STAR WARS films. The man can clearly act, but STAR WARS doesn't afford its actors too many chances to really stretch out with their acting abilities. ROTS might prove the exception, however.

Favorite part: When the jedi go to arrest Palpatine. "Are you threatening, master jedi?" Then he grabs his lightsaber and attacks them. It looks like they are so suprised they peed themselves.

I am getting this sense of melancholy about the end of Star Wars. I'm now a grown man, and I know that I will probably never feel this sense of giddy, childlike excitement for another event.
Yeah, there are the novels, and the games, and the RPG, and the cartoons, and the high likelyhood of some spinoffs in future years, but it will enver be the same.
I'm going to miss Star Wars.

The problem I have with Hayden is that his acting is stiff, when he says his lines, he manages to squeeze the life out of the words he's speaking, I'm always aware that he's trying to act, and doesn't have a naturalness while on camera that better actors have.

Thanks for the comment. And, yep, Captain Trips is the nickname of the super-flu in "The Stand", which is one of my favorite books.
On another note, I thought the quick shot of Grievous fighting Obi-Wan in the trailer showed that Grievous's right foot was missing. Actually, it is there, but it blends in with Obi-Wan's boot because of how they are standing. Not a huge issue, just something I thought I'd mention.

I think they should continue making movies related to Star Wars even if they aren't part of a Trilogy written by Lucas. Why not movies based on certain characters, times, situations, aspects of Star Ways outside of the big storyline. The video games, novels, comics, etc. seem to have done very well with this so why not? If any franchise could pull it off, it would be Star Wars.

Maybe you need to keep positively reinforcing yourself in order to enjoy the movie, but I don't.
OK, let's stop right there. Are you insinuating that I need to brainwash myself into enjoying the next STAR WARS Prequel movie because they are incontrovertibly and factually worthless as movies, and that I only "like" them because I'm a mental slave of George Lucas' who will thoughtlessly like anything he puts out just because he slaps a STAR WARS label on it? I've seen this insinuation made numerous times since THE PHANTOM MENACE was released six years ago, and frankly, it's one of the most disingenuous and plain stupid insinuations I've ever come across. Frankly, I take umbrage every time I see it leveled anew.
I've only demanded one thing from STAR WARS movies: that they entertain me. The Original Trilogy did, and so does the Prequel Trilogy. Are any of the movies flawless works of art? No, but why should I have any expectation that they should be? That's not what I enjoy STAR WARS for.
There has been nothing egregiously wrong enough with the two Prequel films to compromise my enjoyment of them. Honestly, I haven't even perceived enough wrong about them to really justify the endless complaining I've read/heard about them during the past six years. Jar Jar? I wouldn't have missed him if he weren't included in TPM or AOTC, but his presence wasn't enough to ruin either movie for me. Whiny Anakin? No worse than Whiny Luke in the OT. Darth Maul died stupidly and didn't get enough lines? Not something that bothered me much...or at all, really.
I have one fully-developed complaint about TPM, and even that wasn't enough to ruin the film for me: the pod-racing sequence was too long. Shave about three or four minutes off it and it works.
AOTC: some awkward cutting of scenes aside (including what seemed a very truncated duel between Anakin and Dooku), good enough to entertain me. That's all I ask.
Bottom line is I really wish that those who aren't enjoying and can't bring themselves to enjoy the STAR WARS Prequels will stop assuming that such feelings apply (or should apply) to everyone else. I don't like STAR WARS (old or new) because I'm a mindless Lucas zombie; I like STAR WARS films because they're fun.

I'd be all up for a series based on Jedis further down the Skywalker and Solo lines (after Luke, Han and Leia are gone, so no other actor replaces them)....so long as they have R2-D2 (my fave) and C-3P0 as regular characters.

The way I look at it is that everyone has their own tastes and opinions. I like the prequels and that's all that matters to me. If others don't like them, then they don't like them. Just as you, I have heard the same criticisms over and over. For what it's worth, I thought the Anakin/Padme romance worked. I didn't mind that Darth Maul was killed off without being really developed. The name of the movie is "The Phantom Menace." He was supposed to be a mystery. And I never found Jar Jar to be as annoying as most seem to.
There's no point in getting upset over it. I can understand why you do, but it's not worth it. If you enjoy the films, then basically those who don't are missing out. Simple enough.

That's legit, and I don't have a problem with people not liking the movies. I do take offense, however, when I perceive that someone is telling me that I *shouldn't* like the movies because they're obviously worthless and I'm just too much of an idiot/brainwashed by Lucas to realize it. I understand now that that's not what LLIII meant to say, but I have heard other people *really* using that argument before and it's just incredibly offensive to me.

Whoa yeah.
I've had that feeling non-stop ever since I found out that the Ewoks were originally supposed to be Wookiees, escaped slaves from Death Star construction crews reduced to a primitive existence on Endor.
And one of their leaders was were supposed to recognize Chewbacca as an old friend, and Han Solo the guy who busted some Wookiees out of slavery way back when, and thus ally with them, instead of C3P0 being mistaken for a fuggin' god.
And the final battle scene was supposed to be 500+ of Chewbacca's cousins tearing apart Imperial stormtroopers in righteous fury.
... then Lucas decided he wanted to sell plush dolls, and invented the Ewoks instead.

Yeah, there are the novels, and the games, and the RPG, and the cartoons, and the high likelyhood of some spinoffs in future years, but it will enver be the same.
I'm going to miss Star Wars.
Yeah, it's a bummer ain't it.
Enjoy it while it last's.

Only the third straight time? For all intent and purposes, the Ewoks ruined ROTJ for me.
The Ewok's definitely ruined the ROTJ. That or just plain how goofy the Storm Troopers were, getting their asses kicked by the little teddy bears. I think the cloning process went wrong.
Santa, didn't you like episode 2, The Clone Wars?

Hey, they had the Episode III trailer everyone was talking about as one of the trailers before Robots! Boy did it look great. Grevious actually has two blink and you'll miss it cameos in it. And I loved that "Are you threatening me, Master Jedi?" line from Palpatine. For some reason it reminded me of Beavis's Cornholio when he said that.

Y'see, say what you will about the prequels, but DAMN, can Lucasfilm cut some kickass frickin' trailers.
I'm just waiting for someone with too much time on their hands to re-cut all six movies together into one 2 hour long montage of Star Wars greatness that I can watch anytime I need that little endorphin rush that only Star Wars gives me.

Episode 3 "not for children" says Lucas (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/film/4339023.stm)
He told US TV show 60 Minutes that Revenge of the Sith would be the darkest and most violent of the series.
"I don't think I would take a five or six-year-old to this," he told the CBS programme, to be aired on Sunday.
Lucas predicted the film would get a US rating advising parents some scenes may be unsuitable for under-13s. It opens in the UK and US on 19 May.
He said he expected the film would be classified PG-13 - roughly equivalent to a British 12A rating.

Or just 5 foot tall people as Stormtroopers and the Wookies as 6 foot tall. You can get away with a lot if you can't see the actors face. If Lucas really wanted Wookies in ROTJ in 1983 he would have had Wookies.

palpatine asking mace windu if what he just said was a threat, only to pull a red lightsaber out of his sleeve!!!!! holy crap!
wookies, damn hell assed wookies!!! jumping, looking like theyre gonna rip someone a new asshole!
yoda and palpy fighting in the senate chamber!
anakin marching with clone troopers,menacing!
it was amazing,i am gonna love this movie, although im gonna have to see alot of my favourite jedis get killed off horribly,in the trailer it showed one getting a full shot from a clone trooper's blaster, and a couple more getting waisted by anakin's lightsaber antics.

You know that's one of the few things I thnk sort of works storywise in the Prequels. Lucas doesn't make all the Jedi noble. I like the fact that they can be arrogant and short sighted. It makes their downfall more believable then having them just be wiped out by the Emperor and Darth Vader. I think Lucas made the right move there.

I always assumed that Anakin fulfilled his role as "chosen one" in Return of the Jedi when he threw Palpaltine down that shaft in the Death Star. But you could argue that Anakin brought balance in the time Luke was just a boy, because there were two jedi, Yoda and Obi-Wan, and two sith, Darth Vader and Papaltine.
According to Lucas the Force is balanced when all the Dark Side Force users are gone. I can't remember where I read this but its out there some where.
It's kind of like clean air. The Jedi are the light side of the force. Pure air that you can breathe. The dark side (the Sith) are like pollution. The corrupt the air and make it hard to breathe.
Anakin was the only one powerful enough and the only one close enough to the Emperor to be able to kill him. All the Jedi Council knew was that this boy was supposedly going to get rid of the Sith (pollution) someday. They didn't know he'd also basically wipe them out while doing it. They were leary of him. He stood by the Emperor for 25 to 30 years so the Emperor never expected him to turn at the moment he did.
Of course as mentioned above... some people consider a balance to be equal good and equal evil so when Anakin did turn it was 2 to 2. Yoda and Obi-Wan vs Emperor and Vader.
His balance didn't last too long if you follow all the post-ROTJ novels though. :)

Well, technically, Blasters are even older than Lightsabers. It's just that melee weapons of all sorts fell out of use when they developed guns, and the only people good enough with lightsabers to not casually bisect themselves were Jedi.

Donald M.
03-13-2005, 03:57 PM
Exactly. Why would someone use a weapon as likely to take off their own limb as an opponent's when they can just as easily use a gun?
Throughout the original trilogy there appeared only five characters skilled enough in the Force to use a lightsaber effectively, and two of them never do. In the prequels there are hundreds of Jedi and a scatterting of Dark Jedi and Sith, so natually more people are going to be using lightsabers.
As Grant said, only one character in the prequels is known to wield lightsabers without being a Force adept to some degree, and that character is a droid.
Lightsabers are seen as outmoded weapons in the original trilogy because by that time all but the tiniest fraction of a fraction of people who could actually use the damn things are dead.

I don't think I'd take it quite that far, but obviously this trailer is going to have a bigger impact for fans of the series. I seem to be in the minority on these boards, but I am a fan of the prequels and haven't felt let down at all. The first one was good, the second one was better, and from everything I have seen and heard about this one, it is going to be the best.
Watch Episode I in the context of seeing all the movies back to back as one big story. It does a good job of laying the foundation for the series, in my opinion. The Sith have made their presence known after a 1,000 years in hiding, an ambitious Senator with a secret agenda plays all sides against each other to put himself in a position of power, and a young Jedi takes on an apprentice dismissing his mistrust and uncertainty of the boy in lieu of a dying promise and an inner defiance that he can do the job.

Yeah, I guess some of the Jedi characters, like Aayla and Kit Fisto are going to have their popularity work against them in Ep III :( . If they were more obscure maybe they'd slip through the net, and not have their deaths depicted on screen. You could say the same thing about all the Batman fans who are going to see Batman Begins. Of course the core audience is going to have their minds already made up. This is a franchise that is nearly 30 years old.
I think the main point here is that the trailer wasn't just good. It was amazing. The trailers for the other prequels were top-notch, but this one eclipses them. It conveys the idea that this film is bigger and more intense than the others. I know that's why I had such a strong reaction to it.

In the trailer, Anakin's slicing up Neimodians, not Jedi. The editing of the scenes coming AFTER his march into the temple with clones just makes it APPEAR like he's slashing up Jedi, but you'll note his is the only active lightsaber. The Jedi may be lazy enough to get killed en-masse by a bunch of battle droids (see Attack of the Clones), but some'd still be able to light up a weapon before Anakin can bisect them.
As well, we see clones aim their blasters screen right, then a shot of Ki-Adi-Mundi looking off screen-left, then blaster sounds & a white screen... but for all we know those scenes aren't consecutive as shown in the trailer. We don't actually SEE him blasted, but it IS implied. That's all.

yeah on closer inspection i noticed they werent jedi, and that certain scenes had been edited and interwoven, but still the film is gonna be very dark, and cool, which i like, cause episode 1's cutesyness annoyed the pants off of me.

We will see Anakin fighting other Jedi. I don't know how much, but it will be shown when he attacks the Jedi Temple.

In a picture leaked out a few weeks back, there's a scene of Obi-Wan watching a Hologram that shows Anakin fighting the Jedi's Swordmaster (Played by the film's "real" swordmaster, Nick Gillard) and a few other Jedi. Unfortunately, it's a little hard to find...

I can imagine the look on Obi-Wan's face upon viewing the Chosen One in action.

I got the online link for an aol site that was playing the trailer. I'll be including the link in my column for this Tuesday.
I saw the teaser trailer that's in the theater on Friday night, and it looked rather crappy, but the full length trailer is awesome.

I just watched the trailer. I was underwhelmed by the first two prequels, but after watching the trailer, I'm pretty hopeful about this one. I mean, I don't think it'll be as good as the originals (the bits of dialogue weren't fantastic old school stuff), but it seems promising. Too bad the last film will probably be a downer with all those folks getting killed.
