First, the preview is up here:

*SPOILERS*
So... page 3 really worries me. I actually haven't read a comic with Cassie Lang in it, but I always assumed she was really young. This comic shows her as a teenager. I have no idea what age she should be, does her appearance make sense or is this a massive continuity blunder? Not like I care if it is, but I figure that continuity nuts will whine about this appearance.
Other than that, the issue looks cool. We'll get an explanation for how Iron Lad is really Kang, and possibly a new member! Next week is gonna be huge, with this, Cap #4, NA #4, and Ultimates 2 #4. Can't wait.

I think her most recent appearance (in Geoff Johns AVENGERS) had her in her teens, but I'm not 100% on that.
Not that I care one way or the other, of course. Comic time is nothing if not fluid.

I think she is like 14/15 years old, have not read the preview yet, I like to wait to the Issues hit the stands.

Finally... got another preview working
Seems pretty cool. I hope she trys to get a place on the team for a while... I'd rather then concentrate on who they have already and where they come from before making the team even bigger.

Two things. One, you age off panel. Hence, Franklin is still 6, and Power Pack is older. Two, she was at least old enough in Fantastic Four for Kristoff to have a crush on her. And that was a while ago.
Love that last page though.

Yep, very cool!!!

that seemed decent and i thought i wouldnt like this comic.
cassie seemed like she was 12-13 in johns's run on the avengers, so this doesn't seem to far off. and as for her carrying on her dad's legacy -- good. it makes sense seeing as they were close and she loved and respected her dad, and ants. and marvel always needs an ant-man, and since i really doubt that scott lang will ever be ressurected (:(), an ant-girl is the next best thing.
and yeah, the whole 4th page was good, with some funny dialogue.

actually i'd like her to be her "own superhero" and be more than the ant's successor , said in another way , i'd like her to be something else than ant-girl . Still if they make her ant-girl , no real prob here , i'll live with it .

this issue looks damn good, i'm very excited about this issue...having said so, i got a real problem with Cassie's line "no, I'm gonna BE a Young Avenger." that kinda struck me as a little, bratty...maybe it's just me, but didn't it kinda sound like she thought it was coming to her, like it was supposed to just have been given to her on a silver platter? i think being on any team like the Avengers or, maybe, the YA, has got to be earned....or maybe I just read it wrong and i'm blowin nothin but hot air lol

Maybe Cassie feels like she is entitled to a position based on her Father's legacy, and if what one poster on comicboards' says is true
Then Cassie will be demonstrating some unexpected powers, when becoming visibly angry outside the Mansion when denied entry to get her father's gear, she grew to gigantic proportions
No matter what, I hope Cassie is part of the team. Before the comic came out I wasn't sure what I'd think about the Young Avengers, but now I want Cassie in, and I'm curious about Kate Bishop.

I hope that's true since that sounds awesome. Maybe Scott doused her with Pym particles for her protection just in case she's in any danger.
I wonder where they'll hang out, hopefully not at the abandoned mansion, even the Teen Titans have a great crash pad. Kate is looking like she'll be involved in the book regularly too but that could change, 2 more female members please!
Awesome preview, next week is indeed looking great.

I wasn't going to pick up this book until trade because of serious fianacial issues. But after this..... WOW  . I read most of one online, but 2 looks absolutly awesome. Giant-Girl: Cassie Lang and spoiled rich girl(whomever that produces) are what the team needed.
Honestly this book just has that feel like something fresh, and it gets me excited. Sure I laughed my ass off over J.L.A Classified #4, Ashtonishing shocked the hell out of me, but Young Avengers just seems like it has so much potential. That and it comes out on time, so far. I sorta figured that a new Giant/Ant/Goliath dude would be stepping in.
When Patriot's standing in front of the Avengers statue in #1, the only Avenger shown who has not yet been Youngenized was Giant Man, IIRC.

I didn't even think it was possible to male Sammy cooler.
There was a joke in X Men. When Sammy said he was thinking about using the name "Sub Mariner", Jay said "Isn't that taken?" To which Sammy replied "Not that I know of." But you probably already knew that.
I didn't realize before, but the prospect of Cassie Lang as Ant-Girl (or whatever) would be spectacular. That would cement YA as a must-buy for me.

Add one more, totalling three, who can confirm the Cassie spoiler. Here is another doozey!
In addition to Cassie Lang growing to giant-size at the end of the issue, we also see a connection many predicted, Iron Man is connected somehow to Vision. I don't know exactly how, but I did flip through the preview copy, and I don't think it is totally answered in issue 2, but when Kang is explaining to Iron Man, Cap and Jessica Jones how he ended up where he is now he said he tried to get Tony Stark's attention but was brushed off as a passer-by, and he went to find someone who would help, and he found the Vision, it shows him hooking up his armor in a flashback to Vision's remains in the crate from the Avengers Disassembled that was shown shipping Vision to Stark Labs.
Thought some of you might like to know.

Actually not to offend any Clint fans out there - but I always thought, what with Hawkeye and the Swordsman not having any powers as such, just ability with weapons (a lot of ability, yes) that their identities could be easily inherited. It wouldn't be the same superhero, but you could have another Hawkeye (like there were other Green Arrows and even in the 70's you had Clint becoming Giant Man briefly). I mean there already is a new Swordsman (twenty years later).

Well, I dont get any of those books, but thats not really surprising. I am picking up more and more things in trade, because I find a lot of things just read better that way. The only monthlies I get right now are: Flash, Green Lantern, Superman/Batman and maybe Hulk or Captain America. I really want at least one Marvel monthly, but I already get AXM, Supreme Power by trade and I haven caught up on Ultimates so chances are that will be trade-only too.
So, Hulk is pretty good so far but not automatic, Cap was surprisingly underwhelming for me even though I wanted to like it, and that leaves what?

I guess weeks would be slow if you only collect in trades. Usually I pick books up weekly so I can discuss the books upon release. Most books do read better when collected but I don't have as much patience for the stuff I want to purchase immediately. I was thinking about just selling some books and get the trades for them to save some space because my room is really getting crowded with books and me having to worry about them spilling over and getting damaged which sucks.
Yeah, and NA #4 was on that list too, until it got pushed back a week...

New Avengers? you know you love it... :)
I dont dislike the book at all, even though I love to take jabs at it(just for you Jake!). However, after reading the first issue and skimming the second, I found the pacing a tad slow. For this reason, that book will probably go on my list of "get in trades" books, next to the ones I mentioned previously. To me, Bendis just seems to write these things deliberately for the trade format, so I figure I might as wel oblige. :)
However, let me say that, because of my overall fondness for the Avengers in all their incarnations, it wouldnt take much for me to pick it up monthly. After all, I have bought three issues of Cap and two issues of Hulk in the last two weeks, and only because I had nothing new to read, so picking up the two issues of NA that I have missed it not totally out of the question.

Yeah, I know it doesnt seem like a lot, but theres just always minis out there, like Strange, Secret War, Earth's Mightiest Heroes etc... that always push the count up. Plus, slow weeks just mean more money to catch up on good stuff I have missed like Flash and Ultimates trades.

I hope you don't do another "It's good but not for me" type thing :P
Just noticed that post by Will. Hey man, at least I gave Cap a chance, nobody can say that I didnt. I bought three issues, fully intending to be impressed, and in the end it just didnt do anything for me. I tend to like classic superhero books, those are just my tastes, and the new Cap is more realistic and relevant to the real world. These are not bad things by any means, but they arent things which get me to buy a book.

Hey, I bought the first two issues today, great stuff. My criteria for liking a comic is simple: it has to be fun, and YA definetly fits the bill. The dialogue was crisp and funny, and the artwork was also very nice. It really makes you want the next issue to find out what the deal is with all of them.

There are two bitch schools of thought on the gay thing. One is people bitching when established characters are made gay. Thing is, this has never really happened, outside of, kinda sorta, Rawhide Kid. Northstar, sure, but I don't think anyone was ever arguing his heterosexuality.
The other is people bitching about characters being shoehorned into books because they are gay and it leaves a message. Ironically, Hulkling would sort of combine both of those.
Then again, I can't think of anyone who bitched about UColossus being gay.

Well, Grant Morrison tried it with Beast also. But it didn't go over well with the fan community, not because he was saying he was gay. But because established canon never even hinted at the fact that Hank was possibly gay or even bi. Thankfully it was 'retconned/revealed' to be Hank trying to hurt Trish. And then going with the lie to open the minds of the public.
And check the X-Books forums. There's a few vocal people about Ultimate Colossus being gay. But they argue it's destroying the character, which doesn't really make sense since he's not the 616 Colossus. I don't see Hulkling or Asgardian causing anywhere near as much anger if one or the both of them are gay. :)

whoa i am really feeling blown away by this book. every part is real cool and jim cheung's art is just AWESOME!
i like the similarities to young justice.. starting out boys only and adding girls. (plus let's face it, they're teenage versions of their adult counterparts, sort of)
i liked the iron lad origin piece.. the part where he's with the vision is real powerful! cassie rocks! i've always liked her but now she's cooler. i wish she wasn't another 'growing' character though. great effect leading to the last page.. where we see her getting more and more intense and at first it looks like the shot is just getting closer to her face, but then we learn she's actually grown bigger.. wonder if this could be credited to Heinberg coming from tv and knowing how to work the camera..

It is something that has been rather hotly debated after #1 came out. Some people sensed something of a gay vibe from the scene between them in #1, due to something in the dialogue or the art or both.
Others just don't get that impression from it at all, and say that people are reading way too much into it.
There really isn't anything factual to point at--it is just a sense or impression some people are getting; either you feel it or you don't. Either way, there just isn't enough to say for sure either way yet (although the letters page comments sorta kind hint that there may be something...)

I agree about most of what you said. For me, it isn't something I got an impression of from reading issue 1, but I don't think that it is unreasonable to get that vibe. From the letters page comments, while a homosexual character in the book seems quite possible, I do not think it points to Asgardian and Hulkling at all (though, I can see how it would lend credibility if one already did have that impression.)
I don't mind well written characters of any sort, and I enjoy positive role models and realistic personalities across a diverse spectrum. There needs to be more gay heroes and villains, frankly, because right now there just aren't very many.
Somebody post a scan of that page in #1 so we can see.

Is it possible that Kang is going to fail in his mission to stop his older self since he fought the Avengers in their past?
It's possible but not for that reason. Kang doesn't change time, he can only create alternate timelines, which is what he did by stepping in to help Iron Lad. Thus Iron Lad and Kang are now effectively seperate beings.
I think Kang is up to something with that. Otherwise he's being incredibly stupid.
He interferes with Kang Jr's life before the defining moment that sets him on the path of villainy. And he has to know that, because he pretty much brought it up.
Now I'm not sure what he's planning, but there's more to this than would appear.
...unless of course Iron Lad is lying.

Well, Hulkling isn't exactly running around in purple pants and no shirt either.
But, y'know, I guess a tiny bit of metallic cleavage isn't really enough to go on, costume wise. I guess all it really proves is that Kate isn't going to just be the money.

The woman in the right corner looks JUST like Jewel, with the hint of the costume being the same as Jessica's, and the purplish tint to her hair. I think, for whatever reason, it is Jessica back in costume again. I know she's preggers, but it is just what it looks like to me. Also, the girl with flat black hair looks much younger than the purple-tinted haired girl, who has more wrinkles in her brow, IMHO. Huh, anyone agree? Given that we're dealing with time-travellers, that image doesn't necessarily mean that Jessica is back in costume--it could be an image from a time period when she was Jewel.

Hulkling shows up twice, why not Kate?
Well, that doesn't have any bearing on the fact that the face looks older, and the hair has highlights that look purple and Kate has had none. Also, Cap and Iron Man are there, so it would make sense Jessica would be too. You're right, Cap and Hulkling at least show up twice, very true, but I think it is Jessica at the top. Hey, I just thought, I know she wasn't an Avenger, but maybe Kate will be inspired by Jewel rather than a founder or Avengers veteran... Anythings possible. As it is though, given what we're seeing of the cover at this resolution, I stand by my earlier assumptions/theory/guess.

If Dermie agrees, c'mon, how can I be wrong? ;) Good point about the time travel (and not just because it lends creedence to my theory). If the cover is any indication, I think that Iron Lad is somewhat on the level. Others have suggested that he may be less than truthful with the Avengers crew, but I'm thinking he's being honest, at this point. Of course, that could easily change quickly.

You might be on to something there. Kate as Jewel II?
I rechecked, the top imae on the cover IS Jewel. I agree that it's unlikely for Jess to get into costume and fight while pregnant and even if Luke doesn't know, Cap will and he wouldn't be happy either. However, what if Kang attacks her? We've seen how she reacts to people who threaten her baby.

No, she even mentions climbing the gate, she asks Cassie if they need to hop the fence and Cassie then tries her codes, and can't get in. She then later says she doesn't have powers. I think it is most definitely a strange notion that she didn't climb, given the dialogue between Kate and Cassie on that page, and Kate and the boys a few pages later.

I dunno. I, too, thought it odd that she was on one side of the fence one second and on the other the next. It's about the way they showed it. Certainly, she could have just hopped over, but it was a clumsy way to show it, if so. Or, there could be something hidden meant. Guess only time will tell.

You know, I just re-read that scene out of curiosity, and I think the one panel before we see Kate on the other side is somewhat telling. It looks like the bottom of her coat or skirt in the panel. Did Kate fly over? Like Dox says, we'll see, but I somehow don't think she merely climbed over. Hard to tell the way the scene is written, but wouldn't have Cassie noticed if the gate started shaking when Kate climbed over it. I think she either fly over the top or walked through it.

She didn't phase, she clearly went over the fence. And flight would be too convenient, I think the composition is just from Heinberg's TV background, where showing her climbing might not be as funny as seeing Cassie trying to use the keypad while Kate climbs over quickly. There's an episode of Buffy where I recall Whedon using that trick to show SMG getting over a fence.
Cass being focused on the pad may be why she didn't notice Kate climbing very quickly.

I heard a rumour that there's going to be a new "Hawkey," who will be a girl. I theorized that, given they're dealing with Kang, she's the time-displaced daughter of Hawkeye and Mockingbird, but who knows?

i doubt they will use that "many" time displaced characters . If there is indeed an hawkey girl in YA , its more likely to be Kate , she definitely seem to be trying to join the group , and with the gang among the ruins of the Mansion , there are quite some chances to find some hawkeye gears and ammo :D .
The whole "you got no powers" kind of lines are unlikely innocent .

Considering her last name, and rumors of what is happening in House of M, there's a possibility you could just call her Bishop without any confusion...

Who's Kate? Do you mean Cassie? I think she's the new Goliath, Giant Girl, Ant Girl, or GiAnt Girl, or something like that. What I was referring to, is a new Hawkeye. Why would the new Hawkeye have growth powers? That doesn't make sense to me.

Kate is the girl with Cassie, the one who doesnt have powers as far as we know. She would be the one we are talking about.

What about Giantess for Cassie, it's kind of inkeeping for the other YA names. I wonder if she'll remember to pick up her dads stingers and shrinking/ant communication helmet equipment. Maybe a new female Yellowjacket?

My thought on Cassies powers is the old "abient Pym particles and 'Marvel Brand Magic Ions' from her dad/living in avengers mansion collcted in Cassie over the years and gave her powers" If the non powered loved one of a super hero suddenly develops powers thats usualy how it happens.
Also I have an alternate Theory on Hulkling and Asgardians relationship: first Hulkling is a guy. Second on their 'chuminess' they've both shown signs of being 'super hero fan boys' right? well I think they possibly knew each other before getting their powers, and they realize that they've really lucked out and fallen ass backwards into being super heros and they're really excited. Patriot and Iron Lad of course don't see things the same way they're both more serious so to Hulkling and Asgardian its sort of become a private joke and they're having alot of fun playing their little rolls.
Of course that doesn't preclude them from being gay as well...

For whatever it's worth, I talked to Allan Heinberg at Wizardworld, both Hulkling and Asgardian are guys. I told him I actually didn't want to know if there was any relationship going there, because I like to be surprised when it happens in the book. Really nice guy, seemed very in awe of the attention he was getting.

Nope. In fact, I didn't even ask him about the male/female thing, I was just talking to him about how well the book was being received, and he offered that part. After that, I told him I liked to be surprised.

While a hispanic would better transition into the Captain Americas mentioned in the future in this week's Runaways, Patriot has yet to say one word in Spanish, therefore no comic writer would make him hispanic.
Nor has he busted out ninja moves, or anything like that.
Based on the cliches and the fact that this writer is from the WB (the entire network has maybe 3 Asians on it, no hispanics, and is almost predominantly white with the odd African American thrown in, he'd probably be black (is it just me, or is a strong matriarch the cliche for black comic families?)
EDIT: Oh, wait, OC is Fox, isn't it? Nevermind.

Doesn't "Middle Eastern Patriot" sound a bit too much like an after school special to you?
I agree that the "shock" value of it would make it more likely that he does turn out to be middle eastern.

Marvel Time do passes fast for some characters and slow for others. In Heroes for hire just a couple of years back , Cassie was looking like what ? 7-8 years old at best , now she's suddenly 15 and looking pretty mature ?
How far in the future is the M2 universe since Cassie is still pretty young there and is going by the superhero name of "Stinger". What's next , Kevin Masterton , Eric Masterton's son is now also 15 and looking to be a superhero to honor his dad and join young avengers ?

This is a common misconception. She COULDN'T have been 7, or 8 in Heroes for Hire. She was 9 in her FIRST appearance, in over 20 years ago. She was portrayed as a preteen, about 11 or 12, in her mid ninties appearances in the Fantastic Four. Basically, Allan Heinberg has the unfortunate response directed towards his own, accurate writing, due to the mistakes in the Heroes for Hire series and Cassie's recent Avengers appearances. Also, in general aging in comics is massively screwed up. A sidenote, MC-2 isn't in continuity, and has no bearing on the mainstream Marvel universe.
And I forgot in my first post, she ISN'T 15, she specifically says she will be turning 15, and is therefore 14, having aged roughly 5 years in the past 25.

Well, I just wanted to say a few things. First of all, I think that the person they mentioned getting killed in issue five is going to be one of the two following, Jessica Jones a.k.a. jewel a.k.a. Knightress, or Kang the older. Why? Because it can always be an alternate.
as far as the Kate Bishop thing goes, I kinda see the young hawkeye thing, but not quite. I see her as more of an all around weapons user if any at all. She might as some people predicted become Jewel II especially if they kill off Jessica Jones in this issue. I realize they've been building jessica up for a while now, and they usually reserve such things for finale's, but I just kind of see it as a major possibility.
As for the cassie and kate being in the team, i say both are probably a definite, but I doubt it will be completely resolved till Issue five or issue six. Basically right at the eend or after the sidekicks arc. Personally for her name I'd like to see Kate go with something like Rook, or maybe if you want to keep it in the same vain as the other names, something like Young Hawk, or if she goes with the Jewel thing Knight Lass.
As for cassie, I see her doing the Hank Pym thing and switching names as time goes by..but hey thats just me. Though i kinda hope they just have cover the whole size angle and be able to do small as well as big.
Lastly, I think there are likely going to be 2 more members after Cassie and Kate, I dont know who they will be, but I think its a fair bet to say there will be.

I've been thinking this for awhile now. I think he's going to end up being the grandson of the character in Truth. His Grandmother that he mentions in issue 1 has been telling him stories about his Grandfather since he was a kid and he decided to follow in his foot steps.
That's my guess atleast
Also, he uses throwing starts as in the "Stars on the American Flag"

Uh, they can't kill Jessica. She's in New Avengers which takes place after this arc, and is heavily pregnant there. Also, The Pulse, and Bendis wouldn't allow it and he does have some clout with Joey Q.

The bits and pieces I've seen of Young Avengers have it looking better than I thought it would. Does anyone know if the first 6 to 8 issues or so will be coming out in Trade?

There is a Truth-related character, and he was a star in the Crew series. I highly doubt they'll redo the same concept as grandson rather than son, but that is just me. Plus, a grandson would likely live with Sarah Gail, the daughter of Isaiah (the main character in the Truth) than with his Grandma, because well, they've said that Sarah Gail is alive and has her kids (who know their Traumatic Brain Injured Grandfather, also revealed in the Truth mini).
Interesting guess, but it doesn't seem likely, and I think it'd take away from the very interesting Josiah X character.

Quick thought on Patriots identity: I think its telling that his costume looks more like Bucky than Cap, and that it was actualy pointed out in the book, I wouldn't be surprised if he turned out that he is purposfully emulating Bucky and not Captain America.

I'm thinking he's Bucky's great nephew or something... making his Grandma (he lives with her) Bucky's sister.
He could of grown up hearing about Bucky and dreaming of being just like him.
