Okay, here's the thing.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE JUDGES THIS TIME?

All right, yes, he looks like a piggy guy, a little, and he has the brains and charisma of a swamp rat, but that Scott guy can SING.

That off-melody stuff he does is a hundred times more complicated than the shouting vibrato glory notes of the other guys. He's good enough to stand (as a vocalist) with the big boys of classic Motown, and I don't say that lightly. He's a FREAK of talent. He shouldn't even be on the same stage with some of these people.

Yet, one after another, the judges act like he's 'got a nice voice.'

What the hell? Never have I been so irritated by this show. Maybe they think he's too unappealing to progress, but he's absolutely one of the best singers the show has had, period, and his stuff is almost like jazz in its complexity.

They they give raves to some doofus who dances well.

What the hell?

I thought the same thing. He's beyond their comprehension. And it really seems like a natural gift for him not something he has to work at. He at least doesn't sound over rehearsed like the others and has an ear that works outside of the confines a songs previous incarnation. He to me is the ONLY one that should hear the words "You made it your own, dawg" because he's the only one sparking orginality.

and when he spoke about his Dad...good TV that was!

I want a little bit more psychotic Scott though...cause I think if he gets quirky again he will definite get the FREAK vote....

I think he's at least top 5 overall.....

and no women are even close this year....none!

From what I've seen, Scott's downfall may be his lack of personality. He seems to lack charisma. Then again, I didn't see the show last night.

I hope that Bo Bice wins though. I want a hippy rocker to win this thing for once.

We're a bit behind in this series, so I can't comment on current events.

However, I followed last years American Idol from start to finish and there was so many " What tha fuck !? " moments by the judges, I'm buggered if I can work out what's going through their minds.

Vocal talent alone just doesn't seem to cut it.

People, it's a show about creating "idols".
They choose who they want. that's the end.
Whoever they can sell is who's gonna win.

Unfortunatly, that was all about whether she'd change her appearance the next time they saw her. Since she didn't, they didn't think twice and let her go. Maybe she'll come back next time.

It isn't Pigboy's lack of charisma or personality that's so off-putting. It's the vaguely arrogan and non-too-bright vibe that he gives off. All in all, he strikes me as the type of person that one wishes somebody would smack in the face with a shovel.

The one who really needs the shovel to the face, though, is that woman who sounds like Fran Drescher playing Barbra Streisand circa 1974. Gawd, her schtick is annoying.

At my house, the smart money is on Anwar, though I kinda back Anthony and Constantine. A few of the girls are good, but it's really the guys' game this year.

i know what you mean dude. she did one bad song and she got the boot.

f'real i have no idea how that teenie bop blonde guy has lasted so long. and constatine has been such a disapointment in round 2. he's sung nothing to his potential.

i think we need to watch out for lindsay though. she might do something incredible with that voice of hers.

You know how Gladys Knight nicknamed Ruben Studdard "the Velvet Teddybear" and it stuck?
I think Scott Savol from this season should be nicknamed "the Silk Hogzilla!"

That was horrible

I noticed that while the judges kept egging Mikalah Gordon to "be more whacky," other contestants - Fonzell Solomon, for ex. - are borrowing her showboating shctick. I believe her low-key/flat performances are coming from bad advice from vocal coaches backstage.

Well, she's gone. I was surprised to read Nadia was in the bottom 3.

I think many people agree that Anwar needs a "fun" song to broaden his appeal.

What would be your suggestions? Here are a few of mine:

1. Working in a coal mine by Lee Dorsey
Workin' in a coal mine, going down down down, working in a coal mine oops! about to slip... Done right, this song actually requires quite a range and quick changes. Could be a good fit.

2. 99 Luftballons by Nena sung completely in German. The judges would be stunned! Well, it beats the heck out of "Rock me Amadeus" by Falco....

3. It's Raining Men by the Weather Girls.
4. Shaddap You Face by Joe Dolce

Nadia did a Cyndi Lauper song !?

Why do so many of the contestants in the last 4 seasons decide to cut their own throat doing '80s pop shit ?

the4thpip
03-26-2005, 12:18 AM
Um... "Time after Time" isn't exactly "80s pop shit."
It has been covered by some of the greatest names in Jazz music, including Miles Davis, Cassandra Wilson and Tuck&Patti.

I thiknk Nadia's main error was that she sang an up-tempo arrangement of it that was even faster than Cindy's. She should have gone for the Cassandra Wilson version and people would have loved it.

I only catch glances of this when my parents are watching it, but of the 1 contestant I've seen, I like Bo. Could be that I'm more in to rock than pop, or that he's the 1 contestant I've bothered to watch, but hey, I like him.

This show went in the crapper the minute Aloha was voted off. She was better than everyone (male or female) that's made it into the final twelve.
And just because I'm sorta weird I was hoping Mikalah would last a bit longer. She did such awful things to songs that it was fascinating to watch.

I think at this point, each of the contestants is still one horrible song choice away from elimination. Just when you think somebody's on the road to win this thing, they might do a Smurfs song or something.

The '80s should be completely off limits.

Plus, according to the folks at The Smoking Gun (http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/0331051_american_idol_scott_1.html), he has a less than ideal criminal record.

While I've thought Scott sounded good in previous weeks, I agreed with Randy and Simon that Scott was really off-key last night. In fact, he sounded so off that I'm forced to wonder whether Paula a) lied when she said she didn't notice, or b) has lost her sense of pitch.

I liked Scott in the past, but with "One Last Cry" he took a bad song and made it horrible. He didn't get into the melody or hit a note until the final two lines.

But Anwar was way below his abilities, too.

They really shouldn't be allowed to pick their own songs. Let the judges do it or the producers but the contestants should never pick their won songs because they usually don't help themselves with their choices.

I can't agree. If anyone else chooses the songs, there will be accusations of rigging the contest, giving certain people better songs, and setting up a blame structure when something doesn't go their way. Plus, it could end up limiting the performer to a certain type of song. I say let them sink or swim all on thier own. A true performer can make any song a worthy performance. Bo isn't the greatest singer by far, but damned if he doesn't look like a pro every time he goes out there.

I think that already happened two seasons ago when they drew songs out of a hat. People said it was rigged that Kim got a song she had done before, Band of Gold.

I'll tell you what, though.

Fantasia come on and sang tonight and HOLY SHIT she could not have said more clearly, "This is MY stage, and you guys are not in my league," if she'd written it in blood on this year's contestants' foreheads. She tore that crappy song to pieces with sheer muscle, talent and charisma. Wow.

Reminded me how when they say, every year, "this is the best talent we've had yet," they're usually lying.
