Upcoming issues of NEW AVENGERS will feature cover art by classic artists. #7 is by Dave Cockrum, #8 by John Romita, and # 9 by............................MARIE SEVERIN!

Sal Buscema also contributes some interior art to # 7.

Apologies if this is a double post. I posted this earlier, but can't seem to see it.

You couldn't pay me to read this series, but I'm glad that these classic artists are getting some work.

My sentiments exactly.

Can someone give a quick synopsis of this series.

I assumed it's something straight out of Retcon Hell.

Here's the quote form the news source:

"Continuing the Silver Age theme of the arc, issue #7 will contain a sequence by Sal Buscema....."

So I wouldn't count on too many pages.

Shall I be paying $2.95 (or, rather, £1.95) for one page of Jazzy Johnny art?

I rather think not.

Not trying to kick up any dust, but I'm honestly interested in why you fellow posters would "have to be paid" to read this book? I think it's pretty darned good.

What a shocker!
Bendis Bashing....

Anyway...I love Sal, and even if he drew one panel, I would still get the book, just for his panel.
And in any case, I love The New Avengers.
It's adrn good read, IMO.

Re-reading the article, they call the Silver Age artist covers, "alternate" covers." I think (not sure) this may be another way of saying "variant." If this is true, they'll eventually cost you even more.

Not worth it to me.

I read the first two. Just not my cup of tea. Not much of modern Marvel (or DC) is, but that's just one man's opinion.

On the plus side, I can now unload my copies of SENTRY.

Can someone give a quick synopsis of this series.Following the breakup of the Avengers, there's a riot in a superhero prison and the heroes who show up to stop it decide to restart the team as the New Avengers. The roster is Spider-Man, Spider-Woman, Luke Cage, Captain America, and Iron Man, with The Sentry, Wolverine, and a "mystery member" (probably Daredevil) scheduled to join up at some point.I assumed it's something straight out of Retcon Hell.Sort of. The whole Scarlet Witch thing from the last few issues of AVENGERS is some of the worst retconning in recent memory, but this series hasn't dealt with it too much.

That said, the storyline that these three will be providing covers for is about The Sentry, a retconned-in character from the Paul Jenkins/Jae Lee mini-series of few years back. I have no idea if this storyline will be any good, but I really enjoyed the original mini, retcons and all.

Not Bendis bashing, I don't care for the art either.

Can I ask you how long you've read Bendis' work? I've been reading his stuff since he was writing JINX and AKA GOLDFISH (two series I really like). I also liked the early issues of POWERS, until he started writing for the trades.

And there is the reason I haven't liked much of his Marvel work----------it's written for the trades. Too much padding. He's not alone in this, but he's one of the worst offenders.

Again, it's just my opinion. If you like his stuff, by all means read it. Comics need all the support they can get.

SIR TIM:

If this is getting too off topic (like if the whole thread becomes a Bendis thread), by all means move it to the Marvel board.

You hate a book you haven't read?

It's actually a pretty good read. Finch's art is great in it and the story so far is pretty good. I haven't seen any retcon'ing yet.

The thing I like about New Avengers is how it got rid of all that official-government-clearance stuff that had been building up in the past to the point where the Avengers had acquired UN recognition, their own flag, etc. Too much. So, New Avengers has Cap and Iron Man starting over fresh with a few super-folks who happened to be around during the prison-riot. Plus we get the return of the original Spider-Woman.

It's great that Dave Cockrum is now doing well enough to be doing some drawing again, and that Marvel gave him some work.....

It's actually a pretty good read. Finch's art is great in it and the story so far is pretty good. I haven't seen any retcon'ing yet.Actually, Finch is the worst artist to EVER take over the reins of the Avengers, as his stuff is muddy, dark, and muddled. The man has NO grasp of the human anatomy. Have you managed a gander at his latest Spiderwoman cover? What are we looking at? A contortionist? Blah. His stuff has that Image-y, late 90's look that makes me cringe every time I see it.
