The original cover of the oni press Jenny were one of my favorite mignola pieces. And as much as I'm thrilled about the atomeka resurecting Jenny Finn... New mignola covers are... Dissapointing. Maybe it's just me but i don't really like'em... :(

I think Mignola did 4 covers for the Oni Press version. Are they collected too ?

I picked this up yesterday without having heard about it before. Needless to say it was freaking awesome. The closest I've come to being truly creeped out by a comic.
So I guess the conclusion comes out next month? I need more Prime Minister.

I am soooooooooooooooooooooo glad I ran into this thread yesterday evening. As soon as I read about it, and saw that someone had already picked it up, then I knew it must be in stores and with it being 'new comic book day' I dashed off to my LCS faster than you can say "lobster johnson".
My efforts paid off as I was the last person to snag their final copy on the new releases shelf. Read it last night, and MAN do I love it. Heavy on the lovecraftian overtones and set in the victorian era, you cant really beat reading about a prostitute born from the bowels of some Deep One lurking at the bottom of the sea. The interior artwork is totally awesome, and I really like where the story is going. I was sort of hoping that there would be more concept art inside (perhaps the origional covers mignola drew for the single issues) but apparently there is to be more concept/unused art in the follow-up book due to be released some time in May.
Thanks again fellow hellboarders! Once again you have informed me of yet another illustrative treasure, and in this case, just in time before it was nabbed by some other comic shop lurker. Cant wait for the finale!

Good to see you're looking out for us Khan, though the link's been posted a couple times on the thread already. If you havent picked it up yet (dont know how soon comics are on the stands in poland), but you DEFINITLY should snag a copy (even if you own the single issues). The printing quality is top notch and theres some nice concept art in the back of the book.
Myself, I cant wait for may to rear its beautiful head so I can finally read the conclusion! Cheers for the link.

Also... One more thing: just out of curiosoty: Are the previous covers included in some kind of a gallery or something? Becouse the first one of the oni-press edition was one of my favorite mignola pieces...

It's a different link. I assumed the same thing but this one is a follow up saying the ending is delayed til July.

Ahh I see... the page was taking forever to load and it appeared to be a repost of the links already on the thread. My bad
Are the previous covers included in some kind of a gallery or something? Becouse the first one of the oni-press edition was one of my favorite mignola pieces...Sadly the Mignola cover's are not included/collected in this new TPB, only a new Mignola cover done just for the TPB. Unless they're collected in the concluding story due out sometime next month (or *gasp* july), chances are they will remain lost except for those lucky souls that own the single issues #1 and #2. Speaking of which, does anyone have links to the covers for the single issues, or perhaps would be kind enough to scan them for our perusal?

This is the response that I got about the shipping dates for the new books. The reply was from Ross of Atomeka.
JENNY FINN: DOOM came out in shops yesterday.
JENNY FINN: MESSIAH is about two months from being in stores.
Thanks for hanging in there!

Sadly the Mignola cover's are not included/collected in this new TPB, only a new Mignola cover done just for the TPB.
I don't think that's a new Mignola cover done for the TPB. The signature says '99. I believe that he had already completed the covers for all four issues, and the covers to the two Atomika editions are the unused covers to issues 3 and 4 of the Oni series. Yes, it's really too bad they didn't include a gallery of Mignola's original covers, or at least reprint one in color on the back cover. Oh well, I've got the originals tucked away somewhere...
I'm really sorry to hear that Troy Nixey won't be finishing the series. While I'm still excited to see it concluded, my level of excitement just dropped a lot. The combination of his weirdness and Mike's weirdness was what really made the comic work. Plus, wasn't it all Nixey's idea to begin with? And he seemed so happy to be completing it! The article says he's suddenly quit comics for good, but doesn't elaborate. That's a shame. Does anyone know the story behind it? Did Jenny Finn drive him totally insane? If so, it's probably a cursed story and will just keep driving any artist who tries to complete it to the madhouse. Imagine what it would do to us if we ever got to read it? I HOPE that the second volume comes out in July, and I hope that 20 pages of Nixey artwork is in it, but given the history of this project, I'm not holding my breath...

Yes! I was about to give up hope for this but I went by the comic shop yesterday to pick up Billy the Kid's Old Timey Oddities and I saw Jenny Finn! -I am soo glad to finally be able to read this, I just hope the conclusion will come through in the end..
Although, I've got a nasty feeling something will go awry.
Spyda- I thought The second instalment was called Virus, it's now Messiah?-meh at least somethings happening with it.

Jenny Finn was a delightful surprise; I planned to post about this today! I found the Jenny Finn book at the crappy old comic book store the other day, totally by chance, and I couldn't figure out why I hadn't heard of it already (because everyone here at the HB board is always aware of such things). I'm kinda glad I hadn't heard of it, though, because it was SUCH a thrill to stroll past a rack of comics, do a double-take as I thought I saw MIGNOLA art, and finally confirm that yes, it WAS! I was so excited. :)
My thoughts after reading it: Good story, I want to hear more.

That was my first thought as well! Seriously though, that's too bad about Troy. Jenny Finn seemed to me to be a really amazing realization of the promise of what was going on in The Doom that Came to Gotham, where now he and Mike had free reign to just do whatever came to their diseased brains without having to deal with Batman (although admittedly the Gotham Villains + Lovecraft aesthetic stuff was awesome.) So I guess I'll pick this up just to see where Mike was going with it, and hope that the artist suprises me.
And is it just me, or is this comic five times more creepy in black and white?

I was being glib, but I am genuinely upset about Nixey opting out of comics. It's a big loss to the industry. And I really do want to know more details if anyone has them. I hope he's alright. Well... We'll always have The Doom That Came To Gotham, at least. And that awesome Victorian Simpsons Halloween comic Nixey did.
Oh, and I could have sworn that Jenny Finn was in black and white the first time around too. Wasn't it?

As to my opinion... Well there has been a polish edition of "doom that came to gotham" and I must admitt that I believe (and many of my fellow comic companions agree) that this is the worst Mignola comic to be ever published here. Personally... I HATE the art. So the sudden change on board Jenny is more of a relief to me... :)

Does the continuity in publishing really differ that much here as compared to over seas?

Words right out of my mouth...
I was going to say, I also quite loved that Batman story. Art and Story. I don't even begin to understand how that could be regard as the worst of Mignola.

Owwww man!! It differs!! IT DIFFERS A LOT!! I'm speaking for the Poland right now: First of all -> most of our editions are made from scans of yours, not from some kind of original Matrix so the quality is a bit worse... Secondly, the paper is never as good as in Us versions. Thirdly, we (due to the fact that comics are not as popular and cheap as in US) don't have as many new titles every month. Most of the comics are published as the TPB at the starts and only few of V. popular series are printed as single issues(which mainly contain of 2 originla Us issiues). Sometimes we have to wait more than you could imagine for a comicbook to be published in poland-> for example the long known and acclamied "Batman: The Arkham Asylum" is going to be published FOR THE FIRST TIME in July this year and only in limited hardcover edition. Most of the non-Hellboy Mignola titles haven't been published here yet... I can only speak for Poland, becouse in countries such as Italy, Spain, France there are much more comic fans so the overall quality is higher and the same pattern goes with the number of titles.

I just don't like the art... And see'n looking at the cover gallery at what this story could have looked like makes my heart ache... :( And for someone for whom the whole history of batman and his villains is unknown the whole story seems to miss something... (I have to admit that it wasn't mine first opinion- i Liked the "Doom..." the first time I read it, but then I lend it to my friend and as he didn't posses the batman knowledge he pinpointed the fact that most of the action is made in such a way to mainly and only iterest batman or/and Lovecraft fans. And while I read the whole comic second time... I had to agree with him)

I guess I have to disagree again. I'm not what you'd call a Batman fan. I dislike most of what's out there. All the Time Sale Batman stuff I find I cant get excited about. I find the "Long Halloween" to be a "Long" bore. Nice idea, lazy implementation. I'm not even really a fan of Lovecraft. I won't comment on his stuff at risk of pissing off some people, but I'll say that what I AM is a fan of both the ideas and ideals of Batman and Lovecraft.
So, all this to say I enjoyed the Doom for what it was. To me, it's a Mignola/Nixey take on those two worlds without being either. It was something totally their own and I suppose some get into it, while others hoped it would have been something else.

I have to say, I liked The Doom that Came to Gotham pretty good, but I wasn't a huge fan of the art. But Jenny Finn made me a slavering Nixy fan. So maybe you should give it a whirl.
