WTF is up with this?

So far, nothing. It looks like the strip can go a couple different ways.

All we know is that the comic store owner got arrested for selling adult comics. He was narced out by woman/mother.

It could go the 'comics aren't just for kids anymore' or 'freedom of speech' or 'responsible retailership' or 'violating zoning ordinance' routes.

I'm assuming that the woman isn't next in line to inherit a forture and decided to eliminate the favorite sibling by having him shanked in the joint.

Peter David posted about this on his site, so I've been reading it since.

Can't wait to see where they are going with this.

Actually the woman in question is the mother of Becky, friend(and former date) of Jonathan(the comic store owner). Judging from her performance last week(pressuring her daughter to marry her live-in fiance), she's being painted as a Christian Conservative.

Given that Tom Batuik is a long-time comics fan, and that veteran comic book artists John Byrne and Dick Ayers pinch-hit on the artistic chores for the strip from time to time, I think he'll take the 'freedom of speech/comics aren't just for kids' approach.

Thanks.

I didn't know the character's background.

That's pretty cool having the angry mom getting revenge through police in a comic strip.

If only Family Circus was that interesting.

Man, what awesome timing. Last night I read Teenages from Mars. Amazning. It is very similar and relevent to this Funky Winkerbean story. Except with more zombie love (kinda) and more violence. I highly reccomend it to fans of comics and free speech.

Man, I never thought I'd say this, but Funky Winkerbean was me absolutely riveted.

My local paper hasn't carried the strip in a long long time, that was the last time I had even read the strip. I am also riveted to this storyline now as well.

This strip has had some really interesting story arcs in the past.. curious to see what will happen.

I started reading the strip because of the comic storyline, but...BOY, what a chore. This strip is not funny. Not even a teeny, tiny, little bit. This thing is even less funny than Garfield. CURRENT Garfield.

I've been catching up on all this. Man what a b-tch. I hope the daughter calls off the wedding to just ruin her.
