Bill Bixby was a great actor who was best known for playing David Banner on the Incredible Hulk TV Show.

He also starred in "My Favorite Martian", "The Magician", and "Goodnight Beantown". He was also a director. After his run on the Hulk, he was most noted for directing episodes of "Blossom" up until his death in November of 1993.

He and Lou Ferrigno were the main reason that the Incredible Hulk was such a huge success. The Show had a five year run that also included three highly rated TV movies.

It was important to Bixby that The Incredible Hulk be played straight and not for camp. When he was first offered the role of Banner, he had concerns that the show would be goofy and a waste of time, but when he saw what Producer Kenneth Johnson was trying to do he got behind it 100%.

Bixby's life was not without Tragedy. His young Son Christopher died of respiratory problems and his love life was checkered.

I've read a lot about the guy and it is rare that I hear someone say anything negative about the man. He fought his illness to the end and died with a great deal of dignity.

Mark B. There was also a show with a kid. I don't remember the name, but it was apparently popular or memorable enough.

"The _______ of Eddie's Father" or something?

EDIT: The Courtship of Eddie's Father

Yeah, I can't believe that I forgot that one.

I never really got to watch it, that's probably why.

This probably isn't the time or place, but that reminds of one of my favourite simpsons quotes;

"Don't worry. If i know fat tony, which i don't, he'll be..." :D

Jusw the way he always said, "You wouldn't like me when I'm mad" ----- man, that was classic!!! Great show! Especially for it's time!! I even liked the Thor story. :D"Mister McGee, don't make me angry. You wouldn't like me when I'm angry." That is a classic line. I was a huge fan of the show as a child. Oddly enough, it seemed more true to the character than the comic. When I think of Banner I see, hear and think Bixby.

Uh ....Bill Bixby was pretty old when he died ....mid to late 50's or early 60's . I tried to Google his d.o.b. but couldn't find it ....but hell , he was in his late 30's -early 40's when he did the Hulk in the 70's ....so actually he'd have been in his 60's - 70's .
I did find that he was a professional magician at the age of 14 ! And I remember the Hollywood E ! program when he died ....said he was a real Hollywood Playboy back in the day ....not saying that was bad ....he was a good looking guy . He definitely brought a great deal of humanity and loneliness to the character of David Bruce Banner .

Uh ....Bill was 59 at the time of his death, that isn't pretty old, really. At least not for a person to die.

I would consider late fifties/early sixties pretty young, mate.

You need to set your standards a little higher, i reckon.

Man, talk about a trip down memory lane.

I dug Bill Bixby as a kid for two reasons; 1) he was David(?) Banner in The Incredible Hulk, and 2) he was a fairly skilled sleight-of-hand artist. I remember seeing reruns of The Magician a few years back on Sci-Fi Channel, and they made a point of observing that he did his own tricks in the show, without TV special effects. Cool gimmick.

I wasn't around for the original TV run, but Bill Bixby always stuck with me from the TV movies as a kid. Something about that common shot where his eyes go green and he's starting to rage out.

He was a great TV actor, and apparently a great guy from what I hear.

Hugh Jackman (Wolverine) has expressed interest in making a biopic based on Bill Bixby:

"One project dear to my heart and I hope I can make is The Bill Bixby Story. I have been writing the script for this for five months. Bryan (Singer), first told me about Bill Bixby when we where making X2 and i was keen to find out more about him, I only vaguely knew him from The Hulk TV series, and the more I found out the more I knew that I wanted to do a movie about him. His story is so moving and sincere, he was a remarkable performer and person, with, like all of us a dark side, and alot of tragedy in his life. This is the kind of film I want to do after months of doing the action and adventure. Call it a chance for me to exercise my deeper emotions if you will"
