i was.
i can bitch all i want about avengers turning into new avengers, but that book at least maintained the same level of quality (that is to say mediocre both pre- and post-disassembled). thats another thread (or, every other thread practically) though, not this one. but, man, iron man got the raw end of the deal with disassembled.
miller's first 6 issues of iron man were the best the book had been all of vol. 3, vol. 2 and the last 100+ issues of vol 1.
i wanted to see that story-line run on for a whileinstead we got about 12 isssues of it, and the next story only barely touched on it and was hampered by tan's wack ass art.
and lucas should be drawing iron man until his arm falls off or jose ladronn could come on the book (he'd be perfect for it).
but instead we get starks mouthing off at un meeting.
and im digging ellis's story so far, or whatever you want to call whats been happening so far but this delay is killing me. at this pace extremis (i had to look that up, i couldnt remember the storyline's name it had been so long). wont be done til like december.
im just venting really, but i also wanted to know what yall thought about miller's too brief run.

I thought it was a damn shame that they had him resign as SoD, I htought that was the most interesting thing they'd done with Stark as a character in years. But having said that I really love Ellis' take so far, I guess it's just a shame they couldn't have the SoD story entwined in Ellis'.

Ah well, maybe they'll return to it some time.

I thought him having that role was extremely cool. I loved it. Gave him a lot of respect.

I thought it was an interesting idea, but none of the actual execution did much for me.

Yea I gotta agree it was an interesting idea and actually made me buy an Iron Man comic for the first time but the execution was indeed poor. Ive picked up the first 2 issues of Ellis's Iron Man but not sure if ill be getting the third as the series isnt doing much for me. Its not bad but just not my tastes.

Yes, it was an interesting twist. But it just didn't seem to jive for me.

Being the secretary of defense is a full time job. And not one you can do and also be Iron Man and Tony Stark, ruler of all things that Stark Industries may or may not be owning at the time.

Now, had Tony retired to become the Secretary of Defense, and had a new Iron Man, and taken on a more mentor-like role for the new one, I could see it.

But ultimately, Tony Stark is Iron Man, and probably always will be, so best to keep him in that role, and not trying to moonlight 13 other positions.

I loved the BEST DEFENSE arc, but the arcs after that didn't really handle the issue in a cool way. Still, it's too bad Disassembled had to take this sub-plot away from the writers.

i forget but how the hell did they retcon Tony Stark not being publicly known as Iron Man?

I don't think it was a retcon, exactly. Tony just told everyone he wasn't Iron Man anymore and that it was now someone else inside the suit.

It's a bit of a stretch, but it's basically the same thing he did to fix Iron Man's public image after the "Armor Wars" storyline.

I was. I just wished they had continue with it instead of having him become a business man once again.

It was an intresting idea, but it was pulled off horribly and it drug the story way too slow. Nothing really seemed to happen.

I think Stark works better as a normal buisness man anyway.

I thought it was an interesting idea that turned out OK in execution.
