I remember a couple years back with the obsidian age debacle and the JLA roster chainged significantly for a brief period.

Who would you put in the roster to keep the book selling and keep the DC universe safe at the same time? No cheating by writing the entire JSA roster or Titan Roster.

LOL!!! True but just like the Avengers they had to give all those great guys the boot to make JLA top seller so how would you execute making it a top seller with the handicap of second stringers?

Basically, I'd cut the Big Seven and fill out the roster with characters who have some history of carrying a book. Hence:

Green Arrow
Black Canary
Oracle
Hawkman
The Atom
Captain Marvel

Arrow and Canary provide romantic tension, while Hawkman and Arrow provide just plain tension, and Canary and Oracle have a great working relationship. The Atom brings the brains, and Marvel brings the muscle.

I'm assuming the first stringers are the Big 7 and I'm going to extend it to the Satilite Era to have a little more fun.

Okay, so all the Leaguers from the Satilite Era have been captured by one of their old foes and it's up to a new League to save them.

1.) Captain Atom - Team leader.
2.) Skyrocket - Recruited because of her military background.
3.) Brainwave II - I believe he was recently cured of the mental condition that made him a bad guy. He'll be essential for team communication.
4.) Bumblebee - Ever team needs a flyer, and she has a few tricks to make her a more well-rounded flyer.
5.) Power Girl - The team's muscle was the hardest role to fill. I wanted to be more creative in my pick, but I couldn't think of a better 2nd-stringer to fill this role than Power Girl.
6.) Aztek II - Has kind of a Batman/Steel role as the scientist/brains of the group.
7.) Doll Girl - For spy work... and she kicks butt!

I know I didn't follow the "keep the book selling" rule with all the d-stringers I put on it. But, I had fun coming up with this list anyway... and I would buy this JLA in a heartbeat.

Leader/Bruiser - Power Girl (since I don't see JSA All Stars continuing much further)

Science Guy - The Atom (Ray Palmer)

Magic Guy - Zauriel (allowing for a Hawkman/Atom redux)

Infiltration Guy - Mister Miracle/Shiloh Norman (disconnected enough from the New Gods universe that I think he's an appropriate choice for a DC team, awesome enough that he's an appropriate choice for the JLA)

Badass Loner - The Bride of Frankenstein. Much more interesting than Frankie himself, IMHO, and just awesome in all sorts of ways. On loan from SHADE.

Funny Guy - Plastic Man, because as inappropriate a choice as he might seem, he really added tons to the Morrison/Kelly JLA runs.

Energy Manipulator - I wish I could say Dr. Light here, to get more females and minorities on the team, but nothing about that character excites me whatsoever. Ditto to Jade, frankly. Maxima's personality is too close to that of Power Girl to be really interesting. Maybe Tomorrow Woman -- though back as an android rather than flesh and blood. I wouldn't mind seeing an actual personality fleshed out, since she's mostly been a pollyanna, but I like her origin and her powers, the tragedy and heroism of it all.
