Hey, beautiful people...

Just came across this cool little ditty. Thought I'd share this li'l discovery:

http://www.newsarama.com/Burlyman/shaolin_02_cover_alternate.jpg

Darrow is just the coolest (along with our Mr. Mignola) and the first issue was a feast for the eyes.

And there you are.

Wow. Thanks for posting that! I had no idea he was doing a cover for this. I picked up the first issue and, as usual, Darrow doesn't disappoint with the art, not to mention the cool layouts on the full-page spreads.

Rick! Mignola ripped off your "Criminy Crabhead" character!!

Thanks for pointing this out, I hadn't even heard of the book. Plus, my poor excuse for a comic shop owner never alerted me to the book, and he should have known better. Must beat comic shop owner....

Shame on anyone that hasn't heard of Shaolin Cowboy! Get your fanboy and fangirl butts down to your local comic shop and pickup a copy! While your at it, pickup a copy of Doc Frankenstein too! Please support this new Burlyman imprint, as these characters and the creators involved are darned cool.

Oh, and really sweet Mignola cover on issue 2. Can't wait to pickup that bad boy :)

How about them spreads, huh? You just gotta love 'em or hate 'em.

I'm not sure if a previous Thread already exists regarding Mike's cover to the above comic, but if not allow me to be the first. All I can say is, this comic was absolutely worth every cent of the ten bucks I shelled out for it! Mike is a genius (of course so is Geof Darrow) and I would die a happy man if he just did covers for the rest of his career. Thankfully Mike also does interiors and other projects, so I can stay alive a little bit longer :p

I think they sold out of the Mike cover at my store. :(

Can you post a scan of this ish?? And, being a Mignola completist, where can I order a copy online?? I'm certain my local comix shop, specializing in (yawn) long underwear muscle operas, won't carry anything like this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Damn. I didn't see a Mignola cover at Golden Apple OR Meltdown.

As a fan of Darrow's, I've been picking up this book, but I had no idea Mike did a cover 'til I got it home and read the inside cover. "Alternative cover by Mike Mignola!"

Aargh!

Hope I can track one down...

I just picked up the 2nd issue taday, but Diamond only shipped the Darrow-covered issues to my local shop. I hope some of you have better luck.

I *almost* bought the Darrow cover - when I went up to the counter to pay, they had the Mignola cover in the glass case... "Gahh! I want THAT one... please!"

I paid six bucks, and I see that Stygian says he paid ten... not that I even blinked at the price, or even entertained a thought of not buying the Mignola version, but what the hell? I know that America is all about Capitalism, but it does say $3.50 right on the cover. Yeah, I know, I know... supply and demand. I'm just sayin'.

My shop doesn't engage in price gouging, which is probably why they sold out of the Mignola covers toot-sweet.

Mr. Grim, it does say $3.50 on the cover and, as the consumer, I'm totally on your side, but comic shops ARE a business (and all that), so I understand the "gouging" at least in theory. That being said, I also didn't even blink at the price. Also, if I'm being honest, I haven't even cracked the cover as the comic itself is proudly hanging in my studio next to many of Mike's other mini works of art :D

Yeah, like Rick sez - you gotta read it! I just finished it, and the story of "King Crab" is absurdly funny - I particularly loved the names of his family members :D Ironically (what with the Mignola cover and all) it brought to mind the wonderful absurdity of The Amazing Screw-On Head.

If anyone is still up for grabs the Burlymanentertainment sells'em via Ebay:

With me being in distance of more than 20$-shipping-cost this info is worthless... :(

Hey Khan_Doalyn-Thanks for the link. I was able to get a couple, at 350cents each. My comic book store was alloted only one, and the store owner being a Mignola fan, claimed it for himself. That dirty dog! Anyway, thank you very much.

Ditto here ... only our comic store guy put the ONLY copy on e-bay "to be fair" gaaah I'm bidding on it anyway - no shipping!

Thanks Khan_Doalyn!

morna-Burlyman is selling them at cover price though, if you have not check it out yet. Yeah, S&H can be a big pain sometimes.

I went back to Golden Apple today, and there, amongst three shelves of Darrow covers, was one isolated Mignola cover! And so I bought it at cover price. I feel incredibly lucky to find this one after so many days. :)

What I really love about it is that they reprint Mike's art on the back cover without the logo. There's a lot more going on up at the top (he even worked in a bat!) so it's great to be able to see unencumbered.

wow... sucks that due to your location you're extorted into paying that much when I paid a paltry $3.50

Just ordered my Mignola version off of the company's website. The local shops around here sold out of shaolin cowboy entirely (my roomate the lucky bastard he is nabbed the last one). I've read it, and love the story as well as Darrow's art (fell in love with his work after reading Hard Boiled).

Anyhow, I've got issues 1 & 2 coming to me in the mail. CANT WAIT!! :D

My local comic shop still hasn't had the latest issue (happens from time to time, Diamond do suck sometimes), but the owner is a pal of mine and has promised me a Mignola cover if there are any.

Hilarious book, loved the ten page single panel in the first issue.

We finally got both issues in (yes I won that Mignola variant one on e-bay but some GUY bid me up at the last moment - still a good deal!) and have just finished the first read through. Very nice... funny, quirky, lovely I may be a new Darrow fan!

'Think they'll continue with this? If so, I'm in .

aaaand... the new goon rocks too!

see you lovely people in a week! xo m+g

Hardboiled is AMAZING. Just got my Shaolin Cowboy, Issues 1 & 2 in the mail the otherday (#2 being the Mignola varient cover) and read through both. I love the quirky humor throughout. Great stuff. Hopefully this isnt the end for our crustacean consuming powerhouse of a monk and his bizzare donkey friend? :)
