This ought to spark some interesting debate.

The whole thing was a hoax by Mingwei as an art project. It sparks the question should men get pregnant?
Theoretically, a man could carry a child to term. I don't personally know any male who would go through with it, most of the guys I know get really whiney if they get the sniffles, I don't even want to think about listening to any them if they had a five pound child kicking their bladder and pushing at their spine.
So, what do all of you think about men getting pregnant?
I'm all for it. If a guy wants to do it and believes he can handle the physical discomfort of carrying a child in a body that wasn't exactly designed for it, I don't see where it would be any big deal.

Jeez, this world gets more like science fiction every day. So how would that work? Would there be some sort of surgically implanted uterus?
I don't have any problem with anyone else wanting to do it, but I'll pass, personally.

Y'know some people would view this thread as an excuse to post the Dustin Hoffman with prosthetic breasts pictures.
Friendly warning.

I'm assuming the child would have to be born via C-section. And I guess there would have to be somesort of artificial womb. Where else would the kid go, on the side of his bladder? Oh the stretch marks on my once perfect abs!
I wonder what effects a man carrying a child would have on his equipment downstairs, if any?
Eh, I'm not sure about it. It’s great to have kids and all, but my gut tells me this is manipulating nature and biology just a little too far— same way cloning could. I'm sure so many of you are surprised to see me take that opinion. ;)

Never mind. I thought better of it.
Dustin Hoffman wearing prosthetic breasts can be found on Warren Ellis's front page.

Women are still the best choice for the job of pregnancy.

I thought I was pregnant once. Turns out it was just a cabbage patch doll I had eaten when I was 4. *sniff* I had named it and everything...
I miss you Jefferey. :(

LOL!!!! Good one.
I personally disagree with the men being wusses part. I've had four torn tendons and three crushed bones in my foot for 3 months now, and the strongest thing I can take for it is Motrin. You don't know what pain is until you wake yourself up ten times a night because the covers shifted as you lay still.

This is insane. Sometimes we really should slap scientists and tell them to stop.
There are enough problems that occur within bodies that are designed for it without modifying bodies that weren't.

Really, that's effective for you? Cause this girl I knew was taking the same thing, and she got pregnant.

I think if they really had the technology, women would get threatened and do all sorts of protests. Or even better, if you could have a baby in a machine. People would set up book and baby bin burning bashes.

Man! I probably couldn't even carry a baby from one room to the next, much less in my manwomb for 9 months!

Pia here,
I read about this a few years ago in an old issue of Omni. Apparently scientists were able to establish early stages of pregnancy in simians (baboons I think) without any adverse affects. A fertilised egg was implanted on the outside of the bowel or the stomach where nutrients could be easily absorbed from the blood vessels there. The experiments weren't allowed to go to term either because they had ethics rules in place or the only purpose was to study fertilisation drugs and therefore the fetus wasn't required to go that far but they theorised that the fetus upon coming to term could be removed via C-section without any problems.
Personally I don't mind the idea. If a guy wanted to experience the miracle of birth or whatever, all power to him. If a couple wanted to take this route in order to avoid going through a surrogate, what the hey, but only if it could be proven safe. I don't think there are a lot of men out there who would want to risk damaging a giant chunk of stomach wall.

This reminds me of a quote from MURPHY BROWN when she was deciding what to do when she found out she was pregnant:
"If men could get pregnant, the right to have an abortion would be the first amendment."
