Hi all, total newbie - so let me know if this is wrong place to ask questions...

Does anyone have any opinions on the Morrison / Quitely JLA : Earth 2 trade - saw it when I was at the comic shop and as I am enjoying the Crime Syndicate arc in JLA I wondered if this was any good?? - I'm big fan of Morrison and Quitely normally so that seems to be one point in its favour :D

Thanks

Matt

I really enjoyed it actually, if anything it is worth a read, especially if you like the CSA. It is the only other place you'll get to read them.

Did Morrison create the CSA then? or have they just not been used very much??

it is really solid m/q work. q draws the jla/csa better than anyone imo--but I am a q fan.

the plot is excellent with some neat twists. some 'obtuse-ness' in the usual morrison fashion

EARTH 2 is a fun read. It's easily up there with the best of Morrison's JLA stuff, and Quitely puts in his usual superb effort.

I thought Morrisons JLA (including the recent JLA:Classified arc) was the best the JLA has been (along with some of Waid's stuff and a couple of other strong standalone type issues) - so if this is up there with that I will definitely give it a go.

Thanks for the opinions guys.

Morrison did NOT create the Crime Syndicate. They've been around for ages. I remember back in the eraliest of the 80s really enjoying a JLA/JSA crossover with the Crime Syndicate (who at that point were on Earth 3).

Morrison re-worked the relationships a bit and put his patented Morrison spin on how things worked out- but everything else is the same. Evil version of the JLA on a world where evil tends to win.

It's a fun story and very silver age influenced.

I also enjoyed the story. There are some nice touches from Morrison, and the art from Quitely is really good. Saying that, I am a fan of his work :) . I'd say the book was worth a look.

I can't recommend this story enough, especially if you come to it by way of Morrison's other JLA stuff. No knock against Howard Porter (I'm not one who thinks he's the worst in the world or anything, not by far) but he's not in Quitely's league (pardon the pun). His art just opens the story up so much, and adds a sweeping grace and power to what was already a great run on a book.

And one would be remiss to not mention the fantabulous colors of Laura (DePuy) Martin, using "God's own Paintshop" (Morrison's words).

Enjoy!

Ah yeah, it's great...

Cool story and great art.

It's probably one of the more straightforward stories Morrison's ever done.

As far as JLA graphic novels go, I'd say this and the Waid/Hitch Heaven's Ladder is essenetial -- at least as far as recent stuff goes.

Plus, it's features J'onn J'onzz being a badass at the end.

And as we all know, anything with J'onn showcasing his superior skills is golden.

The original Crime Synicate were created by Julie Schwartz (edtor) 'an Garnder Fox (writer) waaaaaaay back in the sixties.

Then they were kilt in the Crisis.

This is a new version of the same characters, who are pretty much exactly like the old version, but newer.

But the book was pretty good.

yet another reason to fork out the cash...

Theres not nearly enough of J'onn being badass in the current JLA books IMO.

I'm not a big Grant Morrison fan. But I thought that it was okay. Loved Owlman, I wish that Batman had his naughty irreverent attitude. It would definetly make for more interesting reading.

This was the book that made me forgive Quitely for his run on The Authority. Gorgeous stuff.

Plus -- the kind of story that has new depth with each reading. Definitely a high point of Morrison's JLA work.

Damn right!

This guys in on Supes's level of power yet he never gets the screentime that the others do.

I always liked the vague implication that J'onn was just kinda hanging back never really opening up the valves until it really hit the fan, when he was really needed.

His enigmatic personality sort of facilitates that image.

The strong, silent type, y'know?

I love that about the character. :)

Great read. I wish Morrison and Quitely would do more JLA. Get it.

Just got it a couple of weeks ago and I totally agree. Fun stuff.

I like it, but the closet scene between Lois and Jimmy creeps me out. I know it's supposed to, but it's Lois! Teasing Jimmy with pantyhose! WTF?!

Hehehe, I forgot about that scene. I guess at least it was supposed to be so creepy and, well, wrong. I should re-read the book again. :)

JLA: EARTH-2 was fan-frickin'-tastic. One of the few superhero stories that actually merited the original graphic novel format. You can't go wrong with putting Morrison and Quitely together.

I think EARTH-2 was easily the highlight of Morrison's run on the JLA.

I've got it too, and I enjoyed it. I have no use for Morrison's stuff overall, but I LOVE alternate earths, especially the Crime Syndicate.

It was a fun story with enjoyable characters.

It is really good, i would recommend it, i got it when it first came out, i don't like Morrison writing most of the time or Quitely's art, but i thought this was good.
