I've said it before, and I'll say it again -- bringing Corrigan back after the end of Ostrander's Spectre would be a mistake. He's done his part, he earned his place in heaven, and his story is -- or should be -- over.

yeah let him rest in peace finally

i agree, Ostrander and Mandrake ended Corrigan's story really well and i'm not sure that i'd want that story undone.
however . . .
if Corrigan were to give up his place in heaven in order to return to control an out of control Spectre then i could live with that.

I would bet on a cop from Gotham Central, Although not that Corrigan character.

So is he the same guy from Gotham Central or not? People are talking like he died in Spectre's comic....

They are not the same person. The original Jim Corrigan was a cop murdered in the 1930s. He was bonded with the Spectre because of his rage and need for vengeance. At the end of Ostrander and Mandrake's Spectre series, he was finally allowed to rest. The GC Corrigan is a bent cop who sells evidence on G-Bay. I'm not sure if they're actually related or not.

A cop bent on vengence huh? Sounds like Harvey Bullock.

My concern is that the "original" Jim Corrigan never existed.
Much as this new Supergirl is not the return of the "old Supergirl", but her very first apperance in post-crisis DCU, I'm wondering if this "new" Jim Corrigan is "THE" Jim Corrigan being introduced to us for the "first time"
(Did the use of quotation marks help or hurt that paragraph's chance of making sense? lol)

Gods, I hope that's not the case. It would make zero since, since the "old" Supergirl hadn't been around post-CRISIS until just recently, while the same old Spectre had been around for a long time and starred in two ongoing series - one (the Ostrander/Mandrake one) of which was truly excellent and finally put Jim Corrigan to a well-earned rest.
Of course, they let Byrne erase DP continuity to relaunch that book, so who knows?

the real jim corrigan was the host of the spectre from the time of his creation prior to superman until the end of the last ostrander/yale spectre series. i'm thinking someone else will be getting into the game as the spectre cause in the past he has been proven to be highly uh, violent when left unhosted by a human and sometimes with corrigan in him he went over the edge too. so for the record jim corrigan is supposed to be hanging his hat up in heaven after over 6 decades of service as the spectre, but hey hal jordan and ollie queen should still be pusing up daisies right next to clark kent so who know right? laters taters!

Personally, I think the Gotham Central Corrigan has 'Red Herring' written all over him.

I think you've misunderstood what they're saying. They're saying that they're afraid DC may be about to rewrite history as far as Corrigan is concerned.

In "Rebirth," the Spectre said that another man was going to be killed, and that he would be the new host for the Spectre. I dont' think Corrigan is coming back.

I don't think Corrigan will be returning as the Spectre. I would not be overly upset if that were the case as the long as the explanation is clever. I love the Spectre character and If he got his own series again I would buy it no matter what. I hope the Gotham Central Corrigan stays put. I am not crazy about the idea of two different Corrigans becoming the Spectre or any unwise retconning to that effect.
I hate retcons by the way. The whole Crisis storyline was necessary to fix the mess DC got themselves into; I can live with that. But that having been said, I would recommend that readers not try to tame the continuity tiger. Comics are a fantasy, so make your "suspension of disbelief" almost all encompassing and enjoy!!!!

Which of the GC cops would you see getting killed and becoming the host?
I think if would be interesting to have a woman, but that would mean "losing" one of the already few female characters in the book.

The Spectre's new "Day of Vengeance" miniseries probably provides a clue as to who the new host will be. Whoever it is, they really hate magic...

I think if would be interesting to have a woman, but that would mean "losing" one of the already few female characters in the book.I think GOTHAM CENTRAL actually has one of the largest female casts in comics. Well, unless it's Rucka's turn to write, in which case the book suddently becomes THE ADVENTURES OF RENEE MONTOYA. Greg, she's gay. We get it! Can we see some other cops now?
Ahem. Excuse the rant.
Anyway, I don't want to see the original Jim Corrigan become the Spectre again, but I do like the idea of the new Spectre being a former cop. Keeping with tradition, y'know?
We don't even need to kill a current member of the GOTHAM CENTRAL cast to make it happen, since Charlie Fields, Nate Patton and Probson have already been violently killed in the line of duty. Hell, the Probe sure was getting into the spirit of vengence before the Joker killed him, and Patton had TONS of story potential left in him, so I could see either of them taking on the role.

The old Jim Corrigan is not coming back as The Spectre he has already been asked and he has said no, that is why Hal Jordan took over for him, now that Hal Jordan is returning to be a GL they need a new Spectre, The Spectre said in issue 4 of Rebirth that "a man will be murdered and a new host will be born" clearly stating that the old Jim Corrigan is not coming back, he has earned his rest in Heaven let him stay ther.

Sue Dibney is the new Spectre already, hence her "line" at the end of Identity Crisis. :p
...Just kidding. For what's it worth, though, I can't see Corrigan coming back... but I do hope the Spectre keeps his Corrigan-style collar this time around.

I am inclined to think that perhaps Willingham will use the old Enchantress option, formerly discarded by Johns in the the late 90s series leading to the ill fated Hal Jordan Spectre.
Just a wild guess. We shall see :)

I think the Spectre stating that another MAN was going to die, and that he would become the new host, is pretty much telling us it's not going to be a woman.

Interesting idea. The Spectre in Kingdom Come was supposed to be Jim Corrigan. Hal hadn't become Spectre at that point and was intentionally left out of the story.

Ummm NO. In response to your question I give you this famous line: Those who ignore history, are doomed to repeat it.
Renee Montoya or Harvey Bullock get my votes.

An overweight Spectre would be interesting.
I know it gonna be a man, but wouldn't Stephanie Brown be a great choice?

Didn't he also refer to Sue Dibny's killer as "they"?

I caught the intro of an old T.J. Hooker episode (don't ask why) recently and I saw that back when they added actor James Darren to the cast his character was a cop named...
...James Corrigan.

I think it would be nice if Hourman I, Rex Tyler became the next Spectre. The murder would made JSA an interesting read and most importantly, John's resurrection of him previously would be more justified :p

...and it's not like Alex Ross will ever paint Hal as anything other than Green Lantern, anyway.
Frankly, I don't care who gets to wear the green cloak and Speedos as long as we go back to the spooky-wierd Wrath of God Spectre. The touchy-feely New Age Hippie version left a bad taste in my mouth.

I've got to say, I'm generally against characters that get killed off in cheap ways coming back as the Spectre. Just seems to prolong the hurt, in my experience.

Maybe, but I want to see the Spectre breathing down Bruce's neck for getting her killed... :evilsmile

Oh, I don't know if you need anyone to haunt Bruce for the mistakes he's made where Robins are concerned. He's pretty good at doing that himself.

While it is a neat idea, I hated her character. It was so misused. I still for the life of me figure out why Bruce would accept her, then deny her, then accept, then deny her. I mean where in the stories, until War Games, did she do something really dumb?
That and she tied down Tim. Plus, that Spoiler outfit was a little odd, the hood that is.

To be fair Tim was tied down by Ariana before Steph. And it was more interesting to not be able to tell her his secret identity than it was when he couldn't tell Ariana that he was Robin. That whole "I lead a double life you don't know about and it leads to misunderstandings" thing has been done to death.
Oh, I don't know if you need anyone to haunt Bruce for the mistakes he's made where Robins are concerned. He's pretty good at doing that himself.
With Jason, yes. With Steph, who he was just using to manipulate Tim, not so much.
