Well?
I'm hopefully soon getting my hands on Unreal Tournament 2004 for the PC.

I don't buy. I rent. Shouldn't this be what game are you currently playing? That made more sense, since a lot of people go back and play old games. The last game I actually bought was Far Cry.

Do they have to be newely released games?
or just any game that you recently bought?

In hindsight it would make more sense actually.
Jonah, Jade or any of the other mods out there please change the title thread from "bought" to "played" please.
In the meanwhile everyone can still inform us which games they've been playing.
Starting with which game Pepisgirl rented and played last? :D

Can be recently, can be old, can be rented, can be new.
Just basically whatever you've been playing recently is all. :)

:) I just rented Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus, and Hitman: Contracts, so I'm playing those. I'm also playing Far Cry. And I bought Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow when I bought Far Cry, but I haven't really been playing it, my dad has.

Well then I just picked up the following a week ago in my ebay frenzy
Wild Arms 1 and 2
Vandal Hearts 1 and 2
Thousand Arms
Legend of Dragoon
Final Fantasy Anthologies and Cronicles
Parasite Eve 1
Ogre Battle and Tactics Ogre
Saiyuki
Beyond the Beyond
and finally
Vanguard Bandits.
Although I'm keeping an eye on some Persona and Saga Frontier auctions atm.

LoD was a great game. A really underrated RPG. Too bad my PS2 refuses to play PSX games now, I would love to go back and play it again :(.
Daemon
05-16-2004, 02:22 PM
yeah I tried playing it when it first came out but I had modded my PSX so I couldn't.
Then when I first got my PS2 I rented LoD again to play. I got to the second disc before I quite. Couldn't pull of additions worth crap.
This time around I'm doing alot better and there's not as much hair pulling when I'm trying to do additions...so the game got bumped up a few notches. :p

And here was me thinking I play games too much! lol
I only tend to be fan of first person shooters or beat em-ups.
Trashed about 4 friends of mine at Tekken Tag Tournament the other day, which is just as well considering how hopeless I was against them the FIFA football games and Tony Hawks 3.

You should see people's reactions when they come to my house. They look at all my games and then look at me like I'm crazy .
Anyone hammer on The Suffering?
I bought the 'Return of the King' PC game last week, which would be my newest purchase. So far I'm not exactly impressed.

My most recent purchases were La Pucelle a week and a half ago as well as Romance of the Three Kingdoms IX and Monster Rancher 4 a week ago. I'm mostly working on La Pucelle although I did get to watch my army as Sun Ce get demolished in Romance by Gongsun Zan(he conquered the entire northern area while I was fighting Yan Yan's army and his horde just demolished me).

My last Experience at Playing a RotK game was back on the Genesis with ver 4.
So how are these newer games? I still have a copy of my old RotK 2 Dos version that I play at work whenever I'm bored.
I just wish they'd translate them for the comp and not just port over the console versions..

Romance IX is....different from any Romance I've played before to be honest. While in a few ways it's rather interesting overall I still think my favorite was on the SNES(III? IV? I can't remember which number, Koei spits them out so fast that it's easy to mix them up). IX has placed a real low priority on tactics. Strategy is far more important. Indeed, battles take place on the country map so you're seeing all the battles happen simultaniously with little say beyond what formation your unit is in when you send it out of the city. And battles in the city are really really bad things even in comparison to before. By the time I was done fighting Yan Yan I had a bunch of ravaged cities under my rule with only a few in good shape(mostly older ones that I'd kept him from ever visiting). It wasn't pretty. And made it all the easier for Gongsun Zan to take me out(not that I would've had a much better chance if they were in good shape....he just had too many generals with massive armies advancing on me).

Well since we also got an Xbox a little bit ago (in a moment of insanity) we also picked up a few games for it...
Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge
Project Gotham Racing 2
Panzer Dragoon: Orta
Spiderman the Movie
Knights of the Old Republic
Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind (Game of the Year edition)
Wrath Unleashed
Then for the Gamecube Sigerson picked up Custom Robo.
I'm more in the Project Gotham 2, and Morrowind playing. While Sigerson (who hates the Star Wars movies) is engrossed in KOTOR...

I've been playing the Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker alot lately. I started a new game on it! Great game, imo!
Oh and I also a demo disc for my X-box (got the most recent X-box mag). This is what it had on it:
Men Of Valor---This first-person shooter is set in Vietnam! Its one of the new wave of Vietnam shooters to come our way! Its a pretty cool game, imo. The graphics are great, the controls are good, the rumble feature kicks in alot (making the game feel more real), and it seems like it'll be a fun game! Its also a great change of pace, cause I mean..how many more WW2 shooters do we want to see (aside: though I do admit that I am still interested in seeing that Call of Duty shooter for the X-box...) ? Its cool to see a different type of war shooter game!
Full Spectrum Warrior----Talk about a different type of war game! This game is a TACTICAL war game. That means you tell your troops (you command two groups of 'em in the demo) where to go! And when there's trouble: they do the shooting! So its a very different type of game! The people who like first person shooters would NOT like this game..but people who like more tactical type games...may like this one. I think its cool (and it has great graphics! ).
Thief: Deadly Shadows---In this game, you play a thief and the gameplay is all about STEALTH. You have to stick the shadows and sneak past guards. In the demo, you have a training mission and then real mission. In the training, you get the lowdown on how to sneak past guards using stealth and also how to use items like clubs and water arrorws to get past those guards. The game is very much about stealing stuff. So, no, its not a kids game. lol. It is, however, a fun game. This might be the one I liked the most (aside: though I did like Men of Valor alot too! ).
Juiced---What a strange title eh? Can you guess what type of game it is? No...well...its a RACING game. A cool one too from the looks of this demo. In the demo, you can choose from three different cars, but you can change the colors of those cars and also put cool drawings on the cars (aka mod them). The graphics are pretty good and the racing seems good. Though, I'm not very good at it. I've never been that good at driving games...
Robotech---This is a first-person shooter. Your in control of a robot and you go around shooting other robots. Its an ok game. I don't really have much to say about it. Prob the demo I like least.
The Red Star---The Red Star is based on a comic book. Its about..well..I'm not sure what its about. Its got something to do with Russia though. Anyway, from what I played of the demo, it is a neat game. Its a 2-D shooter game (kind of like Contra...expect you can go into the forground and background and the graphics are better! ). I liked what a saw. Good graphics and interesting gameplay.
So, anyway, those are the demos I played! Thief and Men of Valor were the best, then Full Spectrum, then Juiced, The Red Star, and Robotech comes dead last.
Over-all, a great demo disc! Best one in awhile.
Also of note: There is a video of Fable on the disc and its a walkthrough of NPC interaction and it shows some combat too! Its a pretty cool video, imo!! I liked how the graphics looked and the NPC interaction and combat looks like ALOT of fun! The more I see and hear about this game: the more I want it!!!! Can't wait!

It's average at best. I like the combat system but everything else is just so-so.
I agree about the combat system of Sudeki, but will have to disagree with you on two points:
1) Visuals - The developers went all out on visuals. This game is pretty when the programmers want you to relax and gruesome when they want you to feel threatened. When you first fight enemies, it is over the mutilated bodies of dead villagers (even their pets and livestock). There's a lot of detail in the visuals of the game. It's definately a high point.
2) Music - The score for Sudeki is very good. I don't buy many game soundtracks, but I am seriously considering picking up this one.
Unfortunately, the game suffers in terms of length, characterization, and storytelling. It's a short game, easily beatable in under 20 hours. The characters are rather bland, even though they are voiced by competant voice actors. How can you get good actors and not write a good story for them? When the most interesting aspects of the game still can't make the blandest character of the game (Elco) remotely interesting, you have problems with the story. It's predictable too with no surprises. There are also too many WTF? moments of the game like the ending, or should I say the lack of an ending.
If you have a choice between this game or something else, I would recommend you pick up that something else.
Get this one when it hits bargain bins. The good parts are worth it (especially the combat system, the fights in Sudeki rock!!), but the lack of good story telling and interesting characters really don't justify a full price purchase.

^^^When I rented Sudeki, I liked the characters, story, the combat, the visuals, and everything else too.
I'm not going to say its the best game ever (for instance, KOTR and FF10 and 2 are definitly better then Sudeki) but IMO, Sudeki is a fun game. I had alot of fun with it.
I think the visuals are cool, the character designs are good, the story was interesting (though, ya, I've seen better. I still liked what I saw though), and I liked the rest too.
I have not beaten the game, so I don't know how the ending is, but I did get to play enough of the game to know that I like it and would definitly buy it when it comes down in price.
And I may even rent it again sometime.
Sudeki is a good game, imo!
Of course, it should not noted that I'm not nit-picky about my games (for the most part). IF something entertains me..if I have fun with it, then I'm happy!
I mean..isn't that what gaming is all about? Having fun?
I had fun playing Sudeki.

I just picked up Star Ocean: Till the End of Time the other day. Haven't got too far yeat, but so far I'm enjoying it. The first Enix RPG of the current console generation wears it's Squaresoft/Final Fantasy influences on its sleeve. That may bother some, but I have no problem with it. The FF cinematic style works really well for console RPGs and while I still enjoy more traditional old-school style games, I'd actually like to see more RPGs emulate the Final Fantasy style.
It's for this reason that I'm looking forward to Dragon Warrior VIII even though I've never played any of the other games in the series.

I recently participated in the World of Warcraft (WoW) MMORPG stress test beta. It was open for a little over a week. I've been playing MMORPGs since Ultima Online first came out ... and besides UO, I have not enjoyed any of the more recent games such as EQ, DAoC, SWG, and so forth as they are all just to boring for me.
I've been waiting for World of Warcraft, as Bilzzard is usually solid, and after playing alongside my bro for a week, I have to say the game is FUN. Plain and simple. It eliminates needless downtime that all other MMORPGs have. You can solo with any class if you want. You are constantly doing quests that yield good EXP AND nice items (which you can pick from - not just 1 item per quest), the quests are fun and involving and have the Blizzard humor/style to them. The graphics are very nice and the world is colorful and fun to look at. All the classes seem to be varied well enough and PvP/raiding was fun.
If you are an MMORPG fan or looking for a good one to start with, then look for World of Warcraft. I believe the release date is aiming for November ... but Open Beta should be around sometime in October.

I just picked up Morrowind for the PC. Game of the Year addition.
First the bad.
Combat needs to be worked on. I hope they totally revamp it for Elder Scrolls 4. Straight hack and slash would have been better.
Also, the character designs suck. Badly. Everybody looks hideous.
And the journal is a mess.
Thats pretty much it. This game is gorgeous. I'm talking about, jaw-droppingly gorgeous. Its just amazing, the size and detail of this land. The quests are very fun. I know I haven't even scratched the surface, and I completed over a dozen. I'm looking forward to more. Right now I'm a ranger/fighter dude, like I always am. :p Anyway, this game just plain rocks.

Goldeneye is out on all formats. Its not a sequel to Goldeneye so don't get your hopes up. They have just used the Goldeneye name as a marketing tool and to get a gimmick in the game (the rouge agent you play as has a special golden eye). The game itself is ok but nothing new to the first person genre. Everyone should know this game is not made by Rare like the previous Goldeneye and has nothing to do with the N64 classic.
As well as this I have also just bought GTA for the GBA. Try saying that several t imes when your drunk ;)

Starfox Assault - rented and played through it. It's good. I like it better than Starfox 64, and it's miles ahead of the frustrating Starfox Adventures. But I still feel like they haven't been able to capture the fun of the original game... And like in Starfox 64, any mission that isn't flying in an arwing feels like a letdown. One thing to note is that the multiplayer is actually good, not a drab afterthought(like, say, in Metroid Prime 2). You can put in whatever vehicles you want, so you can jump in an arwing to try and blast your friends from above, sending them scurrying for cover. I don't see it having the lasting interest of something like Timesplitters 3, but it's pretty cool.

Just got SSX on Tour and Resident Evil 4 over the last few days, Both games are great. I have always enjoyed the SSX series and the ski & custom rider options are great add ons. This is a must buy if you are a fan of the series. Now Resident Evil 4 has to be one of the best games I have played in the last 5 years with it's simple game play and outstanding graphics. Its to hard to step away from RE4 once you are taken in.

Rented Revenge Of The SIth, King Kong and Half-Life 2.
ROTS is terribly boring and really sluggish. Big disappointment.
Haven't played KK yet.
I'm just not feeling it with Half-Life. It's very well-designed but the setting, weapons and enemies aren't interesting me.

For my PC (which was almost not up to the task, I have to admit). FEAR is a very good, sometimes very creepy FPS, with a very impressive AI and excellent level design, though the environements, enemies and weapons get very repetitive.

Thanks for the info. That means I won't be getting this game. The same happened (apparently, haven't played it yet) with the latest CastleVania installment: very repetitive environments. However, if you, by any chance, have played it, I'd like your opinion.

Thread hasn't seen any action in a while...
Picked up Super Mario Sunshine, Ninja Gaiden, and Gran Turismo 4 this weekend.
Haven't gotten to Ninja Gaiden yet, but Mario is more fun than I thought it'd be.
Gran Turismo is everything it ought to be. Although it is the only game I've ever played that made me wish the PS2 controller had trigger buttons like the XBox. My thumb is killing me from jamming on the accelerator button.

My local Sears is having a huge game sale, (maybe yours as well, I would check) all Gamecube games 50% off plus a crapload of PS2 and Xbox titles. I bought MGS3 and Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour for $10 a piece.
As for the "played recently" I've dusted of Deus Ex and am playing that again.

I bought Death by Degrees about 2 weeks ago and right when I got home I started playing and didn't even get past the tutorial and had to take it back. It had glitches and kept freezing up and I couldn't play. So I got another one and now I've played for 20 hours and now I need to take it back because of glitches. But I don't have the exchange reciept. I lost it. I almost beat the game once, too.

1. Hulk: Ultimate Destruction- pretty awesome, only went through a few levels before I dropped it, not because of uninterest, but because I picked up...
2. Warriors- Super cool game, liked the action, liked the tone. I'm a fan of the film too. The last 6 or 7 levels are the actual movie, not something I expected at all. haven't beat it yet, but I will.
3. X-Men Legends 2- Damn cool game thus far, only on act 2 though. The control scheme is a little different, so it took some getting used to but all in all, definitely a BA game. Something about playing Iceman in his OG costume really makes my nerd meter rise.

Rather different from the previous games though.

Quick Q, is it THAT awesome? RE4 that is? Game Informer rated it a 10 (which never happens). I was thinking of adding it to the top of my list but I never really enjoyed the first few incarnations of the game. Tell me why you think it's good to give me a better idea.

I've been meaning to buy this but I heard it doesn't have the characters from the first one or Covenant. :( I gots to get my Yuri fix! Oh, well, it's Shadow Hearts so I'm bound to pick it up eventually.
I bought Lost Magic the other day and my GOD it's hard. I didn't realize you could fight random battles until like 3 hours into it, haha. The story is so cliche, too. But oh well, it has cute art! :D

Hey all. I play a TON of different games, though most of them are FPS's my most dominant game is: Guild Wars. I also play a lot of:
Call of Duty2, Joint Operations, Battlefield Vietnam, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, demo of Battlefield2.
I have quite a few installed, though not played in awhile... Far Cry, Doom3, Brothers in Arms, Star Wars Battlefront and Battlegrounds (along with a demo for Empire at War), Diablo, Madden06, NHL06, NBA Live06, Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, Navyfield, OG Call of Duty, Call of Duty: United Offensive, NASCAR Simracing, and Tiger Woods 05.
I play these all on my laptop, with a wireless network. Not the best, wired would be better, but mobility is key for me, so... I see that most here seem to play mostly RPGs and console games, any hardcore PC gamers, and FPS junkies, like myself???

It really is THAT awesome. I listened to the hype and bought the game, at first I thought it was pretty cool, but I didn't get into it. Then I started to play it again, and it seriously grew on me. It has a brilliant story, brilliant gameplay, brilliant everything. The bosses are excellent, it doesn't contain terrible puzzles that a Resident Evil game usually would, (though it still contains some, which are a nice change of pace). If you have the money, I would recommend it to you.

Wait until you get to the main plot. You'll understand then.
Well, right now I'm playing Atlier Iris 2: Azoth of Destiny. Not a very long game, but it's fun in it's simplicity and its humor. Not every game gives you a love-lorn womanizing pixie with a gun. And a sword that sounds like Odo from DS9.

I'm playing Space Rangers 2. It's like a drug that one.
So good, but it keeps me from doing ANYTHING else all day long.
I've also started playing FF6 for the first time, following all the praise it's gotten here. I'm currently at the point when I just got into that guy's ship by pretending to be a famous opera singer and now we're about to raid the Empire or something. It's been fun, I guess, but the world map is extremely aggravating.

Rebelstar, a strategy wargame for the GBA. Somewhat like Advance Wars or Fire Emblem but vastly more complicated. You command a squad of soldiers in a scifi setting. You get to pick their weapons and decide what skills to enhance as they level up. It's frustrating at first due to complexity and non-userfriendliness, and it sometimes has that annoying "lose a character and the mission is over" rule as in Fire Emblem. But it's an interesting game and a very deep simulation of combat.

Mega Man Battle Network 6.
So far it feels like they've recaptured some of the fun of this series. The cyberworld is a lot nicer looking and I'm enjoying it a bit more than 4 and 5.

I agree it's good. the main plot especially is cool with some interesting scifi stuff. Much better than the "step backwards" gameplay of FF9, then again that's the kind of play the rpg crowd seems to want, look at the way they lapped up dragon quest 8.
The junction system's actually pretty complex if you really get into it, literally the most customizeable system ever.
