I was interested in this series but I didn't pick up issue 1 until 2 just came out. So I got them both on Saturday. Kind of your typical revenge type story. Samurai involved in last fight with his countrymen against his lord's rival. They are mostly slaughtered except for our hero. His girl is taken prisoner and he vows to find her and kill the enemy who took her. He finds out her tongue was cut out and she was sold to a slaver after he kills warlord Hasio.
Kind of a predictable, generic story but these first two issues have been good so far and the artwork is quite beautiful. I'll keep getting them just to see what happens.

I loved the first two issues.
You should check out the Ron Marz forum. It's got a thread about the issues, and Marz takes part in the discussion at times.

Hey, just so we're all clear here, Yoshiko's tongue was NOT cut out. The samurai, Shiro, never even saw her in issue #2 (actually, she didn't appear in issue #2 at all).
Thanks for picking up the issues, Nikita. Hope you stick around. In my mind, it's more a love story than a revenge story ... but of course, I know how it ends.

It wasn't? Sorry, my mistake. I could have sworn I saw somewhere that they cut her tongue out because she was "too headstrong" or something. My bad. (are you the creator?....sorry, I forget that some of the posters on this message board are actually the creators of the very comics we are reading....that still completely weirds me out....I also read a comic called MU and another poster on here creates that one) I'm still "learning" comics and this message board so I still have no idea who certain people on here are. My apologies.
I just picked up issue 3 this past Saturday. It was great. I loved The Three Muskateers twist. I have to admit the artwork is quite detailed and beautiful. I like revenge stories but they tend to be "overdone" since sooo many comics use that story angle, so when I first picked up Samurai, I was kind of like, eh...another revenge story. But, it's growing on me. It's getting more interesting as it goes along. (and yeah, I admit, I'm a sucker for tragic love stories too)

Wow, cool! You know the other thing is, since I've been out of comics for so many years (I only got back into them a little over a year ago), I'm not familier with artists and writers who've been around a while or even newer writers and artists. I still confuse who's who. I tend to focus on the stories so much that I kind of ignore who's written what. I'm getting better at remembering some names but it's taking me a while.
Anyway, I look forward to the coming issues. I am insanely jealous of you and your team's creativity on this comic. I hope it is selling well for you guys.

You know, Nikita, there's absolutely nothing wrong with not knowing the creative team. Focusing on the stories is really what it's all about, isn't it? I sometimes think the industry might be better off if we went back to the days of caring more about the stories than who's telling them.

Now Ron, don't be getting all crazy like....
