This is by far my favorite manga. Ken Akamatsu is a friggin genius. he's the one who created Love Hina. If you are not familiar with this manga it's about a 10 year old prodigy wizard in traing that goes to Japan to teach at an all girls school. The story line is amazing and I suggest it to anyone who is familiar with Love Hina. I have a link to where you can read it and I'll post it when I remember where I wrote it down.

Ken Akamatsu is talented but I have to agree with you that all of his mangas appear to be the same. A young man dropped into a females world. Gives you the feeling that the story should revert to hentai at one point or another. I recently started reading Gantz and that story line is always changing. But that can be said about anything. To each his own.

While she hasn't appeared in the main story yet even several volumes later what I read up to she is indeed a ghost according to english volume 4's sketch pages on the same page as Kazumi

In it's defense, the main protagonist is just a kid so there really isn'tmuch romantic interest for him. The only person who seems geuinely interested is Nodoka, and he saved her life. The others just enjoy messing with him, except for the class rep, she's just plain creepy and has a little brother fixation on him. The series is more like a Harry Potter manga with alot of fan service.

Like we said ... It was like Ken realized in volume 2 that he was just rewriting LH and took a big eraser to it . After that it got much better with magic fights, martial arts ,and monsters . Like was said before Harry Potter with fan service with a bit of Naruto ,Streetfighter ,Trigun etc mixed in ..

That's the beauty of it. While it's essentially Harry potter with fan service, it includes elements of just about every other kind of anime. It's got a robot girl, martial artists, ninjas, and even demons and vampires. It's not overwhelmingly deep or psychological, but I'm not looking for another Deep Blue or Big O here.

Yeah supposedly she's appears in the manga around the chap 70's but none of the scan I found go up that high (66 was highest I found) And I can't find the raws either .

Well, I've got a link to a site somewhere that has up until the 8th book(I think). I'll post that when I find it. But that the only way that this girl could exist because they show sweeping views of all the girls in the class and I could not find her. Oh well we'll find that out when the mangas are released.

Actually, AI Love You is more like Love Hina meets Weird Science (the movie/tv show about the computer nerds who create a sexy AI genie). And it has more romance in a single than all of Love Hina put together in my opinion. It's just that most of the time, it's comedic little slice of life stories, like a sitcom, but when they have a romantic moment, it can be surprisingly moving.

I would definitely recommend it. The "Little Mermaid" arc damn near moved me to tears and I'm known, even among my own family, for being notoriously indifferent to the plights of fictional characters (it's rare that any series can bring me to tears, Grave of the Fireflies only got about one or two tear drops out of me).

Not really. As mentioned, Negima is like Harry Potter with fan service and takes elements from a bunch of different anime. AI has an epsisodic feel for the most part with little mini-arcs here and there. It's also a comedy/romance with sci-fi elements.

For fan service, read Love Hina. Every time Keitaro ends up in a situation that flashes a girl's panties, or shows off her boobs and/or figure is fan service. It's basically stuff meant to titillate while being just shy of soft-core porn.

There were originally 9 volumes of AI Love You. The English graphic volumes are a little larger than the Japanese ones, allowing them to translate the entire series in just 8 volumes. Volumes 1-7 are already out (I know because I have them) and the next release will be the final one which includes all of the final story arc.

Pretty cool. Now I know what fan service is and realize how much of it is in Negima!. Nevertheless, even without fan service, Negima! would still be a good manga. Though FS adds something to a manga. Wonder how they are going to fit it in the anime. They may have to sell it as TV-MA.

That's crap! I don't like how people change the orientation of Mangas when they switch em over to anime. With Gantz everything in the manga was included and it was on 17+. The FS wouldn't be that bad because they could do what they do in the manga, like hiding nipples and such by glares of light or hair.

it seems when Asuna was little she traveled a lot with Nagi and his companions .... One of which was training Takamachi ( who was a badass in the tourny ) in some magic+ki techinque .... Little Asuna watched them and was able to do the tech ...perfectly after only observing it once ! ( Surprised the heck out of Taka )

Yeah the manga is definitely better for the most part, a few stories did actually seem to be improved upon from it though. Like the introduction of Sayo, and the ep where the cheerleaders were following Negi and Konoka around on their "date."

Read 101, apparently the hooded guy wasn't Nagi like many probably suspected, but rather the younger guy in the photo at Nagi's home in Kyoto. He's also apparently as big a pervert as Chamo (but with a Lolita-complex, or maybe he just likes embarrassing Eva), and is described by Chachazero as one of Master's two natural enemies. Three guesses on who number two is.

As amusing as they were, the rampant panty shots actually detracted from Asuna and Setsuna's battle for me. You'd think they would have worn bike shorts or something.

Don't worry. Vol. 1 and 2 are lacking in the action department, but things pick up big time vol. 3 and afterwards is a three volume story arc that's full of action.

This scene has been confusing me lately. It was stated during her match with Setsuna that even though she'd regained a little power thanks to the World Tree physically Eva-chan is only on about the level of a normal middle school student right now, and she can't use magic or ki to enhance herself. She was able to fight against Setsuna thanks to the fact that Se-chan was holding back so much and using her aikido and puppetry skills, and she took out that one guy in the preliminaries pretty much the same way. But how the heck was she able hit this guy that hard in her weakened state?

There's hardly any action in the first two volumes, but after that point it starts to gradually increase...

The anime is half-hearted (I blame the fact that they brought it out waaaaay too soon, same as with FMA, if the damn manga ain't even up to 10 volumes before you start production of an anime, you're jumping the gun ). Didn't help that the animation was crap-on-a-stick... I swear old episodes of Saint Seiya and Ronin Warriors had smoother animation than some of those early Negima episodes. :(

Thankfully, the manga is the shiznit! And while he hasn't gotten to all the girls yet as of about 15 volumes worth of stories (already the same # as Love Hina, originially his longest series), the ones he has gotten to have been fleshed out nicely, and many of them have sub-plots and secrets to be revealed.

well i havn't sleept since that last message and had most of the day freee so i have gone from chapter 15 to somewhere around chapter 80 (school festival arc)

well... yes the anime just feels so poor in comparison to the manga ... the one thing thats letting it down at the moment is there isn't enough eva .... yet again a loli vampire has stolen my heart as i doo like the lovably evil charactors

oh well here hoping for a much bigger apperance of here later on and perhaps a bit more depth to some more of the charactors there are still some that really need more depth but hopefully that will come with time

oh and yes faaaaaaar more fan service .... i am a happy man

In this case of FMA I've heard that it was planned from the beginning that the anime would eventually go in a different direction from the manga. I'm actually glad they did since there are a lot of things about the anime version I really like...

FMA was a class above most shows (or at least a lot of straight shonen action shows) right from the thrid episode of the anime you could tell this wasn't going to be run of the mill ....

i think that show only suffer in transition from manga to anime if they are being made into anime just to cash in on it's sucsess or even just the fame of the creator

in the case of negima although there are some small section i liked in the anime and i found the ending twist mildly intresting .. it does just feel like a cheap cash in ... and 70% of the class become nothing more than background noise

mind you after catching up with the manga i am now kinda intrested to see where it goes... but i must say i'm not that intrested in the overarcing plot ... i find the best parts are the charactor interactions.

i'm hoping for a bit more sillyness and a lot more eva in the up commimg chapters...
though i may have to draw myself a charactor profile guide just so i can keep up with all the changes

to be honest... Negima i s not an amazing title. lots of people rag on love hina but i defend it because it has a lot of "heart". negima feels very clinical and contrived to me. it's so well produced and slick that it feels that th story should match. but it doesn't. the main character is a kid being flashed by teenage girls 24/7. the magic elements are... ok. i'm not particularly impressed but it's getting much better. the first 2-3 volumes are hard for me to read over.

i have 1-7 and plan to buy #8 tomorrow but this title is not in my top 5 list. #6 was prboably my fav, when setsuna revealed herself...

i think a lot of the main charactors really need more screen time and a bit more depth. you can see that there is quite possibly a lot of back story with many of the charactors but i don't know if this will be explored of mearly hinted at. to be honest although i like it i wasn't overly impresed with the tournament arc as i much perfer the comedic banter between charactors but the personality of the characotrs and the style given to it managed to pull it through ... the only problem now is that there is about 4 sub stories that need to be pulled together and clarified

i like negima but only time will tell how good it is

oh and yes kaede is a great charator second only to eva in my taste

Kaede Nagase is easily my favorite character of the series.

Then you might want to stick around for her big fight with Sanders during the tournament arc. She fights the strongest character in the series we've seen so far (aside from maybe Eva but he has her outclassed in sheer variety), actually forces him to get serious, and she still did better against him than the main hero (Negi) and his rival (Koutaro).

But then, it would be "Love Hina with five times the girls." Negi being a kid allows him to play around with a lot more of the old conventions of romantic and harem animes. For example, the scenes in the first volume when he gets mass-cuddled would not have happened if he were 15. The fact that Negi is a kid allows many of the girls a lot more freedom in expressing their affections than they would be with a boy their age. Later volumes(I would say maybe 10-11) actually show us an older Negi(no, it's not a time skip), and the girls who met Negi acted a whole lot differently towards him. Even some of the ones who didn't see him as a teen changed their perceptions and behaviors toward Negi just from realizing how small the age gap between Negi and themselves actually is, given time...(and a general idea about how he's going to look)

but as is, it makes me wonder WTF is this series about? i want akumatsu to move on to another manga already but this thing will probably last another decade. whatever, it has potential to get better i suppose.

Offhand, I would say that it's about teaching and learning. Specifically, Negi teaching the girls, and learning from them as well. A good example of this is Makie's arc in Vol. 7, where Negi learns kenpo from Fei Ku, in order to get Eva to teach him magic and magic combat. In the process, he teaches Makie about what determination and focus are.

the whole point IMO of Love Hina was how they changed because of Keitaro (from bitchy and annoying to caring friends). Motoko was one of my favs because she changed completely.

naru was indeed a very frustrating character but i thought she was good. with her, the whole point was that she is womanly perfection. keitaro had no business being with her until he earned it.

Of course they could do different things like the books . I'd say maybe gives her a quick focus no chant barrage attack like the anime . Need more longe rangers in the group anyway .

It seems the general rule of thumb is that whatever is on the card that's not normal is their pactio item. Konoka's artifact, for example, is that entire outfit, fans and all.

So I would guess that Yue's artifact could very well be the entire enemble. This could actually mean that Yue has great magic potential.

Alternately, it could just be the hat.

#1: It's her grandfather's hobby to set her up on O-mai's.

#2: She's not ready/looking for any kind of relationship. At the moment, her feelings toward Setsuna are only at "Favoritest Person in the Whole Wide World." It can go further than that, but first she has to grow up a bit. That, and Setsuna(who, BTW, has been showing most of the physical attraction in this couple) has to get over her hang-ups.

I also noticed that Bleach has a similar sort of thing going. This is different from western superheroes that already have everything they need via off-panel training, mutation, science accident or alien parentage. Ala Batman, X-Men, the Flash, or Superman.

And even though the X-Men are shown training every now and then in the Danger room, it's more of an aside to set the stage for witty banter . The training is not integral to the story.

Based on this, I'd say that the idea that you can increase skill, as opposed to relying soley on talent, seems to be more eastern than western.

Having seen Nemo's RAW, HOLY CRAP!!! :eek: No wonder DW couldn't find any safe pics! Most of the chap was Eva trying to seduce the kid!

Sure enough volume five ends with the 42nd chapter (or issue or period or whatever) but volume six picks up with the 44th one. Did anyone else notice this or did I get a defective copy? Just checked it out and apparently 42 and 43 are both part of a double chapter, they end with Konoka healing Setsuna after she was hit by an arrow defending her.

I've sorta fallen out of line with this manga. Been quite busy the past year and haven't had time for it. Though recently, I looked at some of the anime episodes from the beginning of the series, but it really didn't interest me. They were very well done and right up to the story line in the manga, but I found it lacking in the excitement that reading the manga incited. Have any of you guys seen the anime?

I've seen some of the episodes and Ep#19 (I <3 Sayo) of Negima! and the first eight or so episodes of Negima!?...

While I haven't developed much of an opinion on the series, the general consensus I've seen from people who have watched the entire series seems to be that the anime spinoffs of Negima! could've been better.


On the topic of Negima! spinoffs... can someone tell me if this is some cruel joke?

Yes, and truthfully, none of it is as good as the manga.
