OK, I hadn't seen a Thread like this but I'm thinking, why not just put out a little X-survey:
List your 5 favorite X-Men or X-villians (obscure, prominent, it doesn't matter) and your favorite story/arc with them
List your 5 least favorite X-Men or X-villain and why.

My top 5:
1. Kitty (well duh) who I'm currently enjoying in the Whedon run but was neat as a big part of the Phoenix saga. I need to get more Kitty related stuff, actually.
2. Colossus whose awesome return bumps him up from my previous not too imense enjoyment.
3. Magneto is such a freaking complex character that I love him. He's consistently written poorly but when written right he has more bite than most any other villian in the Marvel Universe. As a kid I really enjoyed X-Men 25 where he ripped out Wolverine's adamantium, I think mainly because I thought the concept was insanely brutal. The movie versions been written really well too.
4. Madrox is one that probably wouldn't have popped up before his last mini but the whole concept of him and his clones going off and living different lives is really neat. I remember picking up X-Factor 100 as a kid and that being the first time I saw him and thinking he was neat but of course I didn't really follow up on it cause, well he died.
5. Wolverine when used right and in moderation would probably be even higher than this. He's just such a freaking awesome character but he needs to be used less now. I loved him without the adamantium because I think with it he might be just a bit too strong. Him dealing with being weaker than before I thought was a really strong storyline. I remember this Wolverine issue where he fought Deadpool and Deadpool did some brutal like ripping out a lung or something and he came back in the end with the healing factor, that always struck me as really awesome.
Honorable mentions: The Phoenix Force, Rogue, Cyclops
Least favorite
1. Emma Frost is a cool villian but man as an X-Man? The headmistress no less? I just can't stand her. She acts like such a freaking jerk to pretty much everyone and just gets away with it because she's her. She just gets under my skin.
2. Storm is someone I've just never ever got into but I can't point to a concrete reason why. I think she's been written really poorly in most cases. I don't like her power, it almost seems like a total cop-out that she can do ANYTHING weather related and they just have her pull things out sometimes to resolve things. She seems too powerful to be in the X-Men... like she belongs in The Avengers or something because she's just such a freaking powerhouse but doesn't use it most of the time because it doesn't fit the story.
3. Cable is a character I just never got into that got really hot at some point.
4. Maggot just didn't work as a character in general. I never really got what they were going for with him
5. Angel seems rather... uninteresting most of the time and obnoxious a lot of the rest of the time. The whole Archangel thing never worked for me either.

Magneto: X-men 200, also savage land w/Rogue
Wolverine: X-men 205. Definitive wolverine tale.
Illyana Rasputin: I'm in love with her, even though she's dead.
X-Man. Cool but dead.
Arcangel: He's cool and blue. He became cool when he became bad, and when he became good again. I think my favorite is the one when he kills Cameron Hodge, but also the Marvel Fanfare when he falls into an elderly woman's backyard.
Hate:
1.Gambit. He's evil.
2. Acolytes (except for Frenzy). Lame Lame Lame.
3. Cameron hodge. Good thing he's dead.
4. Can't think of anymore. I know they're out there, though.

Deadpool . Villain or evil ??Whatever he is just awesome and without inhibitions . His whole serie , minis , even guest appearance are great so its hard picking a favorite .. but i'd say my favs moments are when he got titania and constrictor as co-ed , a funny homage to sitcoms like seinfeld and friends . I also loved that issue where he had tom cruise's face , because of a curse of Loki .
Sorry to salvage your post , but i wouldnt say it better :D
Wolverine .
Illyana Rasputin : she should be brought back
Kitty pride .
Hated characters :
Marrow ... lame as a villain ,even lamer as a "hero" . A pathetic trial imo to create a female wolverine with all of his attitude but horridly exagerated . She even manage to have the same arch nemesis than logan : Sabretooth .
Maggot . despite his grotesque appearance and powers i wanted to give him a chance . But no he had to be a moron with some secret involving Magneto kept for so long , wich once revealed , along his past , was quite lame . Glad he died , and should stay dead forever .
Nurse Annie : cant stand her , and got in the way of Havok and Polaris
and probably a few i cant remember yet

2. Acolytes (except for Frenzy). Lame Lame Lame.
Yay, I like the way you think. =D
My top 5 (mostly obscure villains...):
- Phantazia (favorite moment - showing her power off by shutting Cannonball's force field down and allowing Sauron to "kill" him)
- Freakshow (favorite moment - barfing Unus up and reverting to human form, being all bashful in his undies)
- War (favorite moment - when Angel healed him of his paralysis and gave him another chance at living life the right way)
- Famine (favorite moment - her first appearance, where she destroyed all the food around her and her parents yelled at her)
- Frenzy (favorite moment - her first appearance, where she tried to kidnap Rusty and fought all of X-Factor by herself)
Honorable mentions to: Anaconda, Shinobi Shaw, Hellion, Avalanche, Mastermind II, Madrox, the Kleinstock Brothers, Siena Blaze, Thumbelina, Angel, Sara Grey, etc.
My bottom 5:
- Emma Frost (she's just not a good character, she's basically just there for eye candy)
- Prodigy's sister (annoyed the CRAP out of me)
- Mammomax (I hate this "fanbase" he achieved, he's a LAME VILLAIN, and that's no reason to like him!)
- Hub & Hack (gooood they're annoying in Excalibur)
- Annie (again, annooooying)

Top 5:
1. Jubilee (how can you not love her)
2. Madrox mini made me like him a lot more (just read thorough a lot of his today)
3.Emma Frsot - She's such a bitch, and that is why I love her.
4. Shadow cat/Kitty/Sprite/Ariel whatever you want to call her, she is pretty powerful and also has been great in AXM
5.Deadpool - he's just sp funny.
Hated
1.Gambit- he has a stupid accent and is just gennerally annoying.
Sage- I basically have no idea what she is/does. I know she is quite popular here, it's jus as I didn't read XXM I have no idea about her or what she does.
3. Rogue - She just basically whines about her powers.
4. Maggot, never read a comic with him in, never want to L-A-M-E.
5. Storm - the whole Godess crap just annoys me immensly.

why would you dislike Maggott if you have never read a comic with him in it?
I've only read a few and I put him on my list because... well, what the crap were they thinking? That character was horrible and even if I was just going on hearsay I can see how I'd still think so.

Cuz I've read a lot about him, I'm only a new reader and not many people are on my hate list really, he just sounds (and from the covers I've seen) and looks so crap.

Okay; my faves:
1) Colossus. The gentle giant. He's flawed, but he's sincere, and there's a depth to him that only a few writers seem to fully get(Claremont, possibly Whedon).
2) Kitty. Actually I can't break the tie between her and Peter. She's always been the most accessible member of the team, the one with whom I could relate most easily.
3) Nightcrawler. Sense of humor, movie buff, man of faith. I like multi-dimensional characters, what can I say?
4) Magneto. Most developed villain in history. Sometimes good, sometimes evil, sometimes both at once. Never boring.
5) Wolverine. Although I'd cut down on the number of books he appears in. Another case of 'more to him than he seems'. Thug, but with a romantic side and a deep sense of honor.
Honorable mention: Emma Frost, but only as a member of the Hellfire Club.
Least faves:
1) Cable. Heavy ordinance and bulging biceps don't equal character development!
2) Toad. You're kiddin', right?
3) Gambit. Over-exposed, and doesn't have that much going for him.
4) Cyclops. But his stats may improve if he wises up and dumps Emma.
5) The Stepford Cuckoos. Too creepy for words.
Oh, and IGKP, love the icon. My all-time favorite single issue of X-Men!

02-17-2005, 03:13 PM
Favorite:
1. Cable- maybe my favorite character ever. I have some long time childhood favorites but Cable might have them beat in my book. has had to overcome alot.
2. Wolverine- tough as nails. really one of the coolest creations ever.
3. Cyclops- Team leader
4. Jean Grey- I just love her because...because
5. Apocalypse- Arch enemy of Cable. These 2 might fight till the end of time.
Least ( I don't hate any)
1. Gambit- just don't like his attitude, and he is shady on top of it.
2. Maggot- no explanation needed right?
3. Psylocke- just a horrible character. probably least favorite character.
4. Sage- seems popular. don't know much about her. she may grow on me.
5. Emma Frost- I like her, but I don't know if I trust her as an X-Man.

Top Five Favorites:
1. Jean Grey. It's hard to nail down what my favorite story involving her is, but I think I'll have to go with New X-men 'Planet X' arc. She was amazing in those issues.
2.Cyclops. Even though I hate his stupid guts lately... I loved him best back in the Dark Phoenix Saga
3. Beast. I can't think of a time when I didn't love Hank Oh wait, except when Stan Lee wrote him because he was sexist. Though I've wanted to kiss him to death in all of X-factor's first run.
4. Cable. Particuarly in the later issues of his on-going and his new series with Deadpool.
5. Rounding out the Summers family is Rachel. She rocks as hard as she possibly can in Excalibur and the "true friends" mini.
Least Favorite:
1. Emma Frost. Always and Forever.
2. Emma in Dark Phoenix Saga.
3. Emma in Generation X
4. Emma in New X-men
5. Emma in Astonishing

Colossus
Kitty
Cyclops
Nightcrawler
Ilyanna
Bottom 5
There are a ton of side characters that would be the real bottom 5 but as far as the mainstream ones go:
Angel
Iceman
Emma
Gambit
Shadow Crawler
02-20-2005, 07:28 PM
My top 5 (IN this order):
Kitty - She's been my absolute favorite for so long. Several years now. I love her history and many arcs she's been included in. But I HATE that Pete Wisdom was ever brought in. I'll toss Lockheed up here with Kitty, since he barely leaves her side.
Deadpool - He was a FABULOUS X-Men for the one issue that he was! It can't be denied.
Jubilee
Nightcrawler - Yay fuzzy elf!
Colossus - He's managed to work his way up there. Especially after he knocked Pete around a bit in Excalibur. =/

favorites:
gambit- gambit (3rd series) 1-25
iceman- operation: zero tolerance issues
chamber- no real favorite issues
cannonball- again no favorite issues really
sabra- late lobdell xmen/uncanny issues
least favorites:
storm- re: under claremont, xxm, recent uncanny
stryfe- re: hes died many times. specific issues of disgust gambit and bishop: sons of the atom 1-6.
thunderbird 3- re: hes worthless
draco- re:self-explanatory
jubilee- re: every appearance

Best
1. Colossus - The best because of his ideals. His relationship with his sister really sets him apart. He's the strongest but arguable has the softest heart, and when he gets angry, it's on. And I will always detest Lobdell for killing him in the first place. Best arcs: Mutant Massacre and Fatal Attractions era.
2. Wolverine - Duh. Best arcs: again, Mutant Massacre, first round against Brood, and first mini.
3. Magneto - Can be great in the hands of a good writer, because his viewpoints can make some sense. Good in X-Men Unlimited 2(?), 1-3 of 2nd Series.
4. Nightcrawler - I like him for many of the same reasons I like Colossus.
5. Apocalypse - He has be severely mishandled in recent years, but I enjoy him as a villian. Best in AOA.
Worst
1. Joseph - Really no contest for me.
2. Cable - Has had his moments from time to time, but is exsistence as a character is so rooted in the Liefeld "tough guy with huge guns and attitude" era I just never could like him too much. And time travel in any medium makes my head hurt.
3. Rachel - ditto on the time travel. It just seems like she is a character that served a purpose for an initial run of stories and now is just...there.
4. Mojo - greatly dislike all things Mojoverse (I'm looking at you, Longshot and X-babies).
5. Marrow - Her characterization has been so all over the map, you can't feel any familiarity with her.

Favorite 5 X-Men
1. Wolverine (Uncanny X-Men #132-134)
2. Jean Grey/ Phoenix (New X-MEn #114-126)
3. Beast (Uncanny X-Men #135-137)
4. Cyclops (Uncanny X-Men #132-137)
5. Xorn (New X-Men #127, 146-150)
Favorite X-Men Villains
1. Magneto (X-Men: God Loves, Man Kills)
2. Dark Phoenix (Uncanny X-Men #135-136, these two issues are enough to establish her as an all time great villain.)
3. Cassandra Nova (New X-Men #114-126)
4. Ultimate Weapon X (Ultimate X-Men #7-12)
5. The Sentinels (Uncanny X-Men #141-142)
I really don't have least-favorite characters, maybe as a result of my avoiding the more unpopular X runs (ie- Austen's run, most Clarmeont comics of the last ten years.)

FAVORITES:
Exodus. "Bloodties," when Exodus basically took down The Avengers such as War Machine and Sersi easily and (what I thought) killed Fabian Cortez.
Holocaust. "The Age of Apocalypse" miniseries showed how dangerous this nihlist was, and then in the mainstream Marvel Universe he killed several Acolytes and defeated Exodus.
Wolverine. Before I got sick of looking at him in the early 1990s, Logan was my favorite X-Man from 1979 through 1989. Favorite Wolverine moment was when Logan took on The Hellfire Club after he was believed dead.
Mister Sinister. I remember when he first came on the scene and promptly destroyed the Xavier Mansion.
Sebastian Shaw. His first appearance with The Hellfire Club, where he took down Colossus very easily and wondered what it would be like to take on Thor. A grand sense of arrogance and thirst for power.
DISLIKES:
Kitty Pryde. She was Chris Claremont's first all-everything, deus ex machina female character. She's a ninja expert who is incredibly intelligent and trained at S.H.I.E.L.D. At one point, there was an unsubstantiated rumored that she was considered a potential member of the Fantastic Four. All that as a teen-ager.
Sage. The current Claremont deus ex machina female character. OK, she can process and catalog information with computer-like efficiency who also has telepathy and also can jumpstart mutant powers and also can control her body to the point where she is a killing machine. IMO, there is no synergy to her powers.
Stacy-X. An ugly, demonic-looking prostitute who had no purpose.
Marrow. A female Wolverine, the frontrunner to the equally repetitive X-23.
Gambit and Rogue. I counted them together, because they both are sickening together.

Eh, there's one in every crowd.
Actually, SJ, Claremont had originally planned for Kitty to sign on with the FF during his run on that book, not as an actual member, but as a live-in babysitter for Franklin Richards. Bob Harras, then-editor of the X-books, told Claremont that they wanted Kitty back in the main team, so instead he introduced a female AU counterpart to Captain Britain. Let's face it, the only good thing that came out of Claremont's FF was that's where he first worked with Salvador LaRocca.
And while I'll admit that Kitty may be something of an over-achiever, when you're running with the likes of Wolverine, Colossus and Phoenix, you need every edge you can get! Personally I think Joss Whedon has a handle on her; more than capable as a heroine, but still all too human and fallible (in AXM #7 she acknowledged concern over her preoccupation with Piotr).
Reptisaurus!
02-21-2005, 11:28 PM
Faves:
1. Nightcrawler. Like the religious angle, like the potential horror-type overtones, like the attitude. A really complex character who I still don't think has been explored fully.
2. Stepford Cuckoos: "The Popular kids" as autonomous collective entity? That's some good metaphorin'.
2. Kitty: I'm *such* a sucker for cute l'il teenage sidekicks. And I dig Whedon's portrayal immensely.
4. Karma: Trying to live a normal life while packing the most intrusive, and one of the most dangerous mutant powers of anyone. Always dug her.
5. Douglock: Credit where credits due, this was one bizzare idea... The kind we just don't see enough of now-a-days. A bot and his psyonically bonded robot pal. How sweet.
Erik Lehnsherr
02-22-2005, 03:29 PM
Magneto- Basically, the greatest mutant in history. He's not evil or good. He's just a realist and that's why everything he has ever said has come to pass sooner rather than later.
Sinister- Once Magneto turns tweener or depending on the aftermath of "House of M", he should be the biggest villian to torment the X-Men for years to come. I NEED more Sinister stories. The "Weapon X" stuff was fun but let his greatness continue. X-Men Annual '95, X-Man #19, and Weapon X #14 are some of my favorite reads ever.
Stryfe- Should of never died and never at the hands of one as weak as Cable. It wasn't even believable. After X-Cutioner's Song, he had the potential to be the best Angst-ridden villian in the X-Universe. But he was hated on and screwed over. Pure stupidity.
Nate Grey- The most powerful mutant in recent history should of never died and should be a intergalatic mutant. He was doing well before they decided to kill him off. To have a trash character like Cable exist and he be gone is disgusting.
Sebastian Shaw- This guy should be screwing with not only the X-Men but the Avengers, Iron Man, and Spider-Man. He has his business to help cover up his crimes. He could be a very good "Luthor" type of villian.
Don't care much for the heroes. A little too boring. Enough with the Wolverines and Cyclops'. They're boring and need a major character overhaul.

Favorites:
1. Polaris- X-Factor #87, where she was like, "Aren't you going to call me fat?!" Enough said.
2. Havok- Uncanny X-Men #339, where he gave that great speech about no longer being in Scott's shadow (he was brainwashed at the point, but it was cool nevertheless).
3. Northstar- Alpha Flight #406, where he was like, "In case you didn't take the obvious hints 5 years ago, I'm gay."
4. Magik- New Mutants #73, where she sacrificed her(teenage)self and finally overcame her dark side.
5. Madelyne Pryor- Uncanny X-Men #241, where she was like, "F**k Sinister and Scott for messing with me: I'm going to go Inferno on yo a$$!"
Least Favorites:
1. Nurse Annie- She messed with Alex and Lorna, so that's a no-brainer.
2. Cyclops- I can't forget that he cheated on Jean, and walked out on Madelyne and his own son. That's some serious sh!t.
3. Cable- He didn't care about rescuing Rusty and Skids, got Warlock killed, and let Rictor and Sunspot walk out the door, not caring whatsoever. D**k.
4. Angel- He's a waste of paper because he doesn't do sh!t.
5. Stacy-X- Cooter skank.

Hm. Top 3 pretty much set in stone, but right now:
Top 5
1. Jean/Phoenix- far and away my fav. Favorite arc UXM 98-108.
2. Magneto- such a cool villain. Favorite arc X-men v2 1-3
3. Wolverine- good tragic character. Favorite arc- none in particular
4. Kitty Pryde- spunky teenager. Favorite arc- Astonishing X-men 1-13.
5. Beast- furry genius. Favorite arc- NXM 120-135.
Bottom 5
1. Stryfe. Because he's the evil doppelganger of a time-displaced kid who was already boring to begin with, and because (of course) he gets mistaken for his twin and theres a Comedy-of-Errors type deal. But not funny. This character should never have existed ever.
2. Cable- see above.
3. Maddie Pryor- see above.
4. Havok & Cyclops- I figured I'd put them together because they've both become wieners. Around the same time too, quite the feat. Ah, Polaris. You are more prophetic then you realize.
5. Emma Frost- because they're writing her like a blond Jean. Do us all a favor and bring back hardcore Emma, the kind of woman who would never be fit to lead an X-team, but who was immensely cooler.

I like a few of the people that are hated on, and vice-versa
Faves
1. Kitty Pryde- she's smart, perky, and can walk through walls, what more could you ask for?
2. Sage- Analytical skills like a crazy woman, can fight and torture, overall just a cool character. I loved her in the first couple arcs of Xtreme X-men
3.Emma- I love her just for the reason most people hate her. Her bitchiness actually fits in well with the rest of the X-men I think, as in they need her overall dry, harsh remarks
4. Cannonball- He's just a nice guy who's a really good character when written well. and I love his power
5. Dust- I love her, I don't know why. She's just insanly awesome in her own quiet way. I think Morrison did a good job writing her, though I'm glad she finally knows english.
Need to Curl up and die:
1. Woverine- never liked him, he's overused and I think it ruins the comics
2. Angel- can anyone say useless.. as Archangel at least he could put up a decent fight.. but COME ON
3. Maggot- 'nuff said
4. Mikhail Rasputin- he's just so blech. And his storylines are a little convoluted and weird.
5. The Blob- he's depowered, but I still hate him
Favorites:
Corsair - He lives in space.
William Drake - His powers are awesome.
X-Baby Gambit - Flash cards are his weapons of choice.

Colossus - See Gambit.

;)William Drake is human. He has no powers. X-Baby Gambit has an accent, and threre's nothing wrong with having an accent. Do you dislike all people who have accents?

Least Favourite
1. Maggot – Interesting idea for a power, but the character didn’t grab me.
2. Cable – Big guns and nothing else. Indicative of the 90’s gun craze.
3. Gambit – Annoying character that was thrust on us as Kewl. Began to develop into an interesting character in X-Treme, then lost it in X-Men.
4. Makhail Rasputin - Awful story, boring villain, unneccessarily complicated
5. Danger – An unoriginal character/storyline. Almost made me drop Astonishing.

Hmmm...this is a tough one...
1) Dazzler-she was my avatar for the longest time for crying out loud. Love her goals, not trying ot make peace for everyone else, not trying to make the world special, and wasting her time, just trying to be normal, with the hand that was delt her. Dazzler the Movie graphic Novel.
2) Storm-If any of you read during the 80's(and many of you did) you'll understand what i'm talking about. As far as being a powerhouse, she led the team for nearly 50+ issues without powers, and those had to be some of the greatest stories claremont ever told. Uncanny X-Men 186
3) Psylocke(the british version) She was so spunky, and always trying to prove herself as a warrior, and not the frail lil thing that she was. Liked the asain version when Claremont was writing her, but quickly despised her when other writers got a hold of her. Uncanny X-Men 211-221.
4) Colossus/Nightcrawler Wolverine-The friendship these three created, I think is the ideal relationship everyone should have. Like when Colossus took on Juggy alone, and held his own, great stuff. Wolvie told him like it is, and you shouldn't hold back your feelings with men you feel close as family to. Uncanny X-Men 183, Uncanny X-Men 196, Wolverine Lmt. Series 1-4
5) Kitty/Illyana/Rachel(pre Phoenix)I just fell in love with these characters from day one. I loved how the undying trust and dichotomy between Kitty and the other two just resonated through them with every appearance. Uncanny X-Men 143, 168,196. New Mutants 15-20. Uncanny X-Men 184, 188-194, 196
Fave. Villians
1) Magneto-While not my favorite villian, my favorite gray character. When written right, then he can be soo much more. X-Men God Loves Man Kills graphic novel.
2) Shadow King-was soo much more than he let on, and could have been. New Mutants 29-34
3) Hellfire Club-Shinobi, Emma, Selene, Leland, Von Roehme, Tessa. The villains that i absolutely loved everything about them.Uncanny X-Men 129-134, 151-152, 189, 207-209
4) Sabretooth-loved his previous appearances, before he became a wolvie only character. Iron Fist 14(yes i have it), Uncanny X-Men 212-213, X-Factor 52-53, New Mutants 89-91 i believe, it could be 90-91.
5)Mystique-the ultimate baddest bit##. Never should have become anti-hero, she and Creed should stay villians for as long as they are "alive" Ms. Marvel 15-18, Uncanny X-Men 141-142, Avengers Annual 10, Uncanny X-Men 177-178, 199, 224-227
Least favorites:
Marrow
Maggot
Jubilee
Bishop
Cable-These characters we're pretty much all that became wrong with the X-Men.
l. f. v.
Stryfe
Upstarts
Omega Red
Exodus-these lame characters just reeked 90's excess and didn't do anything for me.
Apocolypse(other than Simonson, noone seems to get him right, except in AoA)
Bring Him Back
04-04-2006, 11:02 PM
1.Magneto (arguably comic's greatest villain...well him or doctor doom)
2.Iceman (love the potential would like to see a writer finally have him step up like Scott Lobdell was doing....AHEM hint hint Carey, otherwise i just like how he makes light of most situations)
3.Rogue (I want her to have Ms. Marvel powers, im not down for the human torch business)
4.Psylocke(please bring her back to the X-Men after her arc is done)
5.Cable(what more can i say...hes the damn Messiah)
dislike:
1.Cecilia Reyes(just wack)
2.Bastion(prick)
3.Maggot(so disappointed when i learned what his mutation was)
4.Toad(ugh)
5.Fabian Cortez(backstabber to Magneto...of course i hate him)
