Eminem is the Bendis of music. You know he's intelligent, you know he's funny and has a lot of potential. He's just gotta work a little harder and think real hard about every aspect of what he's doing to be truly great.
Not everybody is perfect from the start, but doesn't mean you can't work at it and become a better performer (or comic book writer).
Hey Buried, don't know if it makes sense, but I tried.

The Eagles have nice, tranquil melodies.
the Black Eyed Peas are very culturally diverse.
Actually, sans girlmember, The group is very good live. They opened up for De La Soul at my school a couple years ago (The Roots cancelled, and De La+Black Eyes took their place).
They're incredible live performers, great dancers/breakdancers.
Their songs are generally bland/horrible, but their live show...I'd pay to see them on purpose after having seen them on accident.

I think the best thing Phil Collins has done since he and Gabriel were together on Genesis (and even that I consider over-rated) was the episode of SOUTH PARK that he was on.

The only thing really wrong with the Doors was Jim Morrison. As individual musicians, they were fairly interesting (in a sludgy sort of way) and definitely influential.
i would sit through them monkeying around on stage to see De La. just think it's pretty funny how they went from being hailed as the next Native Tongue type crew when they first came out to "let's get it started"-ing...
Yeah...When Dilated Peoples and Jurassic 5 were just starting to make it big, the Black Eyed Peas was always mentioned along with them. But I never could feel those cats because they had no DJ. How are they going to play "old school" when the crew doesn't have a DJ?
They are great live, even with Fergie. They played with NERD a few months back, and they really hyped up the audience.
I was referring to the fact that she wasn't in the group when I saw them. I don't imagine she'd impede their show in any way.
Oh funny story: at all the school's concerts, there's guys screaming at the artists to come to their parties. The poor Black Eyed Peas thought that there was really going to be a serious afterparty (backstory: R.I.T. is famously rated as the second-to-last on a nationwide list of "party schools").
So I went to a lame party after the DeLa/BlackEyed show, and sure enough the group showed up. I was standing right next to one of them and I had to snort/laugh a couple of times...I mean I GO here, what's YOUR excuse?

I have to agree with you on that though I don't know if I find the instrumentals as interesting as you do, but it has been awhile since I listened to the first Doors album which I have since given to my brother. Definitely influential though.
However in the spirit of the thread...
...Morrison's lyrics did lead to many songwriters to push more at the boundaries of rock songwriting. (X, Phil Lynott, Ian Mulloch of Echo and the Bunnymen, Nick Cave, among others.) Moreover, his wild, confrontational, and theatrical performing style (and even his baritone voice), when not completely knock-down drunk, did influence many rock performers such as Nick Cave, Robert Plant, and most notably, Iggy Pop.

The story is that the band named themselves that when they saw the words "Joy Division" scrawled on an alley wall in France. When they found out what it meant, they considered it an appropriately ironic tag for their music, which, like Nazi prostitution-camps, has little to do with joy.

Say something nice about a musician you don't like that much??
Well ... that's easy ...
"Although I loathe everything about Kurt Cobain, I can honestly say that he did one good thing in his lifetime ... and that was having learned how to use a shotgun properly."
I feel better already. :D
not too nice.

Meh ... I stand by my statement. And for the record, I wasn't trying to be funny - I really do loathe anything associated with that idiot.
We know.
However, like Punchy said the "I'm not ACTUALLY going to say anything nice, because I hate (Musician X) sooooo much" wasn't funny the first twenty-seven times.
If you wanna bitch about Kurt Cobain, start a KURT KOBAIN = SUXOORRS! YARR! thread instead of, y'know, being a dumbass.

Marginal guitar player at best, interesting lyricist, fairly repetetive boring arranger, had a good sense of melody, and of a cool voice.
"Genius" is probably pushing it.

I don't think anyone is trying to censor your opinion. Like I said before if you start an anti-Nirvana thread, ain't nobody gonna care.
The point of *this* thread, the one we are ALL CURRENTLY POSTING IN, is, as I see it, is to prove that you have the critical intelligence to figure out why music that doesn't inately appeal to you *works*. It's an intellectual excersize, basically.
So if you're not capable of performing the intelectual excersize, you should post to another thread. Simple as that.

If I recall correctly, it was actually the record label suing the fans but Lars ulrich was the main speaker when he went after Napster.
The band did sue Napster before the other record labels initiated proceedings against the company. Metallica also compiled a list of users on Napster's server who were sharing their music and had Napster ban them from the service. That said, Lars' statements weren't made at a court case but to a Senate Judiciary Committee on copyright infringement.

Eric Clapton has shown real generosity in establishing the Crossroads Addiction Centre. He not only set it up against the advice of his accountant and helps raise funds for it through a music festival, but even auctioned off most of his guitar collection to help pay for it. And all with the goal of making sure that as many of the beds as possible go to poorer inhabitants of the Caribbean.

That's the thing that doesn't make sense to me is that lead singers aren't replaceable like (most)drummers.
actually some singers ARE replaceable if you look at some of tribute bands there are many singers that sound like the real deal from said group.
listen to ripper from judas priest he nailed robs voice. imo that is
eric singer has a voice close to peter criss but not as raspy.
when ac/dc were auditioning singers many came that sounded just like bon,
but that wasn't what they were looking for.
the thing with voice versus drums, guitar etc. is that each persons voice is unique in its own right ie: timbre, range, pitch etc. all that is very hard to replicate into sounding the same but it can be done.
with drums, guitars etc. it's practice and equipment though some are better than others on eachs instrument i think that practice is a major force in ability to play.
many say that eddie van halen was the first to use the finger tap technique
but if you litsen to or see a video of tommy bolin he was doing that back before he died in 1976 [though not exactly the same as eddie or as much]
the same goes with ace frehely back in 1974-1975 during his soles and that was before gene simmons heard or saw the early version of van halen daddy long legs.

.I agree with that part.
Although i don't think i have ever seen anyone be able to completely replicate Bonham's drum style maybe except his son.
