Looks like Mystery-Boot Boy appears on the cover for issue #6. For those that don't know, it was mentioned in interviews that the Legion would have between 18 to 20 members to begin with. Then on the final page of the preview in the TT/Legion special, 19 members were shown flying off, including Invisible Kid, who had just joined. But there was a set of brown boots shown in the foreground, signifying a twentieth member.

Guesses were made as to who the extra member might be and the debate was revived when a slightly obscured member of the Legion was shown on the cover of issue #5. It appears to be the same person on this cover, behind Dream Girl.

So who is he?

The field is narrowed somewhat as it has been mentioned several times that this Legions membership is based firmly in the Silver-Age membership.

Who do you think he is?

I'm not sure that he isn't Invisible Kid.

When I first saw this picture earlier today, I thought the same thing, "Who was this character?". Since Invisible Kid's uniform(or was it) was depicted on Issue 4's cover. Then their is that growing speculation from the Issue 5 cover. I know who I want it to be......but I dont think it is, even though the Brown jacket is somewhat familiar to Marval Lad's costume. I see that the theme of everyone in the future wears gloves is still happening on his uniform as well. Anyways I have no clue.........Like I still have no clue to who that was in the Issue 2, I guessed it was Nemisis Kid in Dream Girl's Dream.

Sure thing. :)

This is the last page from the preview:

http://mywebpage.netscape.com/Greybird007/legion/LegionPrvSplash.jpg

One set of boots at the top of the page belong to Ultra Boy...The others, presumably the guy we see on the cover to #6.

Then we had the cover to issue #5:

http://images.comicbookresources.com/solicits/dc042005/big/LegionOfSuperheroesCv5.jpg

The guy that appears half obscured behind Princess Projectra. They're both framed within the aliens leg and tail. A lot of speculation started that this was "Boot Boy", especially when Barry Kitson posted theis piece of art on his website and at Legion World:

http://www.legionworld.net/images/NewLegion/_5Backgroundpencils.jpg

Barry Kitson also mentioned that one of the faces, previously unseen, would play a prominent role in #5. It was more the fact that the guy was so prominent on the page, "grouped" with the other team members, that started the speculation.

That was my first thought as well. The red and brown colours. :D

I think that character will be someone new. I remember Waid saying it'll be all new villains for the first year or so.

It 's Invisible Kid, his wearing the same clothes he was wearing in issue 1. Well it better be, he looks and dresses just like him. We got the Ultra Boy and Colossal Boy twins and now we have these two. Its got to be Invisible Kid, they can't be that unoriginal. I'm guessing the events of issue four cause him to give up the costume?

Well we know Invisible Kid's on the team and this seems to be a pretty big shot of the whole team, why wouldn't he be in it?

I suppose they could just say "he's invisible."

Shrinking Voilet is missing too(Or Atom Girl), unless she is too small to be seen!

I thought Shrinking Violet wasn't going to be in this Legion at first? I just remember something about only having people with "girl," "boy," "lad," or "lass" at the end.

Shrinking Violet is Atom Girl. So far shes been shown 3 times. Once in the TT/Legion Special. Once behind Kitsons backgrouind in the cover to Issue #5, beside Micro Lad/Colossal Boy. And the last time her Silhouette on page 7 in Issue #2. Waid and Kitson has said that she is on the team, But her appearance will be something of a myth to the newer members on the team.

I see we are thinking alike. I would like to see the return of Legionnaire Lemon. That is wishful hoping on my part though.

I think bringing him in as Marvel Lad would be a great way to reintroduce Mon-El. With a big reveal later on down the track. :)

Other:

Barry said @ one point, that the 20th Legionniare was of the "Adventure" era, but hadn't been guessed yet. On the cover in question, we see Infectious Lass (not of the era), along with Gas Girl, and Kid Psycho. Both of them are the right era, but only Kid Psycho had actual Legion membership. At present, Brainy doesn't seem to have a force-field belt. Kid Psycho, if memory serves, projected force-fields, but at the cost of his own life. Perhaps that weakness will be preserved, and Brainy will learn what he needs to know from KP, to create his belt, after KP's death.

Of Timberwolf, Waid said that they were going to make sure they'd figured out exactly what made him tick before they re-introduced him. That doesn't sound like its going to be anytime soon.

Heh, well considering her size, she could be any number of dots in that pic. :)

Thought I'd bump this topic up as the mysterious 20th member is revealed in this weeks issue.

And I must confess that I got to read a preview copy last week so I know who it is. :)

I was mistaken about the character on the cover of #6. From what we saw in #4, it appears Invisible Kid doesn't don a costume yet. Plus the character introduced in #5 isn't actually a member of the Legion...He's just an "ally".
He is the person with the glowing eyes from issue #3, he was a member Pre-Threeboot, he appears on the cover to #5 and he is listed in the poll above.

Any more guesses? :)

I can't believe that Waid and Kitson are not using either Timber Wolf or Wild Fire in their LEGION  . They are not characters that are any harder to figure out than any of the other members of the LEGION. If this is really Waid's excuse, then he just does not like either character, which is fine. Is anybody enjoying Waid's LEGION, better than Abnett and Lanning's version? I am not(no Timber Wolf damnit :( ), and I think the LEGION needs Timber Wolf, to make it a better team.

Mark and Barry's Legion is far, far better than the DnA Legion. They're like day and night. The Abnett/Lanning Legion was a well-written superhero comic, but nothing more. These writers didn't have a strong purpose or vision that differentiated it from any other superhero comic. They used some characters way too much and others hardly ever, and some of their later issues were flat out boring. None of this is true of the current Legion.

Also, if the problems with Mark's Legion are as serious as you imply, then they won't solve those problems simply by reintroducing Timber Wolf.

I'm sure Timbor Wolf will be Re-Introduced at some point. He was an Important part of Legion history so odds are Waid will bring him back at some point.

The Legion now kicks ass. Its just 1 million miles away from what I have seen them In the last 2 relaunches. It made me a fan .

The only serious problem with Waid's LEGION is the absence of Timber Wolf ;) . That is the only problem for me.

Wildfire wasn't a member during the Adventure era. I'm sure he'll reappear, but the creative team just wanted to start with the "originals" first. At least there was a Wildfire towards the end of the Reboot....Imagine how the Dawnstar fans must feel. :)

One thing I can tell you is that there'll be some pieces of information dropped in this issue that will get the speculation flowing....And not just about the upcoming war, but about some of the characters as well.

You're in for one or two surprises. :D

Boots will end up being Rond Vidar and he'll probably end up having the powers of another previously seen Legionnaire. Kind of 2 for 1 there.

Just my mindless speculation.

Yeah, I'm missing Wildfire, Timber Wolf and Dawny too. Can't wait to see them again.

This version is really good. It's definitely one of my fav comics right now. Probably tied with JSA.

Not even close for me--DnA's version I enjoyed much more. But you can't even compare them yet. Waid's version has only run 5 issues, give it a few years and then we can judge...So far the sales speak for themselves...

And I wouldn't worry, we'll see Timber Wolf soon enough...(Wildfire and Dawnstar though--I'm not sure...)

If Timber Wolf is now a regular in Waid's LOS, then it just became my favorite comic book :D . But if he does not hang around, it moves back down to around my 10th favorite out of the 20 titles that I currently buy.

I agree. It makes him stand out from the other Legionnaires.

And he's just too cool to be a member. :)
