First of all hello to everyone on the boards I've enjoyed reading them for the past few weeks and thought I'de join in!

I've been away from the comics scene for about 12 years, I'de often thought about returning but to be honest when I visited my local comic shop I was baffled by the new titles and the new numbering system and the ultimate lines, well I just didn't know what the hell to make of it all.

Luckily fate interveined in the form of my lovely ladyfriend who bought me the Secret Wars TPB for xmas. This had been my favourite series from my old comic collecting days and after re-reading it, well I was hooked again. So now I'm looking for some advice. At the moment I'm just gonna collect trade TPB's so I can get rolling again. Can anyone recommend some good graphic novels or TPB's I can pick up.

Currently I'm considering buying: Captain Marvel Vol1/ peter david
New Age-X-men vol1
Excalibur vol1 forging the sword
witches
she-hulk single green female

Please let me know if their any good or make some recommendations (reasons for the recommend would be appreciated)

Also I want to get some TPB's or graphic novels with the following characters in as they are favourites from my previous comic collecting stint.
Vermin
Abomination
Juggernaut
Sabretooth
Archangel

I like the darker type of story, I enjoyed Venom vs Carnage and Maximum Carnage. I like the more evil darker , scarier villains so if you can recommend anything with regards to dark feocious villains that would be great too.

So there you go thats quite a list of requests and I'm hoping you guys can help me out.

Many thanks in advance :D

Well , Juggernaut has become a fish loving wimpy hero who got sucked into someone's head and currently MIA. (too confusing to explain) :D

Abomination - don't waste your time trying to read Bruce Jones Hulk garbage is all i can say. It's a relief to have PAD back as Hulk writer.

Recently , there is a mini series Identity disc mini series 1-5 which had Juggernaut & Sabretooth in it.

As you're already getting She-Hulk, I'll suggest picking up the existing Runaways trades/digests, and be sure to get the new Runaways series.

Can't go wrong with Alias, a good, dark character driven story with some nice bits of lightbess and humour. Hell, the lunch with Jess and Warbird is worth the tpb price alone!
edit- Ult Spidey is pretty consistently good, and you'll probably love the Ultimates v1&2.

I would add Exiles to your list. It is book about characters ripped from their own realities and forced to jump from one to the next changing things. Sort of like Quantum Leap with mutants. It features a team of 6 characters and if one dies or they just get sent back to their own reality another pops in to take their place.

Also get Supreme Powers. If you like the violent stuff then nothing beats the fight between Hyperion and Redstone. I think there are two trades out now collecting the current series. It is a little slow in some issues but well worth the payoff when it comes down. It is a new take on the old Squadron Supreme concept (which in itself is a take off the Justice League of America feom DC), but with a very real world feel to how things would be if super beings started showing up. Basicaly all it has in common with the old Squadron Supreme is the names.

She Hulk is great... but it isn't dark, its very much about fun.

Definitely get Runaways. Also, Spider-Girl is a great read with a classic feel. Hell, nowadays, you can't get much more classic that Tom DeFalco and Ron Frenz. Other than Claremont and the Kubert brothers, they're about the only creators who were established before the new regime moved in.

Runaways' a given....

The X-23 Mini is interesting....

And if you want to read something Classic from Marvel, then look no further than The NEW THUNDERBOLTS Series... ;)
